I've been a fan and a customer of Promila for years and it's high time I write an update to my initial reviews. I think EVERYONE needs to experience the magic hands of Promila. I had my not regular enough facial with her last Friday and when I was actually conscious it dawned on my why I love her so. Her facials are more than just a facial, they're a facassage or facialssage. I fall asleep every time and walk out there relaxed and looking amazing. Promila also has services that you won't find at your typical skincare day spa - shiro dara, candling, and many other Ayurvedic treatments. The Shiro dara experience is one I will never forget. She drizzles warm oil over your forehead (your third eye) and it's so relaxing I ended up falling asleep and dreaming about being on some cliff overlooking the beach. Everything happens for a reason and I was brought to this place for a reason. Not only I got a good deal on the service fees and products but I also received the best facial treatment. I've gone too many times to expensive facial treatments and I'm using expensive products but nothing works. Promila, the owner of the place, really goes beyond your expectations, you could feel she treats your skin in such a delicate way as if she is working on her own skin. Me and my mom had a very enjoyable experience at Kayantra. We went to get facials right before a wedding, and this was the place to go. The space was a bit small, but the soothing, soft-lighted interior was comforting. This was my first time getting a facial, and honestly this was the most relaxing thing I'd ever done. I was almost falling asleep while my facial was being done, and I felt like away from the world and its worries. I swear it was like taking a mini-vacation there. What I liked the most at Kayantra was how Promila thoroughly explained to what was going on with our faces (uneven skin tone, acne spots etc.) and provided us with solutions. Even when she was giving facials, she told us what she was putting on our faces and why. Promila does not rush - something that most people don't do nowadays and what makes going to Kayantra worth it. My facial took about two hours, but that had to be the two most relaxing hours I've had in a long time. This review was long time pending and today I found time to write about my experience at Kayantra in 2017. Being young women I used to worry about my skin, acne and that is why I found Kayantra in 2017 and was very impressed with service and promises initially. After I was done with my 7 settings my skin was worst than before because, Mrs. Promila kept rubbing my skin horribly every time without checking on how my skin is reacting. I could feel the pain on my face after each appointment. I wasted my hard earned money. I would recommend if you want a good massage and you have no skin issues, she is good but if you think you want to fix your skin issues please see any good dermatologist. She is good at making you fall for her treatment of $750, I did too but such a waste of money and time! No good results at the end! Save your self from disappointments! read more

I first came to see Promila five years ago. I was struggling with breakouts and had tried EVERYTHING to clear them up. I called a few dermatologists and they wanted $180 just for a 5-10 min consultation! I found Promila on yelp and called her, she spoke to me for about 30 minutes, and listened to all my concerns. Then, when I went to see her for the first time, she spent another hour with me going over treatment options, the types of products she could use on my face, and what to expect as far as how long it would take to see actual results. She wasn't pushy, and she didn't make promises she couldn't keep. She was realistic and seemed to really want to help me. After one facial, my skin felt better and looked better. It wasn't immediately cured, but I didn't expect it to be. After a few months of facials my breakouts stopped. My skin was soft, glowing, and happy. Sadly, I had to take a break from getting facials when I had my twins. Two years later and I had weird dry patches of skin on my face that would not go away, I tried every single moisturizer out there. I finally went to see Promila, after a few sessions, the dry patches were gone, and my face was happy again. Now I see her regularly and she really is unique at what she does. When I would get facials before, they were on a time limit, or I had harsh chemical peels and creams given out by dermatologists. Promlia takes SO much time making sure my face is getting what it needs, making sure the products are helping my skin, and she works until she sees results. She's always very positive and happy to see me. She does recommend products at times, but she has never made me feel like I HAVE to have them, in fact I didn't buy anything from her for 5 months, because I didn't feel pressure to. I went to Promila at the beginning of the year, and while I did love my facial, I am completely shocked by the price. If you have money to burn, then I can recommend her facial. It was relaxing, with good products (that she DOES push on you, then her bill adds a tip percentage for the products!), and she does take her time. The big news is -- there are BETTER facials at a fraction of the price. So unless you want to spend over $2k on facials per year, I suggest you go elsewhere. If you take a look at the other low-star ratings from reputable yelpers, I'm siding with them. read more

