Farmers markets used to be the life blood of America, now overlooked in the hustle and bustle of a…read moresociety that focuses on a more rambunctious lifestyle. The old phrase "take your shoes off and stay a while" has never been more appropriate for the atmosphere of these gatherings. Lampasas County Farmer's Market & Crafts located in Lampasas, a quaint little area with shops centered around what appears to be a government facility. It's relatively easy to find and in a safe section of town. I haven't been to a farmers market in years and now thanks to this event my passion has been rekindled and I want to frequent more of them. Pulling the focus back to Lampasas Farmers Market, after parking I got out my car and immediately my nostrils were hit with a hit of BBQ, courtesy of "End of the Trails BBQ." Since my cravings needed to immediately be satisfied my girlfriend and I made a beeline to the food truck. Fair warning, I don't indulge in big breakfasts but lord have mercy what I got among their assortment of items was outstanding. The brisket, egg and cheese breakfast burrito brought a tear to my eye. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the smoke from the meat filled the whole burrito while the meat was succulent and the cheese brought it all together in a warm and soft tortilla. Next time I go, I'm ordering a "truck load" pardon the pun. Just to note they have all kinds of meats and other filling food offerings so I highly advise making this a priority. Walking around in a dog friendly atmosphere there are tons of shops to check out. Homemade necklaces, 3D printed items like dragons, video game characters and what not, you name it. I believe there's something for everyone here. I saw some professionally made and multiwood cutting boards which I seriously considered for some time. Alas, ole "Betsy" my current cutting board is still going strong so I can't replace her while she's still in her prime. Another temptation I pondered was some fresh produce including huge purple potatoes. Being a former chef, I thought it would look outstanding in a scalloped potato dish. Alas I rebuked my desires even though all the crops available looked outstanding and I'm guessing GMO free! Something we all should consider in this day where all of our food is being negatively manipulated to our bodies demise. Turning the corner I ordered a fresh batch of mini-donuts. I asked the sweet lady what she recommended and she said the cinnamon sugar donuts. They were warm, fluffy and the perfect kick of sugar and spice. I debated this because it's been ages since I had an elephant ear (funnel cake) and it would have been perfect. Alas my choice was equally good. I highly recommend getting these little devils as the bite sized morsels will make you feel like an angel. The next stand I got some pepper jelly, jalapeno & strawberry jam and apple butter. I haven't tried them yet but they look outstanding and I'm supporting these hard-working families in the meantime. My final purchase came from a German pasta stand. Doing my best to converse in German I quickly opted for English as to limit my embarrassment, I found it curious they didn't sell spätzle which is a German potato pasta. That said I got some home-made egg noodles which I'm dying to try. The prices were extremely fair and I can't wait to sample the product. They have a lot of pasta options as well as fragrant breads so if you're in the mood, drop on by. Overall I loved the small-town vibe and offerings from Lampasas County Farmer's Market & Crafts. The place is safe and easy to find. The sellers and patrons are good people and the whole time I felt I was among family. If you're looking for great food, farm to table produce, fun crafts or anything in between I invite you to spend a few hours wondering about. You'll support local families and might make a few memories in the process.

I wrestled with whether or not to post this for a long time now. After much internal debate, I have…read moredecided to do so. Especially after seeing what she posted the day before, day of, and day after my wedding. I went there 4 months before my wedding to see if Mel could help me with my wedding cake. I was going to do the other desserts myself, but wanted someone to do the cake for me. I was trying to keep it local. She offered to do all of my desserts for a very reasonable price so I accepted. I sent pictures of what I wanted and she agreed she could do it all. There were 4 desserts plus a very small cake. I will try to keep this short. She told me that the macaroons I had requested would be something she was adding to the display case for spring and I could come in and try them once she had them in there. I called twice, messaged several times, and even went in to check and see if they were there when she told me they would be, they never were. I had to threaten to cancel to get some samples two weeks before my wedding. She always had a "reason" why they weren't done. I got the sample, finally, but they were literally just made, so I wasn't able to see exactly how the macaroons would set up. Regrettably, I agreed to stay with her because she was local and I know she was trying to build her business. Day of the wedding she brings everything in and I was luckily not there at the moment. My husband called me and told me to be prepared because I was not going to be happy. Now mind you, I had an outdoor wedding planned that due to weather, we had to change the venue 2 days before, so things were hectic to say the least. I arrived at the venue and was definitely shocked. - Chocolate dipped ice cream cones with fresh fruit were packed and ready but had to be assembled by the family helping me with food. The fruit was not at all what I asked for. You can see in the picture that I sent what I wanted. I got cantaloupe, watermelon, and honey dew with some strawberries. -Cupcake, gummy bear Champagne flutes. Quantity was correct. Cupcakes were not the right color and did not have the right frosting at all! Wrong colors for both. -Macaroons. Right color for the cookie, wrong color centers. The center was supposed to be the same color as the cookie. I ordered 24, two packs. I got 24, one packs. -Fruity pebble crispy treats were actually made correctly with the correct quantity. -The cake. What a disaster. I asked for something so simple. 8" round, as short as possible, internal rainbow layered cake, with naked white frosting. No one was going to eat it, we were just going to cut a piece out of it and then put it away to save. No other decorations because I was going to put fresh flowers on it. The cake was 8" round, but about a foot tall, the inside was rainbow layered, but it was a standard round sheet cake for each layer. The frosting, not naked and not smooth in anyway shape or form. The cake was lopsided and looked like it was going to fall over. She told me she had a family emergency and that's why things were not correct. But I see that the day before, the day of, and day after she was posting all kinds of crap and doing all kinds of other things. There are no pictures on her site of what she did, because it was embarrassing. I don't even have any pictures because I asked my photographer not to take pictures of the table. He even blurred out the cake when we cut it. I included a pic of what I asked for on the cake and a semi blurred picture of what it looked like. (Sorry) To be honest, if it wasn't for the beautiful fresh flowers, that out florist gave me for the cake, hiding the major issues, we would have opted out of the cake cutting all together. She offered to give me some money back, but I was angry at her that I couldn't even deal ok with talking to her. I'm sure this may make some people mad, but I'm just being honest. First pic is what I asked for (minus strawberries) second pic is what I got with a cut taken out of it. I don't have any other pics sorry.
