Dr. Keith Ablow, was my doctor beginning in July of 2016 - April 2017 after I was in a car accident. Dr. Ablow was aware that I had a traumatic brain injury and depression, His course of action to treat my traumatic brain injury and depression was ketamine, ketamine spray, a cocktail of medications which were contraindicated for TBI, expensive stays at his airbnb, which he calls a retreat, " psychotherapy" and when it was an inconvenience to him, he would illegally hospitalize me under Mass state section 12 law. During this time as his patient, he showed me his personal gun and where he would keep it during the day unsecured, he would make inappropriate comments, tell me about his personal problems, such as having his personal psychiatrist show up at his home with a " chocolate mushroom ". He told me about his daughter texting him from college a picture of her flask with their last name carved in it. Part of my $550.00 an hour sessions were about Dr. Ablow telling me that his mother had borderline personality disorder and when he went to dinner with his father, he would say that he allowed him to be alive. This is only a small piece of what my therapy was like. At no time did Dr. Ablow ever refer me to other medical professionals like vestibular therapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists, neuropsychologist for care of my TBI. Instead, in January of 2017 he had a friend of his who owns a 3D MRI Imaging company, do a follow up MRI, which revealed a clotted brain bleed. After getting those results in February of 2017, he raised all my medications, which were contraindicated for TBI and wrote this note, which was very revealing to a arbitration judge for the insurance company involved in my accident. Unfortunately, I am unable to copy and paste the letter at this time, but will post an updated review with the letter. The letter indicates that he is aware that I had TBI, he sent me for imaging of the brain and he recommends his airbnb, " retreat, psychotherapy and ketamine as treatment of the TBI. I now know that the course of treatment was more for a financial gain than to help me, because learning more about TBI and how to treat it after getting off his cocktail of medications and away from what I feel was septic treatment, the proper treatment would have been to see a neurologist, go for concussion care and neurological testing, none of which he ever recommended. Dr. Ablow was often late, on his phone when we were in sessions texting with other people. He told me about other patients. When I received my medical records from Dr. Ablow, other patients records were contained within the medical record. Dr. Ablow knew my husband and I could not afford to see him, but he was so convincing with his sales pitch, that my husband paid his astronomical fees, which he at one point, tried to get from our insurance company through the letter to the judge via us. My husband paid an estimated $80,000.00 and more. The end result, Keith Ablow, MD did not treat my traumatic brain injury, what he did was make my recovery for the brain injury much longer, and milk my husband for every penny he could, until he couldn't get anymore. When that happened, he abruptly stopped my therapy, no discharge plan, I had no follow up doctor to go to, with all the cocktail of medications, which he was prescribing at higher than normal doses. For example, Lorazepam 1mg twice a day and Klonipin 2mg 3x a day. So he stopped all treatment, two weeks prior to my wedding day. In July of 2017 I went to Dr. Navvaro his partner at Sea Coast Medical for ketamine treatment. Dr. Ablow had my treatment abruptly stopped once again. He had his secretary call my husband and tell him that I could not finish my course of treatment there. There is much more to my experience with Keith Ablow, MD, but I will leave it at that for now. I can only find it fitting to start such a review with a quote by Melanie Koulouris, "Healers are spiritual warriors who have found the courage to defeat the darkness of their souls. Awakening and rising from the depths of their deepest fears, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes. Reborn with a wisdom and strength that creates a light that shines bright enough to help, encourage, and inspire others out of their own darkness." I became an official patient of Dr. Ablow in April 2010 during my own darkness and after many years of being in my own black hole. There were many times, and still are when I hardly said a word to the man. Yet, out of anyone I ever encountered, he has heard the most, even the unspoken things. Like any chronic mood disorder, a diagnosis does not go away and so there will be ups and downs, but that is one thing he tolerates when the rest of everyone else around you doesn't quite understand, yet, or never will. He has patience that is unlike any other, much more so than myself! And he has humor, which is something this world needs more of, especially when the monsters of despair are grasping and won't let go! Like a woman wrote before, I too, was able to bring my dog to his office. Many times unannounced, but he didn't seem bothered with it. And when that dog, who was the best friend had passed away, the first person to make sure I was okay was Dr. Ablow. There are too many things to put on a silly review to properly emphasize the scope of who he is as a psychiatrist, a healer, a medical professional who relentlessly will figure out anything and everything to make a patient feel better, a generous man who has helped me when I had no money at all, to an example of just the kind of person we should all strive to be- giving, kind and working to better one another. I think it dawned on me just how different and caring he was when one winter, 2012 I came up during a blizzard. And I was not prepared for cold weather, much less any snow. When I arrived, and who once to mess up such a pristine office, but he didn't care! Instead, he took a towel and cleaned off my flat shoes, as though he were the servant. And I never looked at him the same way, again. Yes, there are many awful reviews on here. And I disagree with the majority, well all the negative ones, though I am sorry anyone is in pain. I know pain, very well. But, I thank God he put me in the path of Dr. Ablow. Otherwise, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt, I would not be alive today. Any achievement, any good quality, generous contribution, to anything I am working towards is because of the quality of