I have been smoking shisha for 20 years and been to almost all the hookah places in Port Moody and Burnaby. Kayan shisha café is the best so far. Start with the place, it's big and wide. You feel relaxed and have your own space not like some of the other places where you feel you are in a box. The lighting is great, the decor is original and the ventilation is just right which, combined, create pleasant and soothing ambience. Next, the service. Simply put, it's great. The servers are always around and I never had any issue with my orders. They know their flavours very well and they give you great recommandations. I switched flavours at kayan for the first time in years and now I am hooked to it. Not only that but you can tell that a lot of people who hang out there are long term customers which tell you something about the place. They treat the place like home. The owner and the servers are very friendly and you feel you are in a big happy family. Finally, the shisha and the food. The shisha is the best I have tried. A lot of variety and combination of flavours. The food items are very good. I recommend the authentic lebanese hummus, baba ghanouj and tabbouleh. This place sucks. I would never ever go back there. Also my friends. One of my friends warned us that their hookah might not satisfied you but we decided to come here anyway because it's super close to our house. (WE SHOULDN'T HAVE DONE THAT) The owner is super rude and she is like doing a favour for you when you're talking to her or asking something. They even don't have what they wrote in the menu. And the guy who came to get the order was like someone kicked him and forced him to do this job. If you are that unhappy don't do it it's not good for your health poor boy. He told us there is other people waiting for me can you just order. I really shocked (it's not our fault that the items in your menu isn't available). Even he couldn't speak. He was leaning on the table like he has a terrible pain on his leg :( It was four of us there and when finally we found something to order he said you HAVE TO order 2 hookahs. Excuse me!!! When he saw our faces he said I don't know I'm not owner I just work here and it's our policy. I just don't want to tell anymore about the owner. After all I hope they read this and make changes to have a better business going on. They have a very nice place in a good location so with some changes they could be much better than what they are right now. We left the place and won't go back there again. Zero star for this place. The owner is full of herself and always talks in a beyond rude way. A piece of advice for her , please treat your customers in a respectable way. You're not some military commander. Calm down and whatever policies and regulations you have can be explained in a good, smooth way. My friend and I came to this hookah lounge for the first time. 2 stars is for the hookah, music and ambience. The owners daughter is very rude. The customer service is very bad. All the employees sit around a table with their own hookahs and stare at everyone. The group next to us who had some of the group members not smoking to shisha were told to smoke or leave. They we're offended and left. The daughter of the owner then came up to us and told us that after 2 charcoal changed and 3 hours we needed to leave. We also asked for 2 glasses of water after we ordered some food and tea but the owner said she "only had bottled water". I really wanted to come back here as well. But for being over charged and the crappy customer service I don't think we will. read more

I went to Kayan hookah lounge for the first time yesterday having been to many other hookah lounges in the area. Before I could even take a few steps in the one girl working there ran up to me and told me I was not allowed to bring my tea in and that she was going to keep it behind the counter. Then, as soon as I sat down before I could even get comfortable she walks over to me and tells me she needs to see my ID for whatever reason. I was the only person out of my friends or anyone else I had seen enter that she chose to ID. Let's just say that better customer service is needed read more

Terrible service, rude and racist. I would give negative star if I could. Right at the moment you try to order something, you get the you are in the wrong neighborhood feeling. Servers give you the look that you are bothering them, HUGELY. It's like they're doing you such a favor to take your order. We took two puffs of the Hookah and figured out that it has no flavor; asked about it and the owner's daughter told us that we have already smoked for awhile, there's nothing they can do.
