Scary Canary is a cool little bar / venue at the top of Stourbridge High Street, housed in the…read moreformer McDonalds building. On entering through a fairly plain black door you walk upstairs to find yourself in a lovely room filled with quirky lighting, mis-matched chairs, tables and sofas and with loads of art by local artists on the walls, (most of it for sale). The venue regularly hosts gigs, film nights and quizzes with a different theme each week. Last time I did a film quiz there, one of the rounds was 'who can draw the best picture of Steve Buscemi'! The bar is well stocked with a good range of beers, wine and spirits and also sells snacks like crisps and nuts. It also has a really great sound system and a small area that serves as a stage and dance floor. I went to Scary Canary last night for a birthday party and had a great evening, I would really recommend it as an alternative to all of the chain / old man pubs that are in Stourbridge.

For example - the big screen broke before the Grand National, management apologised and quickly got the race up on their laptop and we all gathered round to watch. Then they let us bring chips in from next door (as we were fairly drunk by then). All in all a non pretentious boozer that defines itself as a gay venue but offers all the warmest of welcomes. I urge anyone who is passing through Stourbridge and inclined to support a gay venture to get down there. Oh - it's a Banks's pub and the bitter was brilliant. What a great little pub!…read more The highlights were the real ales, a decent draught cider selection (including Hogan's, Thatchers etc) and a variety of scotch eggs to satisfy your bar snack needs (black pudding ones, Cumberland ones etc. for only £2.50). The pub itself is a lovely old fashioned looking type with several working fireplaces, and a piano. Also a nice garden of a fairly decent size with benches on the lawn, under the porch, and in a little covered area at the back, which has a stove installed. Located next to the park, which is another bonus. I'd definitely come here again, preferably not driving this time! Kids are allowed outside but not inside.
