We had KB Kitchen & Bath install our new kitchen cabinets and island. At first, they seemed very competent and professional. The sales guy opened up the showroom for us on a Saturday (they are not open on the weekends) since going up there during the week is difficult when you have a mon-fri job. We went in and picked out exactly the cabinets, drawers, and pulls we wanted. Everything seemed great! We were told about a 3 week delivery time, which worked well for us. The installers came on the day promised (back in September) and we were so excited to have our cabinets done since we had been living without a kitchen for a few months. Upon installation, we noticed the doors were not the doors we had picked out. We chose a shaker style door, but they had ordered all flat front doors. We called KB and told them what was going on, and they told us that if we kept the doors they sent, they would discount our invoice by $500. So, we decided to take the discount and keep the doors even though we were not 100% happy with them. We just really wanted our kitchen to be done! So, the installers resumed their work. When they were finished, we realized that all of the pulls on the doors and drawers were also WRONG! They were much shorter than the pulls we had asked for and we were very unhappy about this. Several of the pulls were also not level and that was noticeable by just looking at them. Also, we had them build a casing to go around our new refrigerator since it stands a few feet from the rest of the cabinets. Weeks earlier, we sent them the exact specifications for the model refrigerator we purchased and assumed they would use those measurements to build the casing to cover all sides of the refrigerator. Instead, the refrigerator sat a good 6-8" out from the casing they built and it really looked bad. There was also a huge gap between the top of the refrigerator and the cabinets they built over it. It just looked like the cabinets and the casing were not built to the dimensions of our refrigerator at all, and it was unacceptable. After several phone calls, KB sent someone from the Charlotte office (we are in Columbia) down to take a look at all of the problems we had. Obviously, they had to order us all new doors, drawers, and pulls because of the wrong pulls being installed, and they had to rebuild the refrigerator casing. We also asked them to build us a valance to cover the return for our hood vent and were told that would be no problem. We were told we could get the original doors we had ordered since they had to reorder everything anyway. But, of course it would take another 3-4 weeks before we would have our new order. So, we waited patiently. At the beginning of November, they came to re-install everything. We were so happy to have the doors we had originally ordered! However, they had not ordered the correct number of doors or pulls! They were missing 1 door and 3 pulls! And we were told it was going to be another 3 weeks until they would be in! I absolutely could not believe this!! After waiting so long, things were still not right!! They did replace the casing around the refrigerator to our specifications and it looks great now. The valance we asked them to build to hide the return for our hood vent was terrible, though. It was a 6" valance that did not hide anything. You could still see the entire return on the vent, which didn't make sense because we told them exactly what the purpose of the valance was. The installer was very nice and actually used some of the old doors to make us an acceptable valance, which we are now very happy with. So, he left with us still needing 1 door and 3 pulls. Finally, in December, the remaining door and pulls came in and they sent us an invoice for the cabinets. We were shocked to see that they had added the $500 back on for the original doors we had ordered! We responded to them, letting them know that it was not our fault the doors had to be re-ordered and we felt that we should not have to pay the $500 when we were originally willing to keep the flat front doors. It was their fault the wrong pulls got put on and we felt that they should have ordered the doors we wanted at no charge to us. We also felt that we should be entitled to some sort of discount. Our kitchen should have been finished back in September, but because of their inaccuracies, we were forced to wait until December. I really don't think that is a ridiculous request, and we were prepared to negotiate on what kind of discount they could give us. Well, the response we got was a very blunt "no" to getting any kind of discount and that since we had approved them to order our original cabinet choice, they were not going to remove the $500 for that either! They also told us that they SHOULD have charged us for the installer building us the correct valance over the hood vent! I absolutely could not believe this! DO NOT USE KB KITCHEN AND BATH! read more
