What a fabulous venue for our baby shower event!…read more If you're looking for a truly special venue, Blue Moon Barn and Vintage Market is an absolute hidden gem just over the Illinois border and south of Lake Michigan in Westfield, Indiana. Tucked away down a quiet, tree-lined country road setting feels beautifully remote--peaceful, private, and full of charm. So very worth the drive! The barn itself is nothing short of magnificent. With soaring two-story beamed ceilings and thoughtfully curated décor, every corner is filled with unique vintage finds sourced from around the world. The creative lighting alone is stunning and creates an unforgettable atmosphere, whether you're hosting a daytime gathering or an evening event. There is even an Airbnb guest apartment inside the barn! Inside, the over 5000 sq feet of event space is both elegant and functional. The long, 12-foot wooden tables add to the rustic sophistication, and the full-service kitchen makes hosting seamless. There's also plenty of parking, which makes things easy for guests--something I've found is often overlooked but so important. What truly sets this place apart is its heart. The property is situated on an 80-acre animal rescue acreage, and the events hosted there help support that meaningful mission--something as a guest I felt good about being part of. And a special mention goes to Jen, the hostess, who is warm, incredibly accommodating and welcoming. Her attention to detail and genuine care make the entire experience even more memorable. In my opinion, whether you're planning a special event, wedding, or simply visiting, Blue Moon Barn offers a one-of-a-kind experience that blends rustic beauty, thoughtful design, and purpose in the most wonderful way.

I get that thrift stores often smell unpleasant, but Valpo Vintage needs a good airing out. It's…read morenot even an old-stuff smell -- it's more like a restroom smell. And this was confirmed when I visited the restroom, which also serves as the fitting room. (P.S. They don't have a fitting room here, but if you ask nicely, a grumpy person will let you try on stuff in the restroom, while standing outside of said restroom.) Someone needs to come by and sift through the things for sale here, and get rid of 60% of them. Have you ever seen footage of someone clearing a table or counter by sweeping their arm across a pile of stuff? Someone needs to come and do that to Valpo Vintage, metaphorically. (Or literally, really.) More is not more, sometimes. I did find a cool Shirley Temple glass mug, though. And a blouse that I thought was cool, but after trying it on in the restroom, I confirmed that it was too big and blousy for me. Mostly, though, this place has a lot of junky things, and not very many cool vintage things. It's like an indoor yard sale: items that someone wants out of their house.

I found a super heavy and ornate crystal candy dish and a top hat! Why of course wouldn't someone want to purchase those two seemingly unlike items. The prices are a little steep, but honestly, nothing I haven't seen at plenty other antique stores. I got more than a fair deal on the two items I purchased. I was more than happy to squeeze between the crevices to unearth "rusty gold." I found my gorgeous candy dish on a bottom cabinet shelf in the far back and my top hat way up high sitting on a penguin. Visit Katie's, if anything it's worth a gander.

If I could visualize jazz music, it would look exactly like Katie's Antiques. Wow, this place is absolutely packed with every kind of curio, novelty, ornament, and porcelain eyesore you could imagine. Have you ever been creeped out by watching the TV show "Hoarders"? Then you will certainly get the heebeegeebees at Katie's. I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that customers who are chubby, plump, or portly might have trouble squeezing in between the cabinets and shelves. Basically, it's nearly impossible to actually see the wares offered at Katie's because there's just too much to look at. Your eye can't fall on any one particular item at a time. I'm not a business-savvy person, but I can't imagine this is the desired effect. Another thing I found more than a little strange is the surprisingly large number of porcelain mugs, vases, and steins in the likeness of Ben Franklin and other crusty-looking Baroque characters. It was kind of freaky to see three or four of these ghoulish doodads on nearly every shelf. Honestly, it's the reason I left Katie's without seeing the whole place. Have you ever been in a house of mirrors? It's kind of like that. No thanks.
