She asked how I wanted them done, I asked for just a clean up as we both agreed that going thinner would not look good. However, after my eyebrows were done, I felt there were just a touch thinner than I wanted but still very smooth and clean. The tech was friendly and the price was more than reasonable. They share a parking lot with their plaza. 4/5.

I also have a very strong preference for Indian salons, as threading for eyebrows is a part of their culture. Finding an Indian-owned salon to get my brows done in South Jersey was hard, until I found Padma's. Voorhees has a wide variety of Indian-owned stores ranging from clothing, to food, to salons. Padma's offers many types of salon services and henna. I have now been going every few weeks for my brow threading over the course of several months. Padma's is located in a strip mall in Voorhees. It's not your average fancy or aesthetically-pleasing salon. However, it offers a good variety of salon/spa services as well as Indian wedding makeup. The women who work here are dedicated and do a great job. Because Padma's is well-staffed, they are able to accommodate a good number of customers at once. For eyebrow threading/waxing, appointments aren't required. I have never waited longer than 10 minutes to get my threading done. Overall, I really like this place. The women who work here all do a great job. While they're not focused on exceptional customer service, they still do their best to make conversation and be friendly. For anyone who is familiar with foreign-owned businesses, Padma's has some of that sentimental "back home" feel. Their pricing is also much lower than others in the area; they charge $6 for brows and $4 for upper lip. This place is a true gem; I always make sure to plan my threading around the times in the area.

I walk in the salon at 5 minutes to 3:00pm and the lady at the counter calls Monica, my stylist, to inform her that I have arrived and also reminds her that she also has a 3:30pm appt. Monica had gone to get her nails done so by the time Monica arrives, it is 3:15pm. I was not happy having to sit in the chair (yes the coworker had me sitting in the chair waiting for her)but I figured that anyone can run late. No big deal. Monica looks at me and asks if I need a hair wash. I said whatever she thinks and she starts to tell me how her 3:30pm appt is already here and that she doesn't have time to do a hair wash so she will just wet my hair. Now I am furious. I wasn't late, she was and she had the audacity to tell me that she doesn't have time to wash my hair. So I apologized and said that I didn't think 15 minutes was enough time for my haircut. I stood up and started walking towards the door and she started talking behind my back with her coworker and her 3:30pm appt. Really Lady!!!! You couldn't even wait for me yo walk out before you start talking about me? Very very disappointed with her. Also, it is a beautiful salon but they have totally let it run down. I usually don't write bad reviews but this one was incorrigible.

"Of course!," I replied... assuming she had other customers in the back or something important. But no, she wanted to finish styling her own hair... I patiently waited for her to finish blowing out her hair, but at this point I was pretty turned off. I told her I wanted to get my face waxed so she threw a dirty white towel on my shoulders. It had black scruff marks and pink wax on it from previously being used on others. She quickly threaded my eyebrows and waxed my face. I kindly pointed out there were still little hairs on my eyebrows, which she did try to remove with the thread, but they were so close to the surface so they should've been plucked instead. I had to intensely pluck when I got home and my sideburns were very uneven. I came back a few times because the prices were a lot more reasonable than other salons. Only $15 for eyebrows and full face wax, which is amaze considering my genetic make up requires me to wax relatively often, but every time the service makes me question why I came back.

So you ask.. how did I turn into a Dorothy Dandridge Goddess lookalike? .. Or, more frankly, from…read morea bear to a non-bear? ;) This Indian salon-- my friends have been trying to get in on this so here it is: If there is one thing India prides more than the exquisite cuisine of the land, the lush forests, the stunning palaces, the spectacular fashions: it's the beauty of Indian women. Indian women are so gorgeous! Whether they are young or young-at-heart, there is a grace that shines through. I get inspired and hope to capture a fraction of that Indian beauty, if I can. Yet after quite a few decades on me ;).. I need a bit of help from my salon friends. So I searched far and wide for that perfect Indian salon. Yet I hated the arrogant atmosphere of some of those Indian salons in north NJ/NY. So I avoided them.. and ended up paying a fortune at "nicer expensive" places. The gorgeous Indian NJ girls kindly let me in on their secret of one right here in South Jersey... and this place is an oasis! They do hair, skin, waxing, nails, et all. I hear they even do incredible thermal reconditioning / japanese hair straightening-- at a very low rates. Now that's rare. Moreover, they do it with no hoo-haaa or airs of the other places.. nor do they force your wallet to go on a diet. The prices are so right-- an incredible fraction of those expensive places. Who would have thought a simple little hidden salon in the back of an Indian grocery store would turn up such treasures? It is run by two lovely sisters, Sital and Sonal.. and they are so sweet and talented. It is also nice because if you bring your friend(s) along, they can shop at the Indian botique across of it, do Indian groceries, and can eat in the complex restaurants (i.e Curry Cafe)-- and not get bored waiting for you. So it's an all-in-one place.. nice. I've tried their eyebrow threading numerous times and it's a thumbs up: Eyebrow threading is de-facto Indian beauty treatment -- an ancient art. Eyebrow threading is so much preferable to waxing (much more elegant precision, much faster, no allergies, less pain.. and much more refined-- as the thread is expertly used to create the removal/precision.). All this for a mere $4.00!! And me being a total bear, the sweet girl spent nearly a half hour perfecting it-- whereareas most places start giving you attitude if you want more than 5 minutes (actually threading is fast and takes only about 5 minutes-- so to be fair, spending more than 5 minutes may be a bit too much... but she will do it if you want that). I never get more compliments than after she threads it for me-- I literally get transformed-- and with my years-- that's quite a feat. People say... came back from a vacation...? you look so fresh.. This is not the case when I have it done by others. I went to an expensive spa recently and they all wanted to know where I got my brows done-- even the spa personnel who does eyebrow waxing wanted to know. She's that good.. that sweet.. to take her time to do it right. She listens to what you want. Bring photos (or not) and she will work with you. Just the other day, I needed an elaborate extensive hair service for an event and they were booked for a month. Seeing my dire need, the girls actually rescheduled their hectic schedules, placed me in for the whole day, and will be doing it for me. **Update: The hair turned out incredible. They took all day to do it- they even skipped lunch to finish up. They are SUPER. ** So now you know my secret to being the Dorothy Dandrige - Goddess. :) well.. almost. ;)

She took into consideration my request and threaded my eyebrows exactly how I wanted. For that and the rest of my face, a total of $10. TEN DOLLARS. Some places charge $7-10 for just eyebrows. For such a lovely job, I would've been happy to pay double. Highly recommended. And next time, I'm going grocery shopping, too. Those aromas are irresistible.
