The info is not just limited to Wichita Falls. There was stuff for as far away as Port Aransas and Padre Island - a solid 8 hour drive! In addition to the brochures, maps, coupon books and pamphlets, the center had an amazingly clean restroom that was much appreciated as the coffee from earlier decided it was time to go. It turns out that the City of Wichita Falls got duped by a charlatan. They thought they were getting a 480 foot tall building but instead got this one that is only 480 inches. And for our metric friends, they thought they were getting a 146 meter tall building but instead got this one that is only 12 meters. Technically named the McMahon Building, it is built from red brick. When the shop at the ground level is open, you can climb the stairs to the top. They sell some Shortest Skyscraper souvenirs and some other home decor items in their antique shop. The building is at the corner of La Salle and 7th Street. You can't miss it. When I first went to Meridian, Mississippi I found they had the fantastic Dentzel Carousel, and beautifully painted life-sized carousel horses which were scattered around town as a fundraising venture for "Hope Village" for children. Tracking down the carousel horses made for a fantastic adventure. This adventure started a trend for me. Now I look for this same type of art project in all of the towns I travel to. Here in Wichita Falls there are Painted Mustangs scattered all over town. These beautiful pieces of art were part of a project called The Mane Event. I found quite a few, but I know I've missed a lot of them. I've posted some of these photos here.
