I have been to a few TKD schools as a viewing guest. I trained at Keller's. The reason in my mind…read morethat Keller's are the best for me to learn through is because they don't skimp. Their goal is to make everyone the best they can be. I'm going to tell you right now, don't learn a martial art if you don't want to do the work. Senior Master Keller has been an enormous influential teacher in the martial arts community for a long time. He has created the entire program you will learn with move combinations that are more dynamic than the common set of steps, kicks and strikes. I also appreciate that you won't learn harder skills until you have learned the basics. Fun things they include for you as a member of their schools. They have potluck belt ceremonies, tournaments, game nights, and they are always thinking of more events that bring the community together. Now let's see some skills those kids have learned. Here are a few pictures I have taken of their moves.

Use caution when signing your kids up. They called and said that our child can do a 30 day trial…read moreperiod with no fee besides a $1 enrollment- but in fact this is not a free 30 days or a free trial. They just don't bill you for the first 30 days. It's very confusing on how they word this so pay attention and make sure you have it in writing. The contract is long and wordy but they make you believe you get a trial period when in fact they are planning on charging almost $200 for the month the moment you start. They also say they will take ages 3+. There is a reason no other martial arts classes will take these ages. The kids are just too young and not able to focus. The classes were the same thing every day just in different order so my child never really learned anything other than to say "yes sir". When I emailed their billing office I was denied my free trial and was charged the $190 for the "free trial". They also sent a rude email with that. Please see the screenshot of the email below. In response to the email, "master keller" was not present when the pricing was explained because per his wife that did explain it "he just doesn't do the billing/registration". This is something that needs to be more clear because it comes off as a scam.

We loved going here in 2024-2025 for my then 5yo. Coach Darren is great, easy to talk to but I…read moreagree to one review he needs assistant coaches especially for the smaller kids class. Planning to go back here if there's a drop in fees since charter funds were halted last year due to stricter state rules. I'll visit again. Ty coach!

Update: Darren did reach out and his sincerity was felt. I…read morecan tell coach Darren is a great coach but doesn't have enough of him to go around. I hope he finds another coach as passionate as him who can help assist him in his class so it can shine to its brightest. ----------------- We wanted our daughter (6 years old) to start doing a self defense class and was recommended jujitsu. We were trying places out that were under our charter. We called this place and left a message as it says to do. Coach Darren called us back a couple days later and was very kind and accommodating. We came into his class and he was kind enough to loan us a pink GI :). Upon starting the class it was similar as the last one we tried out the week prior ( my daughter loved the last class we tried out at Cassio Jujitsu in Carmichael but we found out they do not accept our school funds so we tried this place). There was probably 14 kids in this class maybe a few more. There was only 1 Darren. They began to do drills like "knee to the gut" which my daughter was paired with a similarly sized kid but much more advanced and I watched as they were supposed to be only doing 6 to each other but my daughters pal did 19 I counted. My daughter had a brave face but I would see she was uncomfortable. I should have stood up and said something because that's my job and I will next time something like this happens. Darren was to busy to be sure the new kids in his class where being treated properly. She was complaining of her belly pain and they moved on to shoving each other down. He didn't explain how to properly fall before he paired my daughter with a boy similar size but he pushed her so hard in the stomach. She began to cry and pushed him back. Coach finally took noticed and told her to go get water and calm down. She drank one drink and puked in my hands. I can tell he is an excellent coach and I understand this might be the nature of martial arts but the other place did a much better job and had two coaches to keep an eye on each child match to be sure each child knew what was being taught. I felt like she was met with a sink or swim coach. I felt like his class was to big for him to properly monitor the class. And I fell dropped as he never checked in on us or even helped us understand how to help my daughter to either learn the techniques or help us know what we should have done. I hope when he reads this and when anyone reads this it is to understand my situation and not to say anything bad on Darrin. The other parents in that class seemed to really love that class and love Darrin's approach. I can tell coach Darrin is a great coach but I do think he dropped the ball with our kid and unfortunately she is terrified to ever go back.

I am writing this review with concern. I had my child with Family Taekwondo Plus for 3 1/2 years,…read moremy child became. 2nd degree blk belt, 1st degree blk belt in weapons and loved to teach lower level student. She was always told that she was one of the top student, little did I know that she was feeling very overwhelmed to the point that she would feel sick every time she would enter the parking lot, she kept this to herself because she did not want to disappoint us. recently she let us know that she was being light by the owner and in front of the whole blk belt class that she was no longer top leader. Family Teakwondo Plus is not the place or the people we thought they were, my child heard from another student that the owners were saying thing behind her back, this caused more stress, when I went to ask them about this, the owner was not going to gave it and turned it back on to the child, I was so beside myself that I stated maybe she should not teach so many classes for this dojo the owner said that's probably best. ever since this meeting , my child has been ignored and treated like she was worth nothing. my child decided that she did not deserve to be treated with such disrespect and chose to leave. There is so much more to this story but shared just a little. bottom line they will treat you with open arms at firs, take advantage of of you later & disrespect you if you bring anything to there attention if you dot like something they are doing!!! Don't waste your mone, they pass students to the next level even when they are not ready, the staff is so low that it's students teaching students and some getting paid under the table for pennies ( child labor law) It's all about the money and not the true teaching of Taekwondo, I do have to say 3 years ago it was a good place to be, now, not so. much and I 100% can't recommend them. only if the UTWA really knew what really is going on. FYI a lot of other students have also left. That's it, that's my rant!

Our 4yr old son started learning BJJ from Chuy and his love for grappling has grown since. They're truly the best of friends - and it's important to build this relationship with your Professor. At this age, it's far more important that the kids develop a love for learning - and the short live rolls keep the kids engaged and motivated to get better. And developing a pretty complex back-taking technique and rear naked choke submission at this age is pretty remarkable! Our 8-yr old son who has been a BJJ competitor for almost two years loves working with both Chuy and his son Robert as well as all the other coaches at LJJA. They've helped him to fuse and evolve his grappling with his wrestling - something that is challenging to integrate especially at this age because of the two conflicting rule sets.
