Mahootchi and Huang at the EYE CLINIC OF FLORIDA. I went here after having passed by the location for 10 or more years. It's a pristine white and black building on US 301 near the corner of Eiland Boulevard. I never thought in a million years I would ever need to visit. After numerous bouts of Covid-19, everything that could go wrong medically has almost assuredly happened to me. Within the last two years, I went from being told "it looks like you may have the early development of cataracts," to "your cataracts appear to be rapidily expanding and you need immediate cataract treatment." Like so many others, I immediately set an appointment three months away for "the Big Eye Care Institute" in the Tampa Bay region. Little did I know how cold, seemingly uncaring, rushed, and very, very expensive they would be - all without wanting to check and see how much my insurance policy would cover. Would it surprise you that they came in saying anywhere from $2,500 to $4,500....per eye needing treatment? It had to be paid upfront before any additional steps could be taken. I had to find somewhere else to go, and fast! Enter THE EYE CLINIC OF FLORIDA and DR. AHAD MAHOOTCHI! You talk about a Group of Professionals amongst Professionals! From the moment I walked through the front door, every single person greeted me pleasantly and seemed to be thoroughly vested in making sure my every needs were met. I could tell they really cared about my concerns of going blind. Receptionists, Eye Technicians, Dr. Haung who consulted and worked on my case with Dr. Mahootchi, Linda in Financial Services who worked with my insurance company and booked my two surgeries, and the secondary SAME DAY OUTPATIENT SURGICAL CENTER right behind THE EYE CLINIC OF FLORIDA - and each person at that facility from Dawn the Receptionist & Scheduler, to the Pre-Surgical Team, the Anesthesiology Physician, the OR Team, the Recovery Room Nurses and even the Nurses who twice escorted me out to my awaiting wife and ride home - nothing at this REMARKABLE FACILITY WAS LESS THAN PERFECTION! I wish I could name each and every one of the people who works with DRS. MAHOOTCHI and HUANG at THE EYE CLINIC OF FLORIDA. They are all really that great, and you need to go here for any and all eye care you may need. My two surgeries lasted probably about 15 to 20 minutes each. I was lightly sedated and could walk to and from the OR without feeling any pain. The healing process involved having my eyes dialated each time, and that lasted for approximately 2 days after the surgery. However, I could see nearly 95 percent better in each eye immediately following each surgery. And no uncomfortable eye patch following either surgery. Within a week, I was back to 20-30 vision! I'd bet it's probably even better now!!! There really are not enough words to say THANK YOU to the entire EYE CLINIC OF FLORIDA & SAME DAY OUTPATIENT SURGICAL CENTER TEAMS!!! For cataracts there are quite a few tests you must endure and everyone I encountered was happy to answer my inane questions (I nervous talk and ask dumb things just to fill the silence). Dr. Ireland could see how disappointed I was that the fancy Ferrari lenses would not work for me due to potential overlap with my LASIK scars being a hindrance rather than a help. She was able to offer a solution with a mid-range lens (neither far, nor near optimized, but mid-range vision like a computer screen). Because most of my work is done on a computer this was a good compromise. The wait after having eyes dilated is a bit longer. Bring something to occupy your time and you'll be fine. Or take a nap. At the time I had mine done I wasn't in my 50s, yet, and it was delightful to hear the other patients say, "but you're so young!" :D If you ever want to hear you're young, get arthritis and have cataracts before age 50, lol. Billing went smoothly. No issues there. I did have to pay a little extra for my Land Rover lenses versus the Corolla version. Be sure to ask more questions. I think I would have been fine with the Corolla (these are my layperson terms, not medical terms) and I should have inquired deeper, but as my mom still lives and breathes so too does she push for the "best" for me. Sometimes you have to ignore Mom, y'all. I'm not unhappy, but I will forever wonder if Corolla would have served me well. Aftercare was flawless. I am Well behind on my appointments due to life events (we all have Those things happen, right?). I'm looking forward to seeing the office staff at the Brownwood office and following up with Dr. Causey. My mother, Maichu, received the absolute greatest care and guidance, which was critical as she was having surgery on her "good eye." First, the wait time is never long. (This is worth mentioning, as we have seen surgeons elsewhere where wait times were upward of hours. This can cause stress and unease.) Second, the staff is caring. Not only friendly, but helpful, and pleasant. Every room is immaculate with state-of-the-art equipment. Dr. Shumski performed laser cataract surgery that was an astonishing success. Mai says it was painless (only discomfort was "about 20 eye drops and switching rooms" pre-surgery. This is a far cry from the cataract surgery performed on her right eye a few years ago by a different office in the area.) Laser seems to be the way to go: less pain, and most importantly, it's safer. Maichu doesn't use computers, and has urged me several times to leave Magruder a review, and I hope this has helped you in finding the right fit for your eye journey.
