This may be the smallest library I've ever had the pleasure of visiting, but what it lacks in size…read moreit makes up for in serious heart and some of the most amazing librarians I have ever met. Permit me (what I intend to be) a short story: I moved to Woodland at the beginning of 2008 and the library was the only place I could think of that might supply me with a reliable internet connection. So I started spending at least a small part of every day there, making use of their internet and also feeling completely welcome, by one librarian in particular. Linda is rad, folks. She is a no-nonsense lady, but more importantly she is funny and kind and thoughtful and patient. She and Diana and Abbie (and now Blake) make the Woodland Community Library such a wonderful place. They are all exceptional at what they do. The only frustration I find is not with the Woodland Library itself but with the library system they are a part of. I also understand that it's been a rough year for everyone -- libraries included. Library hours are a little inconvenient and the limit of one hour of internet per day is sometimes frustrating as well (for those of us not so fortunate to have a high-speed connection at home). But there are always extra activities going on at this little library. Two different book groups, a few reading groups/activity times for toddlers and a number of fun activities for teenagers -- all owed to Abbie, the fearless librarian who organizes as many extra activities as her schedule will allow.

The film starred veteran actress (mom to Carrie Fisher) Debbie Reynolds and Kimberly J. Brown. Filming locations, were of course in St. Helens and Scappoose, Washington. This film spawned 2 more sequels after. Around the courthouse, within this small town, are other landmarks and historical buildings and sites as well, so explore. This town celebrates Halloween the entire month once October starts until its very last day. Having activities, live music, food and sometimes the cast from the film drop by (but that's rare I think now) and crazy costumes are also welcomed, so be wild.

They are all inter related and the Judges , City Police , County Police , and court employee's will do their best to cause you a problem if you go against one of their BUDDIES. Trust me I know. I moved back there after leaving as a youngster and they haven't changed at all in their small town mentality. I'm not saying their all bad, but do your research of who you are moving by before you relocate there. And DO NOT try to stand your GROUND against any who is a friend or relative of Judge Ted E. Grove, cause he'll make it his job to make you pay for messing with one of his. Of coarse this is just the opinion of a OLD 67 year male who became a JAIL BIRD after moving back the after 50 years while trying to protect himself from physical harm the harassment of his neighbors. And instead got more from their buddies at the Courthouse, Sheriffs Department, and City Police who were their friends. And lol the people who I was trying to protect myself from even bragged in Court to the fact that THEY were friends with the Columbia County Sheriffs And after the treatment I received in my 30 day stay in jail I believe that to be VERY true. AND do NOT expect any true LEGAL help once they start with YOU. Well just my opinion, but I'm usually pretty right on about folks. LOL My Dad owned a business there a long time ago and he taught me well about these SMALL TOWN FOLKS. So BEWARE!! Check the neighbors out before you relocate there and do your do research well, it may not be the DEAL you want. OH and I met a lot of young fellas there that got involved with the local gals there and guess where that got them LOL in jail.

We've been involved with Shoestring for 2 years now and are very thankful to have a local community…read moretheater group. My oldest daughter was in The Sound of Music the summer before last and both my daughters were in Willy Wonka this past summer. What a great local resource that, for some unknown reason took me too long to discover after moving here 6 years ago! I've met some really nice and talented people from the local community and beyond. Shoestring doesn't have it's own facility so it can be a bit costly to put on performances, but they do a nice job at the St. Helens HS and, more recently, at the new Scappoose HS auditorium. I recently volunteered and was elected to serve as the Secretary on the Board and am hoping to see some more community support for this group and the arts in this community in general so I don't have to always go to Portland to scratch that itch. While my talents don't lie in acting, dancing, doing anything backstage, etc, I love watching! Through my kids' involvement with Shoestring, I also found that I enjoy taking tickets and manning concessions, probably because I enjoy meeting and talking to people. We are lucky to have this in our area!

Formed from a dedicated group of "Reader's Theater" performers, SSCP was officially founded in 1982. The first production was Brigadoon, performed at the St. Helens High School Olmscheid Auditorium. SSCP has consistently produced productions and performances since that time, tapping into the rich and "undiscovered" talent Columbia County and its surrounding areas have to offer. We perform Revues, Musicals, Dramas, Comedies, Children's Theater, and any other type of production that captures the attention of the community.
