Department of Labor & Industry

I have been forced to deal with these people regarding my social security disability claim denial…read moreand appeal. These people are every bit as worthless as the people in the Carlisle social security office. I received 4 thick packets of papers to fill out and I received them on a Friday and they required the information back in 2 days. Yes 2 days to fill out an encyclopedia of information. Then a few weeks later I received a letter from labor and industry telling me to call them within 2 days and failure to do so would result in a negative outcome for my case. After calling these assholes for 3 days straight and getting nothing but voicemail, they are still refusing to return any of my phone calls. This process is a joke. They need to come up with a better system than this because this is unacceptable. This entire social security process is unacceptable. I've been dealing with these people for over 5 years and it's just been nothing but headaches. It's obvious that none of the people involved in this social security benefits process gives a fuck about disabled citizens in this country. Maybe if the government would worry about it's own citizens for once instead of people in other countries they would fix this BROKEN SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM!

I'm going to give this review as a throwback discussion from long ago of what happened to me when I…read morecalled because my former boss was mentally abusive, racist, our paychecks were several days late on a regular basis (while his nutter boomer wife blew thousands on shopping sprees), we got no breaks for food, were not paid overtime, our payroll deductions were not listed on our paychecks, etc. BTW, this was a DOCTOR I worked for who was born into a millionaire family, so it's not like he was hurting. When I called the Department of Labor, hoping they would have some insight on how to handle this situation as professionally as possible, the rep who took my call couldn't have been less sympathetic. He seemed rather annoyed that I would dare to bother him over a job where my boss did the "Heil Hitler" thing every time I came to work simply because my family was of German descent and noted that my brother's name "sounded like an SS officer." Then there were the regular phone calls from his psycho wife who hated me because I was naturally thin and used to rip me to shreds on a regular basis. I recall cleaning the office after patients were gone on a long night working until 10PM (we were never paid a penny for overtime, btw, but we were hourly workers) and I was exhausted and my ponytail a bit disheveled. She looked at me and said, "Fix yourself up." I thought, "If you didn't have maids cleaning for you, you'd know what it's like to clean an entire office and two bathrooms and why you don't look like a supermodel afterward." I once got poked with a cautery needle because the doctor was negligent and didn't follow protocol (this was at the height of the AIDS panic era) and he was so friggin' insensitive about it and tried to deny it happened even though he SAW the needle hanging from my arm. I was in my 20s and thought,"OMG. My life is over." It was terrifying. What did the doctor do? He lied on the report he created and said the "needle didn't penetrate the skin." I refused to sign the report until he told the truth on it. He was only trying to save his a$$, but karma got him later when he did the same stupid thing with the needle in surgery and, this time, poked HIMSELF...on his birthday. He was so hysterical when it happened, we had to cancel all his patients and remaining surgeries for the rest of the day. But when it happened to me he didn't have an ounce of sympathy or consideration. There was even an R.N. working there who was unlicensed and when the Office Manager and I accidentally discovered it and tried to warn the doctor so he didn't have a lawsuit (patients were getting infections, etc. because she didn't follow sterile technique properly) and could ask her to get the license issue taken care of, the doctor got angry with US and sided with the nurse (whom I suspect was a little more than an employee) who had been given a week when she first was hired to take her tests and get her license taken care of and we all thought she did, but the doctor never checked. There was a lot more that went on and it was pure hell - the worst job I ever had. So when I explained to the Dept. of Labor rep that we didn't get breaks and we didn't get overtime, he cut in with stock questions, "Are you an expectant mother? Are you under the age of 18?" I replied, "No" to each. He said, "Then there are no 'laws' protecting you." And he said it in a "Be grateful you have a job and shut the f - up" tone. He went on, "The overtime issue is something we MIGHT be able to intervene on, but I'd need proof so we could investigate." I said, "I work in an office with four workers and I'm the only one who is living off one paycheck. The others are all married and this check is spending money to them. They're going to know I'm the one who reported it because I'm the only one who really needs that money. Besides, we don't punch a clock. I have no way of proving all the hours I put in." Those hours, btw, were frequently from 8AM to 10PM, no breaks. We didn't get healthcare insurance either. I paid in full out of pocket and the doctor selected my plan and removed it from my paycheck. I never saw the deduction, just got a paycheck with my reduced amount - no itemization of payroll deductions at all. How can that be legal? Anyway, the rep replied, "Well if there's no proof, then we can't help you." So I ask the Department, why isn't is LAW that the owner of these companies have to have a timeclock and to show payroll deductions? Why aren't you enforcing that. I have lived in three other states since (thankfully got the H-ll out of PA) and all of them had more labor laws to protect workers than you do.
