Businesses come and go in Dock Square - some are new, others have been here since I first went to Maine as a child. The Whimsy Shop is on the latter end of that spectrum, and was always known for carrying more upscale gifts compared to a typical touristy souvenir shop. My brothers and I were looking for a gift to bring back to our parents from Maine, and thought this would be a good place to check out. The majority of their selection is home decor - there are a lot of porcelain products as well as a few housewares. They have pretty stuff, and even though it's a small store you can spend a good amount of time browsing. We ultimately decided to go with a hand-painted ceramic snowman to go with our parents' many other snowpeople they display during the holidays - it was intricately painted an truly a unique item. Service was friendly, they packed the item with care and even gave us information about the artist to take home. Overall, I had a great experience rediscovering the Whimsy Shop and would recommend it as a stop during your Kennebunkport explorations.

It is located on the waterfront of Dock Square and you can't miss it because the building is red! It is such a beautiful building and serves as the backdrop to a lot of pictures. They have a little bit of everything and I suppose it's a typical souvenir shop...but they do have some unique things here. I really enjoyed looking around and even got quite a few laughs. Just look in the windows and you'll want to go in! They seem to be decently priced as well. The staff is extremely friendly and they even have an online shop. Of course, shopping online is nothing like shopping in the store, but you can find some of their more popular items online.

This store is kind of a catch-all for souvenirs, hence it heavily appeals to tourists. Walking in on a July day I was greeted with a large number of people and a large number of merch. It's kind of hard to navigate, but you can make it work with some maneuvering. What can you find at Saxony? Well, let me try to see how much I can remember: t-shirts, sweatshirts, magnets, socks, cups, stuffed animals, magnets, lotions, potions, oodles, doodles - basically any sort of tchotchke you're looking for, you'll find it here. Something worth noting is that they carry a large amount of politically themed merchandise. They don't discriminate though - both sides of the spectrum are equally represented. Overall, you can find at least one thing to pick up while here. Prices are surprisingly cheap for a souvenir shop, but also I find they don't carry the highest quality stuff (the t-shirt I picked up, for example, is only 50% cotton). It's definitely worth a stop, though, if you are in Dock Square - at the very least you will be entertained by all the merchandise.

She then proceeded to talk on the phone to a vendor the whole time my friend and I were in there.The shop had some cute things, but I was treated so rudely that I can spend my money elsewhere. In every other shop we went in, including one that had extremely expensive blown glass, we were treated extremely well. My advice spend your money where they value the customer.

Like things I actually wanted to buy! None of the stupid tourist crap with MAINE written all over it. The staff was also really friendly. They greeted everyone who came in, asked if they could help, and thanked everyone walking out the door whether they bought something or not. The place was full of beach and new england inspired goods that were attractive and funky. Books about lobster, books about new england, retro sand pails, lamps made out of shells, flip flop coasters, starfish, paintings, weathered wood clocks. I highly recommend stopping in, and getting a REAL souvenir to bring back home. And if you're are one of the lucky few who live near the ocean, def come pick out some beach inspired decor for your house.
