If you have to take a test, be there before 3:30 in order to ensure you get to take the test. if you're retaking the test go there a little before 4 and they'll let you cut in line. if you're going to do any other things other then driving test, go there right after 4 and the wait is a matter of minutes.

Unfortunately, our recent experience registering a used vehicle purchased from a private party was so frustrating that none of us will be returning. We followed the instructions given to us, received a checklist, and even called ahead to confirm we had everything needed and whether the seller needed to be present. We were assured we were prepared, only to arrive after spending hours driving around gathering paperwork and be told we were missing a required form. When we questioned why we hadn't been told about it, there was no concern or willingness to help resolve the situation. We returned the following morning with the seller, as instructed, only to be told that the seller's wife also had to be present to sign. This was directly contrary to what we had repeatedly been told. All of us were left stunned by the conflicting information, the employee's attitude, and the complete lack of an apology or accountability. We understand that paperwork requirements can be complicated, but customers should be able to rely on the information provided by the people handling their transactions. A little courtesy, accurate instructions, and taking responsibility for mistakes would have made a world of difference. It's especially disappointing to walk away from a business we've trusted for years feeling this way. They've lost not only our business but also the seller's.

Now I showed up at the end of the month (poor planning)...i got there 10 minutes before they opened and there was already a queue of about 30 folks. I waited about 45 minutes before my number was called. I showed up to get my first OR license, having been a Washingtonian these last 62 years....I brought the recommended paperwork with me (mail with my name and new address) and my WA DL. Now the DMV website tells you that you have to take the written test, so I had even studied up, and was crestfallen when I was told that they'd rescinded this requirement, perhaps temporarily. Passed the vision test, approved the use of my sorry organs in case i get whacked, and got my pic taken and paid the fee. Great. Bonus was that my WA motorcycle endorsement transferred with no question or fuss. Oh, and they are VERY quick to point out that if you have a valid US Passport, you dont have to fiddle with the new improved ID. Good job DMV. But next time maybe I'll avoid end of month :)

It started off as most visits do - no appointment, take a number. 87 and on 83, not bad for a Thursday afternoon. The employees at the windows were friendly, helpful, patient and yes, smiling & joking. Then there was the person at the front - acted like an office manager as she kept things moving along and when she knew why I was there (registration renewal that was late), she said no need to wait and that she'd help me. What?! I had only been there 10 minutes and was 2 numbers away. Talk about service!! I told her I didn't have my paperwork and my registration had expired (was driving by and just stopped in). She asked when, I told her the 20th and with a smile and laugh she said " it's still April so no worries"! I told her I really appreciated how she was keeping things moving along and what a good mood everyone was in. We both agreed life is too short not to enjoy what we do and to treat others with kindness and respect. Without an appointment, I was in and out within 20 minutes. First sunny warm day in awhile might have helped lift the mood but after years of avoiding the DMV, if needed, I won't hesitate coming back to this location.

Our particular room was conveniently located on the first floor. We walked in to find an attendant at a desk to help answer any of our questions. She helped us navigate our way through the application process and then the submitting process. We submitted our paperwork and paid at a window. My only complaint is that there was about 9 windows and one attendant. Like, do they ever have nine people working there in the windows.... Just a thought.

Co, BTW), the gentleman working window 8, whose name I have shamefully failed to note, was friendly, patient, and helpful, answer questions and ensuring that all forms were filled out properly, and all fees and required documents clearly specified. What could have been a painful, confusing process was mitigated by his professional attitude, knowledge, and patience. Many, many thanks to this gentleman!
