It's rare I finish a katsu meal satisfied, but Katsu King is a pleasant exception. I popped in one night for a quick meal while waiting to meet someone, and wasn't expecting much, but was thoroughly impressed throughout my visit.
I was kindly greeted upon my arrival. I ordered a basic plate with katsu chicken and a side of rice. I said I was dining in but was confused where to wait. The vast majority of seating is upstairs so I figured I'd wait downstairs til my meal was ready, but they would have brought it to me. It wasn't busy so they knew where it was going. Meal was ready fairly quickly, under 10 minutes. I carried it upstairs myself though they kindly offered to do so for me.
The chicken looked like a little wheel, cut into four equal quadrants. What it lacked in size it made up in quality. The breading was nice and light and not too crispy, and the chicken itself was very fresh and tender. The sauce was nothing special, but the chicken was tasty and didn't need much. The meal came with a little side salad as well. I'm used to macaroni salad with katsu, but greens were a nice change. It was good I had some filling rice to accompany the chicken since the portion is on the small side.
Overall, kind, attentive service with a smile, and quality food in a spotless environment. A meal with a drink is somewhere around $15, so a little pricey given the small-ish portion of chicken, but I'll always come back for fresh, quality food. read more
