I went to The Venue to see a friend play in a darts competition and I was surprised just how huge…read moreit is inside. It really is just like a TARDIS. it looks like a tiny little clubroom from the outside but when you get inside it just goes on forever. There is a massive long bar and a big room with a vast dancefloor and a huge stage. You then go into the Darts room which had my head spinning because it has about 20 dartboards right round the room. There is tables down the middle of the room but it is hard if you have come to support a certain person play as they could be playing at any of the boards and you may not be able to see any of it depending on where you decide to sit. This would be an awesome place to hold a party. They hire out the rooms for functions and they also have live music nights as well as comedy nights and obviously because of the great Darts rooms they hold a lot of darts competitions so great if you just want to watch some good local talent. The prices of drinks are very reasonable and there is a limited parking area out the front but it is right across the road from Abbey St car park so there is no problem there. The staff are OK too. Friendly and efficient as bar-staff should be.

From the outside doesnt look quite big but inside has 2 decent size rooms that can be made big with slide away walls. Perfect location for functions and for gigs, this place has been a good centre for derby's local bands and also brought in some bigger bands like Fall Out Boy. Prices arent too bad either. The staff are hard working and always polite. There is a kitchen as well so food is readily available and this also means if booked out for weddin recpetions for example they can cater as well Run by 2 business partners and together its well organised.

This is the restaurant outlet, it appears, of the Revolution de Cuba BAR at No.1, The Strand. It is…read morea large, elegantly fashioned place that specializes in burgers and Latin American-style food. On weeknights, and most certainly, weekends, it does get quite busy. It's located a tiny wee bit off the city centre, but just about a 5-6 minute walk from the pedestrian precinct. It's an upmarket place, burgers go for as much as UKP 13, including fries and mayonnaise. Nothing more. There are several other sides available, and I do HEARTILY recommend the onion rings, which turned out to be the best I've had in my life - and there was quite a stack of them for a moderate UKP 3. A year ago I ate chimichangas there, which were quite all right but certainly not outstanding. This time I opted for the beef burger with pulled pork, and it was a good choice. Very good meat, very fine burger. The portion of fries was modest, but they were tasty. To avoid the crowds I had an early dinner at about 5.30 p.m. on a weekday, so it was rather empty. But it's a very elegant place with nice, attentive staff. The beer selection focuses on lagers - obviously. But then, there are OH SO MANY real ale pubs in Derby close by, like e.g. the wonderful The Flower Pot, within a 5-minute walking distance. Recommended for burgers and those great onion rings.

The food is delicious, I particularly recommend the tapas :) Loud gorgeous flavours emulate from all the dishes! Will definitely be returning here regularly :)

Set in a Wesleyan Chapel, Masa makes good use of space afforded to its by its former use. Downstairs is a copious area of comfortable seating, were you can sit and have a drink from the well stocked bar, whilst perusing over the varied menu. Not a cheap venue, so we were glad of the voucher; the menu had a sufficiently varied selection of starters and mains, from a tempting duck starter to fish of the day, Sea Bass on the day we visited. We plumped for the chicken wrapped in pancetta and the blade of beef. As our mains were being prepared we were shown to the main eating area upstairs. Initially we were the only diners, but as the night wore on, the restaurant gradually filled, which added greatly to the ambiance. After an aperitif of warm broccoli soup served in a tea cup, and some fresh bread with chilli flakes, the mains soon arrived. The chicken wrapped in pancetta was accompanied with dauphinoise potatoes and creamed leeks; the chicken was moist and tender, and a lovely rich flavour. The blade of beef sat on savoy cabbage, bacon and sweet red onions, with a fondant potato, all in a red wine jus. Again packed with flavour, the beef melted in the mouth. We also shared a side order of cauliflower, mange tout and carrots, a very healthy portion, to accompany my meagre single carrot I got with my meal. Side orders really do irritate me, if you going to sell an expensive main course, give me something to go with it, I don't want to always pay extra for something that really should come with the meal. Rant over! Fantastic main courses, packed with flavour, hopes were high for the desserts. The chocolate and orange crème brûlée sounded perfect, accompanied by shortcake biscuit and a chocolate twirl, with fresh mint ice cream. The Crème brûlée was lovely, a fantastically smooth chocolate taste, but try as I might, the orange flavour wasn't there. The fresh mint ice cream whilst nice, overpowered the rest of the dish too, a shame. My wife's lemon and lime cheesecake, with raspberry sorbet, also lacked flavour in the cheesecake. All in all a good meal, but both desserts didn't quite hit the mark, shame really, as the mains were really rather good!
