I've bought several products from here in the past, but feel like I need to warn people with my…read morerecent experience. Went in to ask about supplements, and was encouraged to purchase an item, being told that I should relax, because I could bring back the product and get a full refund, if it wasn't working for me. I ended up buying it, because there was a "20% all pills" promo that was advertised out front. Turned out that the product wasn't working for me, and upon going back into the store, I was told by another employee that there's no way I could ever get a refund. When I looked up the item I was sold, it turns out that it was actually cheaper to just buy it on the manufacturer's site, even with the 20% discount anyway. And this was apparently one of their own in house brands too (which makes the markup even more confusing). So, in brief, if you see an item in store there that you like, just go online, and check the item's actual REAL price online, because there's a good chance that it's actually sold cheaper by the company that makes it. And don't believe the staff when they tell you to not worry about buying a product, because of their return policy.

Fantastic place for QUALITY vitamins & nutritional supplements. Prices are unbelievably affordable…read morecompared to most places in Los Angeles, CA. I waited about three months before I actually did a review here because I wanted to finish the vitamins I had already been taking and then start taking the ones that I had gotten here at Peter Gillham's. And now I can write a legitimate review based on my experience of not just the vitamins that I have been taking but also my experience inside this store. The first thing I noticed was the "Mom and Pop" feel which I love - it was personable. The friendly lady at the front helped me immediately as soon as I asked for help. Now, I bought the bag of multiple vitamins in packets (and some additional supplements) and they turned out to not only give me the best price - I actually got quality vitamins here - I take these daily and I can totally see the difference in my skin and well-being. I see that they have been in business for decades. It's no surprise why - they want to help people be healthy without cleaning out your pocket book. I share this new-found business with anyone interested in a healthy body and won't be going anywhere else.

It has been very hard to find daily packets of multivits at any local nutritional store. As a teenager I was usually very deficient in iron, folic acid, etc however I became health conscious in 1984 when I was offered a job in the juice bar at Peter Gillham's and after taking the mulitvits I noticed that my nails became long and strong and I was generally healthier. I used to prepare Mr. Gillham's favorite drink called "Bohemian Protein Drink" with pineapple coconut juice and delivered it to his office upstairs on the corner of Catalina and Fountain. I have become very inspired by Mr. Gillham's knowledge of health and nutrition that I'm educating my boyfriend on nutrition and I plan on cleaning out his cupboard of cheap bottles of generic vitamins and replacing them with Peter Gillham's multivitamins. I would like to continue to be supportive of this store even after 38 years. PS,, I am also kind of relieved that the store attendant that worked there in 2015 has moved on and is no longer smoking cigarettes near the entrance of this store .

They were able to show me the difference between the types of products (I was mostly interested in bamboo salt), the benefits, and how to take. A gentleman by the name of Kevin Cho was very friendly and answered all my questions. I strongly suggest speaking with the sales staff (multi-lingual) if you have any doubts or concerns about taking natural products. I see someone posted that there was no one speaking English when they called, did you call back? I did not try the telephone, only in person and email (website).

I also got to sample some of the extracts they have! I bought the purple bamboo salt which is apparently known to be the healthiest salt, and also the Moo-yeot (Radish Paste Extract) for cough supplement. Downtown's best kept secret but shouldn't be! This small family business has been here for 22 years…read moreand is being priced out to move just a few doors down. They have premium health & wellness products --big variety of vitamins, cleansing products, etc. and I stumbled upon them looking for TeaTree & Eucalyptus oil which of course they had. They also offer holistic treatment plans as the family has medical backgrounds. And the owner does IRIDOLOGY EXAMS which I was stunned to discover.. and for only $35. The study of the Iris can tell you so much about the body, what you are lacking, about every part of the body and damage to any organ, etc. I had one Iridology exam in the past by a Native American whom immediately asked me if I drank splenda in my coffee daily (which I did) and he said it was badly damaging my thyroid. Anyhow, It's really hard to fine someone who is skilled at this exam and the owner definitely is. The owner is also sending his son to Europe to study reflexology to add to their services. The only thing they are lacking is proper signage, which is why I went straight to Yelp after discovering them. My fiance has galbladder problems and they immediately consulted us and gave him a prevention remedy vitamin. They are super skilled & knowledgable, and the prices are low. Check them out!

We got followed around a bunch of the stores by employees, which made it very uncomfortable to shop. By the time we made it to Nature A Nutrition, my spirits were pretty low, but when we approached the store, Cutie immediately welcomed us in with a warm kindness the others were lacking. I was hoping to find Goji berries as I've heard they are good for women's health, and although they did carry them, they were a bit pricey to what I was hoping for. None the less, Cutie began giving us samples of black garlic and a certain ginger that she said was good for gut health after easing steak. It was so fun that I immediately forgot about how the others made me feel. She showed us a pomegranate collagen that was on sale and I said SOLD! Please make it a point to stop in and see her. Such a kind soul and well stocked store.

I'm sorry but I feel compelled to write this review. After a lot of research and referrals from…read moreothers, I was between Derek and another woman and decided to go with Derek due to his reputation and the reviews on here. That was a year ago. I got really into everything he was selling. He seemed very enthusiastic about helping me and I bought into it hook line and sinker. I bought the products, supplements, additional sessions, etc. I even read the books and saw the movies he recommended to better understand food and how it works in our bodies. Unfortunately, half way thru our sessions (so after 3 sessions), we both got frustrated that I was not losing any weight. Derek suggested that I go to his "doctor"...which happened to be the other woman I was considering and is NOT a real doctor. (I'll leave her name out of it because I never met her but I researched her through medical boards via other doctors and she is not properly credentialed). So I told Derek this and then never heard from him again. Again, this was a year ago. I was hoping maybe at the end of the year there would be follow up to check in and see if there was interest in working together but there wasn't. So that in turn left me uninterested as well. However, I am disappointed that I lost money on 3 unused sessions but honestly the way this all played out made me not want to call and argue for my money back. So if you are planning on going just beware. Their intentions are not always as straightforward as they may seem.

I have to admit, New Metabolism kinda changed my life…read more I came in last year in a bad state. Bloated and feeling fatigued and blah, I needed help and needed help bad. I thought I would come in for some education on eating. Boy, did I get so much more than that. Derek Johnson is the Nutritionist at New Metabolism. He starts you off with a 9 week program complete with a full metabolic exam, blood sugar exam and so on. Once you take the exams, he figures out your deficiencies and puts you on a supplement plan if need be. Then each week, he checks everything from body fat percentage, your eating plan, your sleep and energy levels. Based on what you tell him, he adjusts the plan as necessary. It turned out I was suffering from high blood sugar, a big vitamin B deficiency, Seratonin deficiency and adrenal fatigue. And after a few months of taking different supplements, my life is like night and day. All my friends say I look better, I'm trimmer, I sleep like a baby and I don't crash out after 1pm. I handle stress better and my mind feels alot sharper. The 9 week package may be a bit pricey for some people but totally worth it. He is also extremely professional from the materials he produces, his advice and meetings. He's extremely approachable and almost all of his clients are from positive word of mouth. He is very organized and punctual and flexible to meet with you anywhere - in person, Skype, or the phone. He really cares about your health and is happy to answer any questions you may have. A year later I still check in with him almost monthly and I always come away from my appointments learning more than the last appointment. If you're looking for a legit nutritionist (not someone who hands you a bottle of fish oil supplements and sends you off), go see Derek. You will not be disappointed!
