A beautiful park and zoo in Göteborg, and it's free!…read more Slottsskogen was the highlight of my visit to Göteborg as well as one of my favourite experiences on my trip to Europe. I highly recommend it, and if you only have time to do a couple of things while in Göteborg, Slottsskogen should be a priority. The park is huge--perfect for a picnic or a game of Frisbee, and there is a zoo (one of the oldest in Sweden, according to the website). It's a great way to spend a day, and best of all, it's free!

I love this place! Not much can beat a HUGE park in the middle of a city - being able to enjoy…read morenature at no cost is something I am a fan of. There are paths for walking/running/biking, there's a giant pond with birds and little boats, there is an area with animals like ELK!, there is a playground, there is plenty of room for picnicking... and more! The location of Slottskogen is also fantastic - from one end you can easily access the botanical gardens and from the other you can head directly into town. Whenever I am in Göteborg, this place is tops on my list!

Unverseum in Gothenburg is a nice little science museum that's meant for kids, but was fun for two…read moreadults (me and my friend) too. There is SO much to do and see at Universeum. It's almost like a zoo meets a science museum meets a planetarium. Each floor has a different theme, so it's very easy to traverse and do each floor in order or bounce around. They had floors for each type of animal to visit (Ocean, Reptiles, Humans, and others) They have shows in the Wisdome, which is a big theater that is in the shape of a large geodesic dome. This is a separate ticket you buy, so check ahead what is being shown and see if you want to plan a visit during your Universeum visit time. There were a lot of kids running around here, as I said, but this is an educational museum so that is to be expected. If you're an adult going without kids, don't feel weird about it because it's super interesting for adults too!

Universeum is a child and family-oriented attraction, and I wouldn't highly recommend it for adults…read morewithout children or put it on my "must see" list. But it's still something fun to do (although expensive), and my sister and I decided to check out Universeum because we had the time, and there wasn't much else to do that worked with our schedule and interests. The highlight of Universeum was the rainforest exhibit. There were small monkeys running around, and they were so friggin' cute! The monkeys are free to roam around the exhibit and will walk right up to people and run around their feet--they aren't behind any kind of barrier. Despite there being special doors to prevent escape, be careful when exiting to ensure the monkeys don't get out!

Styr&Ställ (Rent-A-Bike) is the best service Gothenburg has offered locals and tourists!…read more It is super easy to use. Just grab a bike at one station bike to your next stop and park the bike, For SEK125 you can use the bikes as much as you want from March 1 to Dec 1. As long as you use it only 30 minutes at a time it will cost no extra. If you use it more than 30 minutes you will be extra charged and keeping the bike for many hours will be expensive (fee is SEK40 per 30 min after 1 hour!!), so if you need more than 30 mins to arrived at your station just return the bike along the way and get another free 30 minutes. This you can do for as many times as you want. Just wait a few minutes at each station to check out the bike again. You can also use this service for 3-days - perfect for visitors! Cost is SEK10 for all 3 days! Unfortunately you cannot just go to any station, pay and pick up a bike. You either need to register online for a membership OR go to one of the specified station with credit card possibilities. Even if the rental cost is only SEK10 a deposit of 140 SEK is required. Also your card needs a chip and PIN to be good for payment. The only thing you need to think about is that you can never just bike to the place you are going to, you always need to look for the nearest station. This is a bit difficult for me to remember! Stations are every 400 meters so I never have a problem finding a station, and if one is empty or full it is never far to the next station. The one thing I could wish for, is that the last stations (furthest out) could be beyond Linnégatan. There is an app for free for keeping time and finding stations - perfect! They do not accept AMEX.

After a quick visit to the Bohus Fästning (Fortress) our dog and us really needed a walk. And…read morethere's a nice little walk around the Fortress. You can either start south of the Fortress, just by the Bohusbron Bridge (there's a parking lot, 4 hours free) or north of the Fortress at the Ställplats - Husbil Camping and Parking lot (fees apply). The walk along the water and around the Fortress is quite short, but very nice. Sheep roam around free here, so please be respectful of their territory. Dogs are allowed though. There's a bunch of benches with nice views and some water access in case your furry friend needs a quick dip (ours did). If you are visiting the Fortress, be sure not to miss out on this little walk. There are hardly any visitors...
