Dr. Velonas took the time and patience with me in making sure that I was completely comfortable with him and everything he was doing. I do not freeze and therefore going to the dentist consists of turning into a pin cushion. Dr. Velonas has taken the time which consists of hours to ensure that I am comfortable with all of the procedures which I have required. I can honestly say that now I can go to the dentist confidently with ALOT less fear and actually laugh with my dentist. After 2 visits I have found my new dentist. I am not a fan of going to the dentist. I had a couple of scary experiences when I was younger which still gives me some anxiety even when I am just getting a cleaning. The staff at Newton Village Dental is so great. The ladies at the front were warm and not pretentious and the overall atmosphere was comfortable and non intimidating. Initially I had a cleaning by a hygienist who did a great job. My first check up with Dr. Velonas was great. He is very calm, normal and good humoured and I could tell he has a real connection with his staff. Dr. Velonas was very to the point about certain work I needed after neglecting my teeth for a few years while moving around (and admittedly for my fear of dentists). He explained my options very clearly and without the feeling of up-selling or pressure. I really appreciated his compassionate yet firm advice. We figured out a plan for my dental work that worked for me and I am actually sort of looking forward to getting this done finally. Dr. Velonas seems to truly care about his patients and it is clear he has a passion for helping people. My second visit was for a couple of fillings. As far as I can remember I have never been to a dentist where I have managed to laugh (especially when there to get fillings). A close and trusted friend recommended their dentist of 15 years - Dr Newitt - earlier this year when I didn't trust my other family dentist in Kitsilano anymore. Set above Chapters, this little dentist has a middle-of-the-road kinda look and feel, but it's Dr Newitt's professionalism, focus and no-nonsense approach that gets 5-stars. He doesn't chitter chatter whilst doing his work (which means he's focusing our your teeth! read: no errors!). He has his space observatory style magnification system, laser system and goodness knows whatever appropriately named dentistwizardry. I asked for more pain relief (I get nervous) and he obliged. He's a gentleman. My husband and I have been many times now for filling replacements, crown fitting/replacement, hygienist, mouth guard consultation - and each time I was delighted with the service. Dr Newitt will refer you to the best people in their field for larger more specialist jobs (braces, retainers, bone grafts). Why delighted? Whenever I had fillings elsewhere, there would be errors - they'd mess up and would have to keep going back (read: pay more). So far, Dr Newitt focuses on the job, and gets it done perfectly - first time. And that's the most important thing to me. And I hope to have a very long dental relationship with his practice, despite the 40 minute drive from Burnaby each time :)

He is very friendly, informative, and talented. He as a cool 3D camera that can scan and then display a 3D model of your actual teeth in full color. He uses that to discuss the state of your teeth, treatment options, and tips for better care. Compared to all the dentists I've seen in my life, these offices & equipment felt like walking into a starship med bay. He did a thorough cleaning and was very careful about my sensitivity adjusting his equipment & technique and provided several breaks. He refilled the chip out of my front tooth and you would not be able to tell there was ever anything wrong with it. He can also do Invisuline to straighten teeth and we discussed if that was appropriate for me. He was very thorough on the scan of my teeth and the review of the proposed treatment plan. He runs strict covid protocols which may seem a bit over the top this late in the pandemic however it is nice to know you have almost no risk. (1 patient at a time with time between, mask, footies, sanitizer.) If you need general dentistry or your teeth straightened or at all uncomfortable seeing a dentist, I would recommend you try Dr Li.

He assertively let the lab know that it was not acceptable to make his patient change her appointment because the lab was irresponsibly late. Our whole family had been…read moreseeing Dr. Racich for years and we really liked his calm, capable, and well-informed work (he is even an author of dentistry books!). When Dr. Racich left (suddenly/unexpectedly) I started seeing "Dr.B"--Dr. Bussières. Dr. B is competent and well-educated. Unfortunately I have A LOT of problems with my teeth and I was very used to Dr. Racich's cautious attitude. I have some of the thinnest enamel possible and I'd had previous dental work done where the dentist didn't even ask permission to diamond disc between two teeth. As such, I'm *very* nervous at the dentist. I found that Dr. Bussières has more of a straight-forward attitude (compared to Dr. Racich's caution) and decided to fill 2 small cavities that were side-by-side at the same time. (Previously, Dr. Racich would do 1, wait to make sure things were okay, and then done the next, when they were touching between teeth.) As a result, I had excruciating pain on that side, and couldn't chew anything, a mere week before I left on a month-long vacation. (edited to add: Dr. Bussières did come in on a day off to try and fix the problem before I left town, but it was not a one-visit kind of fix and I was apprehensive to have more work done). I have since switched dentists but I believe my dad (who has less dental issues) and my mom (who has lots of dental issues) still see Dr. Bussières. So this is just my personal experience.

They gave me the most comprehensive exam I've ever had, and actually told me the state of my teeth and dental health, which I've never had. The root canal was far less intimidating once Dr. B explained everything and he and his staff were very attentive. And no pain during, or after my filling! Numbing gel + a small shot = I don't feel a thing, and they let me listen to my iPod during the procedure, so my anxiety is minimal. Plus Camille, the receptionist is really nice, helpful, and well versed on insurance coverage.