physician located on the North Shore of MA who single handily saved my life, on more than one occasion. So, get mad at staff if you wish (though this isn't the forum and it's really only one- Amber, Jackie the angel and now Vanessa were and are the greatest and kindest people around), air your dirty laundry, etc. But you will never know, nor will Dr. Ablow know just how many and how far his influence and healing help has reached. I have been a patient of Dr. Ablow's for over 19 years. He has been nothing but professional and he talked with me always in a caring way. Over the years he has listened attentively to my issues and suggested several ways of resolving the issues at hand depending upon my desire. These meetings were always productive in providing me resolution. Dr. Ablow supported me through some horrific events which I encountered and provided me with options to assist. He is fabulous in being able to compartmentalize issues and provide solutions when you feel there are none. The only time Dr. Ablow prescribed medication to me was when I requested it. I have been on and off medications for many years, when I have told him I was feeling better, he didn't continue with refills, but instructed me how to safely separate myself from the medication. My primary care physician doesn't have any idea of my medications and I am able to have them refilled without question. Dr. Ablow would not allow a refill without a brief 15 minute discussion as to whether the medication were still needed. He truly cares for his patients and their well being. I have been so impressed over the years, that I have shared my experience with others, some of whom may have contacted Dr. Ablow. I would highly recommend Dr. Ablow to anyone needing a caring, compassionate, experienced and professional Doctor. read more

I began seeing Dr. Ablow years ago, and based upon the reviews before mine, he was entirely different than. He was NOT $550 an hour, he was $375. I found him to be kind, gentle, and extremely caring and thorough. I did notice like nearly everyone else has said that he would constantly be checking his emails and text during sessions. I felt that was extremely rude. He'd look up after a few minutes and ask me to repeat myself and I'd feel outraged. But I kept seeing him. I tried a number of different medicines while under the care of Dr. Ablow, some that worked, some didn't. And when I noticed right away that something didn't work, he let me stop it. I always appreciated that about him, that he at least listened to me when I felt it was a bad choice. But he did push meds as I never wanted them in the first place. And eventually he pushed his new product- ketamine which was $750 an IV and they demanded you take 6. And eventually he tried to push TMS. That's when I realized a pattern. Over the years, his quality of care declined. He became less of a caring psychiatrist and more of someone who wanted to push his latest on his patients. I had no interest in learning about his inventions of SeatPets or wanting to watch the video commercials, I was there to be in therapy. I could have cared less of his other random inventions or that he was opening and invention company. I was there to get better. He got to be a bully. And when his rates went up, even for those of us who were there with him at the beginning, he became a terror overnight. Like the girl before me wrote about being Section 12 and his line about keeping his home, I heard that line so many times. And I was never a danger to him! That is something he says to make himself feel better about his decision and to separate himself from a patient he has hospitalized. Because God forbid he would actually check up on the patient while they were in the hospital. But when he forced me into Anna Jacques Hospital, I had a whole team of nurses, therapists, and doctors pressuring me to report him. I was so confused I didn't know what to do. His help was always VERY nice. They took the brunt of having to cancel his appointments when he needed to be on TV, or when he was going to be late and never apologized for it. First there was the girl who seemed to care more about getting him on TV than his actual practice, Amber, but she couldn't have been sweeter. Then there was Jackie, such a kind soul. It's such an awful shame he lost her because she made that practice and quite frankly, she kept him in line! After her, it all went to waste. I, too, agree with the assessment of Kelsey Correia, a secretary who thinks she is a doctor, or pretends to be. She has a horrible attitude, lacks any customer service skills, and I think that was the downfall of my going back to Dr. Ablow. I also was overcharged, with no remorse coming from an inexperienced secretary. Appointments were also messed up, with no apologies for wasting my time. He was a caring man, one I admired and didn't mind spending the money on. But I had no choice but to go elsewhere because the quality of care became a lack of care and a charade of games. He is dangerous and downright deceitful. And it was very disappointing to finally come to that realization. Do yourself a favor- RUN FROM THIS DOCTOR! NO good. An expert in psychiatriy, having studied at Johns Hopkins, and completed residency at Tufts. A best-selling, NY Times author, as well as a contributor to psychiatry and health on Fox News. Credentials are excellent, but they aren't everything. Nearly $600 for a 50 minute meeting. Late. Arrogant and cocky. Sits and types, what I assume are e-mails, and checks phone/sends texts while you are at appointment. Unacceptable for a professional, and especially unacceptable when spending that amount of money, think you are getting "quality care". Pushes medicines on you, and in particular, his latest business venture, Ketamine Infusions, which have not been evaluated by the FDA, and also around $650 per infusion, and recommendation is six, with two in the same week. Completely disappointed in his bedside manner, his attitude, and his overall lack of paying any attention. A cheaper, just as well educated psychiatrist, psychologist, or social worker, would work just as well. Not professional at all, too entitled. Office staff, however, which consists of one assistant, could not have been more friendly. But overall, not pleased, especially given reputation and credentials. Highly recommend others to seek help elsewhere- don't bother wasting time, and all that money on an almost professional, only pretending to listen. read more
