I left with a new-found love for the owner of this place and an undying wish to see his business do well. Seriously. My boyfriend wanted something a bit more breakfast-y that wasn't too expensive, but alas we couldn't find any nearby so we resorted to Danny Q's charcoal chicken shop. The signs on the window is part of the menu and almost all of the meals were under 10 dollars - dirt cheap for a full meal with chicken, chips, AND a drink? I'm sold. Walk in, and you see a little Asian man running the shop by himself. My boyfriend asked him if he had any breakfast foods, and the man sheepishly apologised and said they didn't have much besides sandwiches. My boyfriend then ordered a burger. To make up for the fact that my boyfriend couldn't get exactly what he wanted, we saw the man PILE on chips on the plate. And I mean it was a mountain where you had to walk slowly so the chips don't fall off - I've never seen such a generous portion in my life! My boyfriend opens his burger and notices that the man added bacon and egg, breakfast ingredients to make up for the fact that they have no real big breakfasts available. Fast forward to us happily eating our meals - a man walks in and starts looking at the newspapers on the counter. When he couldn't reach one, the owner paused what he was doing, rushed from the kitchen, and gave the man the newspaper. Aww... Then I looked around and observed - a tiny charcoal chicken shop with very few seating and handmade posters of the menu. Just imagining this little man by himself carefully cutting out pictures and glue them to posterboard actually gave me a tear in my eye. --- But to the food... Like I said, it was REALLY cheap for the portions you get. Half chicken with chips and a drink all for under 10 dollars. This place really serves you a bang for your buck. The chicken was delicious and juicy with very flavoursome roasted skin. Went great with a side of nice thick chips. Ketchup upon request.

As far as take away chicken shops go, this is one is pretty damn awesome. I have passed this on…read moremany occasions, wondering what on earth the 'twist' is exactly. The twist seems to be their signature gluten free stuffing. Every chicken is well seasoned and stuffed with a ricey-barley type stuffing with vegetables. It was awesome. We scooped out the lot and mixed it up with some spinach and slaw to make our own side salad, as by the time we arrived (dinner time, about 6.30-7ish) the pre-made salads were looking really sad and sparse. Our own knock up was pretty good, so we were happy. Speaking of salads, there are heaps on the menu but that seems to be for the lunch crowd. At dinner they aren't replenished and there was only two left. They were ok to make up a fresh Greek Salad, but that was about it. But back to the chicken and chips...that's what you really need out of a good chicken shop and this place delivered. The rosemary-salted chips were fresh, crunchy and moorish. The service was really friendly and I would definitely come back here if I had a hankering for chicken and chips. I'd probably use the stuffing in my own salad again too because that was taaasty.
