Can't believe we found this incredible gem of a restaurant only 30 minutes from home! A little bit out-of-the-way for many people, but perfect for anyone traveling on Route I-80. The food is absolutely fantastic! I recommend the Lagman soup and the bread with the egg in the middle! As an added bonus, you can buy eastern European pickled tomatoes. This is an amazing place to stop at. We were so excited to find this gem! The owners are so welcoming and the food is amazing. We ordered two chicken kebabs and homemade bread. The chicken was delicious and the rice perfectly cooked. The bread was mind blowing. Everything about this place is perfect. We called ahead and the owner took the time to clean and set the outside table for us, giving us our own private dining area due to corona virus. He was friendly and explained all the amazing things they make and checked on us frequently. Absolutely we will be back here. It was a wonderful experience from start finish. What a great find. Do not let the outside fool you, the food is incredible. If you are in the area this is a must stop for an unexpected treat on a food choice desert of I-80. The food is Armenian/Russian and everything is clearly homemade and all cooked to order. The owner was one of the nicest guys you will meet and very proud of their traditions which made the experience even better. I wish this place was closer to where I live!!! We had the 'vegetable stew' (sorry don't remember the correct name) and the 'spicy' stew (again forgot the name) - not spicy...just garlicy (excellent). We found this gem through a Best Of list of restaurantsoff I80, and what a find it is! Fabulous Georgian (Europe) cuisine which is at once extremely tasty but also very accessible for the uninitiated. There on a freezing day and had thick soups and meatballs with mashed potatoes and pilaf, as well as just baked bread. Very easy on off from the highway at Exit 192 as well. We'll be stopping for sure on our NY to OH through trips from now on. read more

Don't let appearances fool you -- inside the empty parking lot is lots of deliciousness. We all had shish kebab -- one lamb, two chicken. They came with rice, onions, and a great sauce, plus we ordered a loaf of bread and, on the recommendation of reviewers here, cheese bread. Everything was excellent, and the owner and staff very friendly and helpful. The meat was a bit dried out, for which I was going to deduct a star, but the owner more than made up for it with his hospitality (including local sparkling water to trial). I will definitely be back if I'm ever in the area. And the convenience from I-80 is unbeatable -- easy on, easy off. read more

This restaurant is different! Very slavakian/polish (maybe??) dishes. So if you don't like that style, you may have a hard time finding dishes you would typically eat (see photos for menu selection). I had beef kebab and samsa bread, and really enjoyed both. One of my coworkers didn't enjoy his chicken kebab (I don't think he usually tries many different food styles), and they did not charge him, which I thought was nice of them. Locating a decent restaurant on the lonesome highway 81 in Pennsylvania can find itself to be quite the challenge. Hungry travelers are pretty much desperate for anything to push down their gullets. After scouring Yelp and Google, all whilst bellies growling after only half of our trip was complete, we first stumbled upon the Twilight Cafe, but got slightly scared upon driving up (mold growing on signage, missing letters too?!) after deciding that wasn't the place for us, we found Kavkaz on Yelp - brewing with decent reviews. I for one am quite the discerning eater, a novice foodie, a person having experienced a gamut of cuisines. Middle Eastern not excluded. Kavkaz didn't look open at first. It was in a building that resembled something like an abandoned shop. But there were about 8 tractor trailers in the lot, and two other cars in the parking lot. Also, the open sign was on and the door was unlocked, so those were pluses. We found a seat by the window (closed shades) and sat down. It seemed as though the restaurant was something of a different cuisine, perhaps a bar at one point in time. A large flat panel TV was affixed to the wall offered the patrons YouTube videos of hip hop singers, flashing scantily clad women, men driving fancy cars & flashing large expensive watches & jewelry, which was a treat. The waiter greeted us, gave us one menu (laminated, dog eared pages woven together with a lace ribbon) to share amongst the 3 of us where one page displayed pictures of the food choices and their respective descriptions in English, with the other side listing the same options, but this time, looked to be Russian wording. The waiter gave us a lot of time to choose our food, as we weren't entirely sure what was good, I mean, we were in the middle of Pennsylvania at a middle eastern restaurant. He took our drink order (no water offered) and left us for a bit to help other patrons. We had absolutely no clue what to order, for each one of us had different culinary needs: One carnivore. One vegan. One picky. The vegan chose what resembled a mixed oily vegetable/ fried potato/ cabbage stir-fry. As it was described, there was light spice and it had a distinctive "crunch", which presumably was from the aforementioned cabbage. Of course, no butter was used. Carnivore (me) chose a beef pilaf, which was simply a dish with steak cubes and savory/ seasoned white rice amidst some random carrots. It was also surrounded by homemade, spicy dill pickle slices. This was A tasty dish and quite filling, to say the least. Also served (and actually suggested) was their "Cheesy Bread" which was quite like a pizza, covered with a white, cheddar-like cheese and underneath, a ricotta-cream cheese filing. This was rather delicious, but having not eaten for about 7 hours, this dairy and dough delight was sure to sit in my belly like a rock. It looked like there were four or five people in the kitchen, one of which wore a fancy blue hat and apron who seemed to stare at me from the little window where they passed food out. The owner came up to us and asked us how things were - we said if we were back in the area, we'd return. All in all, the food was good. I give it 4 stars for food taste. Delicious!! This place is a hidden gem. Everything my friends and I had here was amazing. The service has an amazing home feel. The shish kabobs here were amazing. They came out fresh and flavorful. We had the beef and by the reccomendation of the server/owner we switch to pork over chicken and we are glad we did! My friend got the borscht and it reminded him of his family cooking and was very satisfied. Also if you come by make sure to try the pastry they have on the counter as an appetizer. This place sums up the reason I love yelp. When you are traveling through PA and you stumble into this place, in the middle of no where. Service was very friendly and attentive. Greek salad, soups and pilaf meal were all delicious. The television allowed us to travel around the world while being serenaded by Sia which was a nice touch. What a treat to find delicious home cooking right off the culinary wasteland that is I-80 going through Pennsylvania. Don't be put off by the exterior- this is food like Babushka used to make. We had salad, borscht (perfect amount of pepper and depth of flavor) and the incredibly delicious khachapuri megruli- Georgian cheese bread. Unlike other reviews both here and other websites, we found the service fast, food came right out, and the server very helpful and nice (I think her husband owns the restaurant?). This will be a regular stop for us every time we drive east- west on 80. Will bring a Russian dictionary next time though so we can try a wider variety!! -!! Oooh what a find. If you want avoid the diner or fast food on I-80 then check this restaurant out. Everything is homemade from scratch and you can tell nothing is from a can or frozen bag. Yes, communication can be a bit difficult with out Romanian speaking waitress (who speaks better Russian than English). However she really tried to educate us on the dishes. We started with the fresh salad, (simply prepared, but very good). They also served a loaf of fresh made bread. I had the beef stroganoff (which oddly had a mustard sauce, but then I am not an expert on this type of food). She had the potatoes with mushrooms which was delicious. We ended with the "cheese bread" which is hand made and takes 25 minutes to prepare. Thumbs up for an unique restaurant. read more
