I actually have a really good voice, i could be Australia's next Idol... Of course I'm being…read morecompletely sarcastic. My voice can make herds of wild cattle scarce. A friend of a friend had organised a Karaoke night and as much as I'm a fan i could not fathom getting up in front of people who i do not know and sharing my fingernails-on-a-chalkboard voice however i did manage to make it to F.M Karaoke Bar. The place is quite swanky for a traditional karaoke bar (i'm use to your shady underground karaoke bar with tacky wallpaper) but this place has modern furniture and rooms to suit. There's eight rooms in total and you're likely to see a whole bunch of hen's parties, birthdays and just friends gathered around to get really boozy and have a good time.

I love FM karaoke. Firstly it's one of the cheapest private karaoke rooms in Melbourne and secondly…read morethe themed rooms are hilarious. On my multiple visits here I've had the pleasure of singing Bowie in a Roman Colosseum themed room and also an Ancient Egypt room. Both were painted gold for some reason too. FM karaoke is Korean and so the beer and Sochu list is cheap and fun. I recommend having the CASS beer cans. The ground level of FM has the bar and also a public group karaoke section. Upstairs (no wheelchair accessibility) there are private themed rooms. It's all a little dodgy but that's half the charm. The song choices are all on the computer system and has all the classics and a few unusual new pics. FM Karaoke is not a fancy place (despite everything being splashed in gold paint). Go there for a fun and loose karaoke experience with friends.

I came here to see "The Big Hoo-Haa", which is improv comedy/theatre sports. If that had a Yelp…read morelisting, I'd probably give it a 4 star review. The Butterfly Club is located at Carson Place, which is effectively an alley. There's a few separate rooms, divided across a couple of floors. From what I remember, there was the bar area, another lounge, and the small theatre downstairs which seats about 40 people max. As another reviewer mentioned, the decor is very much "wacky and eccentric". Almost every square inch covered by kitschy items from the 70's and 80's, almost as if a hoarder had an estate sale and someone bought everything and decorated the bar with it. It certainly has a fringe, artsy feel too it, and the shows that take place here reflect that. The smaller theatre space was fun to bring an intimate feel for the improv show.

I get a smile on my face whenever I venture into the Butterfly Club. The venue is packed with…read moreknick-knacks and the show schedule is packed with unique shows. I've seen improv, comedy, and cabaret here and I've always left feeling satisfied. The performance spaces are smaller, so there is also an intimate feel. The programing veers towards 'fringe' style performances and there always seems to be something interesting going on there. Although that does mean that the shows might not be to everyone's tastes. If you're looking for a place to grab a drink and discuss what you've just seen, there is a dimly lit bar and lounge room on one of the levels. (This is also covered in trinkets.) I say - take a risk, wander down a dark laneway, up the stairs, and try something just a little bit different.

Partyworld = kareoke and for those who don't know what that is…read more.. You sing to your hearts content, dance silly, have some food and drinks all in the safety of a hired room. It doesn't matter how old you are or whether you can sing or not! Kareoke is for all who want to share music with others instead of singing in the shower alone. Partyworld was enjoyable as the rooms were clean and it is conveniently located in Melbourne Central making it close to bars, food, and of course the train station. We had 10 people in total on the friday night deal of $298 so it was reasonable as we ordered drinks and got a good work out from the singing and dancing till 3 in the morning. We did not book as it was a spur of the moment but for even bigger parties I would book just in case. Price: the more people the cheaper as alcohol in particular is very pricey Cleanliness: acceptable and comfortable booth seats

The portion sizes are TINY and the prices are VERY EXPENSIVE. A jug of orange juice costs $23! 10 hot chips on a plate (yes, 10) cost $10! Very, very disappointing. This venue had the worst customer service I have ever experienced in Melbourne. The waiter took 20 mins to take out order, and then came into the room 5 mins BEFORE the end of our session to clear us out. All of the staff from the security guards to the front desk clerk were rude and unfriendly.

I stumbled into Rice Queen whilst crossing the road!…read more Very strategic, Rice Queen! How can I resist the mannequin standing outside dressed in cheongsam with chopsticks in her hair telling me to eat rice! So I walked in and quickly realised this is a restaurant come bar. There's apparently karaoke room at back? Smoking seatings by the entrance, bar area with high tables and seats and restaurant area rear of venue and near the kitchen. The deco makes you feel like you've walked into your raunchy Asian aunt's pad. With red lanterns, fake flowers, booze filled wall and spicy cooking smell from the kitchen. It was wonderful! Food We tried the mini banh me, one with pork another with lobster. At $5 and $10 a pop, these buns tasted amazing but a total rip off. The Korean inside outside lettuce wrap ( called something like ssssmmmmhhhsssww) were around the same price and we tried one with crispy fish. The KFC - Korean fried chicken were winner of the day. Get the plate of 10 because they are better than finger lickin good. But only if you like it hot! Coated generously in five spice powder, they are fried with shallots and whole chillies. Mmmmmmm We wanted desperately to try dessert but felt rather robbed at this stage so decided to leave it for a planned night out. And this is what it's great for, lots of fun for a girls night out I imagine. It probably doesn't help that the service was very " I'm too cool to be friendly whilst serving you" But Rice Queen cooks well. And if she is anything like your raunchy Asian aunt, she probably makes a mean cocktail too.

We've come here on a few occasions and its strange because sometimes to food is spectacular and other nights the food is well... bland. The service is speedy and the atmosphere is really something else.