Very nice ambiance : look, feel and smell wise. But the actual facial itself was mediocre. I expected to see a glow, and in all fairness (pun intended ;) ), I did see a glow. But the kind you would see if you smeared your face with oil, not if you had a facial. Besides, it did not last me beyond a wash. As for Promila, she definitely came across as a nice person. Also, she did not push the Dermalogica products on me, like some reviewers here have accused her of. But when you pay $100 for a facial (without Yelp deals, the price runs even higher- $125) , then you want the actual purpose to be solved. That I think left a lot to be desired. I took away one star simply because she has a habit of talking WAY too much: I don't need your advice on my personal life, I don't want to hear about how much you meditate, and I certainly don't need your input on my relationships. Aside from that, everything else was great: she took her time getting to know my skin and was very careful about not using certain products and/or scents because of my allergies. After checking in on Yelp, I also received a free Dermatologica starter kit as a promotion. I didn't break out after my facial and my skin looked brighter and healthier. Took my wife to this place yesterday to get some facial treatment. And we were just so glad we picked the right place. Promila took her time to examine my wife's skin and suggest the right treatment. And she sees only one client at a time, giving her 100% attention to one person, which I felt was good. The room where she treated my wife was so well designed that it had some kind of aura. The soft music that was playing in the background intensifies the relaxing atmosphere. May be slightly expensive, but you get what you pay for. I highly recommend this place. read more

This is my 5th peel with Promilla and I must say my skin has never looked so even. Promila uses one of the best product out there Dermologica, which was very calming to my skin. I came to her with hyper pigmentation, redness, large pores, oily skin, you name it! She took the time to analyze my skin and recommended what was needed. I started noticing changes on the 2nd peel! Promila is amazing! For a very reasonable price, she does a very attentive, thorough facial. I usually spend 2 hours at Taj and only spend $90, which includes an eyebrow wax. She uses Dermalogica products and Indian lotions. My skin is so much better since I started seeing Promila. I've been getting facials for ten years, from lots of different people, but none are as good as she is. Even though it's a bit of a drive from Berkeley, it's totally worth it. Recently I received a facial from here and it was the worse facial I have ever had. She offered a consultation which I went in for but I was pressured into getting a facial, which hey why not right. However, the lady ended up rushing because her next appointment had arrived. If you do not have time to finish a session then please do not take a new customer in. On top of that for a face smothered in just oil, no extractions, nothing expected from a typical facial, I was told to pay more than 100 dollars. I have been seeing Promila for the past two years and no salon compares to her facials, waxing, and massage. I currently drive from Napa when I can..if that gives you a hint of how great she is. Not only is Promila extremely skilled she is also very personable and makes you feel comfortable and at ease. I call her the "skin shaman" because she really can work miracles. The wax she uses is very different from what others use, it is not painful and I don't feel like I am walking out with pink blotches all over. In fact even with just a wax, my face glows, but for a glorious radiance her facials never fail. My sister recently received a European Facial and my mom exclaimed her skin never looked so good! When it comes to beauty services I like to go to professional salons or salon like environments; so I was a little hesitiant to book my facial appointment here since it's in an office space, but boy am I glad I did. The lady who helped me (who is the owner as well i'm guessing) was the sweetest little Hindi lady and really took the time to customize my facial to the needs of my skin. She has this awesome black light machine that lets her look at the UV damage and oil pockets on your skin. She only uses Dermalogia products and wasn't very pushy about selling me on them when I was done. I was in her office about 2 hours - 15 minutes of that was for the skin consultation the rest was pure facial!!! AMAZING! my skin literally glowed for days after seeing her. I booked my next appointment 6 weeks out and I can't wait to go back. She also does scalp/hair treatments for hair regrowth and a few other services. read more

Promila is a godsend. I've been getting facials and waxings from her for over a year. When she moved from Shattuck to MLK I made the mistake of popping into a different salon to get a quick upper lip waxing and that place ripped half my face off. The area would have scarred but Promila happened to call me with her new address. I ran right over to her and she put many soothing ointments on my skin to help the healing process. I never plan on going to anyone else again. Her facials are very reasonably priced. I've never had a better one though I've certainly had more expensive ones. read more
