Kedleston Hall is a stately mansion a few miles from Derby. The best ways to get there are by car or by bus (Bus No.114 to Ashbourne from Derby), the latter stops right next to the building. ATTENTION: The tickets for a visit to the house are being sold in the small ticket booth adjacent to the car park! Not inside the house itself! Kedleston Hall might not be as spectacular as some other family-owned mansions in England (Castle Howard in Yorkshire comes to mind!), but it is well worth a short trip. The rooms have all been restored to their 18th/19th century glory, and there are enough of them to keep you occupied for about an hour and a half. See my photos. Once you're done with the house, don't forget to visit the small church attached to it. It's very beautiful indeed. And you should definitely stroll through the large garden area in good weather, a fine place to unwind. The entry price (UKP 15 for an adult) is a bit steep, I must admit, but there are family options available. In the side wing you will find a small café with outside seating that offers scones and other typical English tea time niceties, and also some small meals. read more

A National Trust property, Kedleston Hall is a neo-classical mansion with stunning Adam interiors, gorgeous landscape gardens and parkland. The gardens are lovely for a wander if the weather's good. There's a gift shop and a restaurant/café serving food sourced from local/organic etc suppliers. The scones are particularly good! It's free to park, but £8 for adults to visit the house and gardens, or £3.60 for just the park/garden - NT members get in for free. read more

Kedleston Hall is a National Trust property. The Gardens and church access is 5 pounds and access to the house, gardens etc. is 13.50. This was the location for the film the Duchess and is a gorgeous wedding venue. I was visiting a local friend so we went here for a walk and a stop at the tea rooms but didn't go into the house. Apparently one wing is still used by the family and the other open to the public. They have four walks to do ranging from 1.7 to 3.2 miles on the grounds which are popular with the locals. If you are in the area, the tea room is worth a stop for local food including hotpot, oatcakes and rhubarb crumble. read more

Kedleston Hall is great for a relaxing day. I went there this summer spontaneously & really enjoyed myself. The actual grounds are beautiful and the animal park was good. The bar in the hall was cheap & customer service was good. There is lots of walking to do around the grounds & there is a lake which you can sit by and have a picnic. Although it was a busy summers day, it felt relaxing and the amount of space meant it didn't feel overcrowded. Overall, a very good experience. Its just a pity the house isn't open for you to look around. read more

Pretty well located if you happen to be visiting Derby, or passing through to the Peak District National Park. The house and gardens are surprisingly beautiful. The house is approached from a long private drive off the main road and winds its way up to the attraction through open parkland. The house itself contains a collection of items put together by Lord Curzon who was viceroy of india. There is therefore quite a variety of exhibits to see. It is a National Trust property, so the usual charges apply, unless you are actually a member. The high standard of facilities to be expected from National Trust are found at Kedleston Hall. All in all, Well worth a visit to see this neo-classical country house. read more

This isn't my sort of thing, but I was pleasantly surprised when I took my folks there a couple of weeks ago. It's not too big that you feel you have to spend the whole day there, but everything is well done and even if the contents don't excite you, you can marvel at the impressive architecture and beautiful grounds. read more

This is one of the most beautiful stately homes which I have been too and has been on my doorstep forever. Its ten minutes from my house and when you are there you could be anywhere in the world. The grounds are beautiful inc the chapel behind the main building, the grand marble ballroom which was used in the new Keira Knightly filmThe Dutchess and if you see it it is out of this world. The prices are great, the amount of parts to visit are unbelievable and an extra quirky thing which they do is in the main restaurant next to the building they do ghost nights which include a banquet and a spooky chap reading ghost stories, a great and different night out!!xxxxxx read more
