03/13/2019: One of the smaller falls along the way...
    Sivilay T.

Review #048 - 2019 I'm not sure how come there's no review for this place yet, but I guess no one's been able to check in here since the cell reception is pretty much dead once you get here. We showed up around 1:30 PM on Wednesday, March 13th. Being that it was the middle of a workday & middle of the work week, I assumed it would be pretty quiet. I guess I was wrong because it was still crowded. I guess people don't really need to depend on Yelp to find this hidden spot! Well, it's not so hidden anymore since everybody's here! The walk to the first waterfall was actually not too bad at all. I pretty much was able to push my daughter's stroller 85-90% of the way. However, getting to the very top required a lot of energy, stamina and legwork. The steps leading to the top is no joke. It was plenty slippery because everyone was wet coming back down so I am so glad I had a personal helper carry my daughter's stroller up to the top. The bottom fall actually is just as nice so if you are looking for a better view up top, it's not that big of a difference. Especially with all the extra walking, I would've been plenty happy at the bottom fall since it actually has a full service restaurant; whereas, the top fall only has a tiny snack shop.

OMG, why haven"t I tried Canyoneering before?! What an amazing day at Kawasan falls. If you are…read moreeven slightly adventurous, I highly recommend joining one of the outfitters on a canyonerring adventure to trek through the series of three falls. Canyoneering involves hiking, jumping, scrambling, and diving. Our trip took slightly over four hours. I do not advise doing it alone as the guides not only know the best routes, but they are there to assist you as you go through the series of falls. At one jump I actually lost a shoe and one of them retrieved it. Also, there was a landslide the week before where they rerouted. I think it's best you join an outditter, which will also provide you with safety gear. If you choose to do only some scenic shots, there is an admittance/ ecological fee. The waters, unique color comes from the limestone, which gives it that Gatorade color-effect. Along the route, you will encounter a few barbecue and food stations. Surprisingly, the rocks were not that slippery. Even though this can get crowded with tourists, I am amazed at how clean the forest and water were. One of my most memorable days in the Philippines so far.

Clean and airconditioned restrooms with toilet paper and hand soap at 10 pesos per person, unless you buy a ticket to one of the activities then you show your ticket and the restroom is free to use. So the fee to zipline was 350 pesos each person and 250 for the cable car. We opted to do the zipline, paid our fee and hurried up the hill. (if you take a camera or phone with you they will ask you to sign a waiver indicating they are not liable if you drop your belongings, fair enough!) I tell you its a little ways up, I'm not in shape so I was huffin and puffin all the way up. I ran out of breath by the time we got up to the launching point so we took a few before we got on. We were wearing flip flops so I asked if I had to go bare foot, the attendants said it was no problem as they would just clip your flip flops to the harness and take them with you. So here we go, you get put on a harness and you lay facing down. So visually you'll look like a taco, and your the filling. haha. They push you to get you going and at first I was like, "oh no big deal.." until I got passed the trees and then I was holding on to dear life. The view was spectacular, the wind .. well let's just say I felt like an eagle. I mean wow!! It was amazing. I got to the end and feared that I'd hit my face, but nope they got me. hehe. So now I'm on the otherside. You get off then you go up another set of stairs so you can ride back. I have to admit my legs were shaking from the adrenline rush and honestly I was also afraid. Whew!! breathe in.. breathe out.. So again same steps as before.. and off you go.. I thought that it was gonna be a shorter ride (in height) going back, but nope just as high up, and just as thrilling. When you get back you have the option to purchase a cd with pics they've taken of you. I believe it was 250 pesos. We bought the cd. If I'm in the area again I would most certainly zipline again. Thanks for the awesome time. Tip: Get there early as at times the queue will get longer and may cause an earlier close time for the activity. The second time I went, I brought my brother, and we arrived around 3 to 4 pm. There were a group other people waiting around as well, the zipline activity closed early because only one zipline was operating and the queue was long for the ride back. So it was a no go the second time around. Maybe next time!

And if you're going to see Kawasan Falls, there's only one way to do it - by canyoneering! We had well planned out the trip to Badian far in advance because this was on our agenda. After doing some search online, we saw that some other competitors had tickets available for online purchase at about $70USD. I've gone to the Philippines before as a tourist, and one of the tricks that I've learned is to purchase all your excursions once you're there and not beforehand. This worked 100% in our favor as the tickets the day of the event and with this company was only $20 for a half day tour plus food and a lifejacket. Talk about a huge savings! Our $20 started off with a motorbike ride up to the start of the hike. Coincidentally, it started pouring like hell, so it really felt like a crazy jungle adventure while walking through the greenery. We had to be extra careful along the rocky pathways so that we didn't slip. After about 20 minutes of walking in pretty much silence, we started to hear people roaring and having a good time - I knew by this point we had reached our destination. It was paradise! People were cliff diving, sliding through the canyons, swinging into the water, and simply enjoying nature. On this tour, you'll continue your trek to many different waterfalls that you can swim in, dive into, etc. Because we did the half tour, we only had one slide. I'm completely content with this company, the tour, and the price, and can't wait to come back to do the full tour one day

The reason I'm giving such a bad review is because I do not appreciate being lied to. I booked through Highland Adventures because it was recommended to me by a friend. I took tour B which included a stop to Tumalog Falls. We never went to Tumalog Falls and our tour ended 2 hours early. The road was blocked so I completely understand why we could not go. I asked if it was possible to get a refund for that portion of the tour and I was told that I can be refunded 2.57CAD for missing Tumalog Falls. For a tour that costs 130 dollars CAD with 4 destinations in total. I have a really hard time believing that the cost of the private van, driver, and tour guide, equates for 2.57 CAD or 100PHP for 2 hours. At this point it's not about the money it's about principle. If you email this company be ready to wait a few days for a reply. I emailed them the day before to try to confirm pickup and got no response until late in the evening. Considering we had to get up at 4:00 am for the tour and had no confirmed meeting location since the car could not come to our Airbnb this was less than ideal. While on this trip my partner got a severe burn on his leg. When we asked if we could be dropped off at the closest a hospital instead of our Airbnb. Our driver decided that he did not need medical attention. The wound became infected and we have to seek treatment several times throughout our trip. All that being said we thought our guide was amazing and he really deserves to be running his own tour company.

The last time we were there was February 2024. It was super busy the day we went, but we eventually found parking. There was an entrance fee of 100 Philippine Pesos per person. The equivalent of about $2 USD. A fair price. I'm guessing it goes towards all the construction and renovation that they were doing to the place at that time. The views from Tops are still wonderful. Does not matter if you are there during the day or during the evening, you will still be treated with a magnificent view. Pictures do not do it justice. By now, construction must be finished. I believe they were working on adding restaurants and a hotel to Tops Lookout. The observation deck was also to be expanded to a 360 degree view of Cebu City!
