They have certain DJs who come in and play some swamp music and practice their french creole language, with some talk shows, call in shows where they converse in french creole. It's a dying language and this station does a good job of letting people continue to hear such a beautiful language. There are sure a lot of advertisements on this station. I wish they'd make it a public station where they don't have to play ads. I have yet to hear any call in contests, but they have some contests on their website. I wish they'd stream this better online. You can listen to KVPI on their website. The music is varied! Every 2-4 hours, they have a new DJ come in who plays something completely different. My favorite is Shannon who is a Casey Casum sound-alike who makes snarky rock n' roll comments about bands from 1978.

Louisiana Proud! This is such a cool radio station! This is…read morea local affiliate of National Public Radio out of the local university, University of Louisiana. They do such a great job with local zydeco, cajun and Louisiana swamp pop. My favorite programs are when they have the local music talent on, and the entire show is in French Cajun dialect. There aren't any advertisements on this station, since it's on the left side of the dial, and is supported by listeners. So if you're listening, be sure to cough up some scratch for these guys and gals broadcasting from the swamps! This station still gets a bunch of the nationally syndicated radio shows from across the country, but the best stuff is certainly the locally produced shows. If you're a fan of accordions, which we all are, of course, then tune in, turn on! 88.7! This radio station never has any call in contests, but that's okay. Fortunately, you may tune in this station on your smart speaker by asking for the call letters, KRVS.
