After wandering on both sides of the store for awhile, I left . Several years ago I had a similar, but not so blatant experience in this store. Mom recently lost her beloved husband of nearly 7 decades. Due to Dad's illness, and Mom's cognitive decline, my mother's clothing had become beyond worn-out. It would have been impossible for me to leave my mother, alone, in the dressing room, while I went repeatedly searching the store for proper sizes. Brandy came to our rescue, without being asked. Due to her invaluable assistance - for 2+ hours - we were able to find 7 quality, mix-and-match pieces. I had been thinking that my only option would be to buy online from Talbots, with repeated shipments, exchanges and returns. Brandy made it all possible, with unexpected ease, never missing a beat. It appeared that one customer was having a personal fitting, which was fine, but they had two saleswomen helping that one person in the dressing room. The main salesperson helping the other customer barely gave others in the dressing room the time of day (and she never left the dressing room), and the second saleswoman kept retrieving more clothes from the floor. When I asked a simple question, they said I could come back another time if I wanted to find a blouse that matched the skirt I was buying. I bought three items, but honestly I would have bought much more if I hadn't felt like I was crashing a private party. I waited more than 5 minutes for the second saleswoman to come out of the dressing room to ring up my order, and she told me she was in a rush because she needed to find a shirt for that person in the dressing room. WTH, Talbots? How about having one salesperson for a personal fitting and using your other salespeople to help other customers? So I stopped by last Sunday afternoon, well dressed and obviously in shopping mode, and was-- shall we say-- completely underwhelmed. First of all, I wasn't greeted...ever. I can understand a small staff taking a few moments to notice a new arrival, but I was in the store a full 10 minutes without so much as a "hello." The staff I did see appeared engrossed in personal conversations-- either with one another, or with people they knew who did not seem to be shopping. All in all, the atmosphere was very snooty, snobby and completely unwelcoming. The inventory caters to the petite customer; otherwise, there is a very limited selection. It's been a long time since I've been in a store that left me with such a bad impression. As a business owner myself, I am very circumspect about writing a poor review-- but this place needs a wake-up call in a big way. May this serve as one. Until then, I will resume shopping for my spring/summer wardrobe online, and continue to shop IRL ABT-- anywhere but Talbots.
