Every year my son and I commemorate Mother's Day with an outdoor activity - usually a hike in nature. We have done this every year (my son is now 18). This year we did something different. We took a 12 mile kayak paddle on the Kalamazoo River with Kayak Kayak. From the first phone call I placed for information, Skip was very friendly and generous with his time, knowledge and welcome. He made sure that the trip we were considering would be a good match for our interest/activity level/experience and gave us the details on what to expect. We had a blast. Our trip took us through the Allegan Forest. No cars, no buildings...just birdsong, trees, and a comfortably wide slowly moving current. We drifted under a pair of adult bald eagles that looked us in the eye as well as what we later learned were the juvenile offspring. We saw many yellow warblers, belted kingfishers and wood ducks. About half way through we got out on one of the many easy to access banks, threw down a beach towel and had a picnic lunch. It was early in the season so a bit chilly, but we were dressed in layers/hat and stayed warm. We passed only 5 people (fishermen) during our paddle which only added to the "Lewis and Clark" feel. The kayaks performed well, had very comfortable seats, plenty of storage (the back hold fit my backpack), and were dry and clean. Skip was waiting for us on our return and took pics as my son and I made a final laughing sprint to the take-out beach. I highly recommend Kayak Kayak!! read more
