I decided to hire Kate after getting a 560 on my first exam. My brain felt frozen due to the fact that it has been awhile since I graduated from college. Thanks to Kate it quickly warmed up and became better than ever! My greatest impression of Kate was her incredible Maths skill. She was like a magician when you throw 700-800 level maths problems at her. No matter how difficult a problem was, she was always able to find a few ways to solve it with ease. She showed me how to solve some of the most complicated problems using the simplest methods, and sometimes the ways she solves these problems were honestly like magic tricks--really incredible and even entertaining! I was able to score a 50 on quant. I ended up getting a 710 and it could not be possible without Kate! read more

Kate was awesome to work with and the results speak for themselves. I went from a 630 on the first two trys to a 690 after six sessions with Kate. She has great insights during the actual reviews, but more importantly she gives you a methodology to study that was invaluable. For me, she gave me the tools to breakthrough to a score I am much happier with. I wish I had started much sooner, as I would have saved myself a ton of time. It was awesome working with Kate, and I would recommend anyone seek her out if they are serious about improving their study habits. read more

Kate helped me achieve an ambitious GMAT goal and I'm forever grateful! She was easy to work with and her GMAT skills are wicked sharp. The most helpful part of my time with Kate was the way she taught me to structure my practice time outside of our one-on-one sessions. I would recommend Kate to anyone who has a solid understanding of the basics but needs some tactics and discipline to help them break through to the next level. read more

I really enjoyed working with Kate to prepare for the GMAT! I started working with Kate after I had already been preparing for a couple of months but had been unable to hit the quant score that I needed. After meeting ~1x/week for 2 months, my overall score jumped from a 660 to a 710 and my quant score went up 6 points! Kate knows all of the OG problems extremely well (she was able to easily recommend different problems for me to solve based on my areas of weakness), and I loved using the TestCrackers materials during our sessions. She is also really knowledgeable about different test-taking techniques and strategies to help you get to the answer easier and faster. I would definitely recommend Kate as a GMAT tutor - she is supportive, easy to work with, and will help you meet your goal! read more

Kate was an invaluable resource and a fantastic teacher. When I started studying for the GMAT, I tried learning on my own with books and online materials. I landed a 650 on my first try, but I wanted to raise my score and couldn't crack the quant section on my own. I found Kate and started meeting with her once a week. Not only did she help me beef up my quantitative skills, but more importantly, she gave me a perspective on how I should be thinking about the GMAT. This included test taking methods, study strategies, and simple ways to mentally prepare. I scored a 700 in my latest GMAT attempt. My verbal score increased 3 points and my quant score increased by 4. Working with Kate was absolutely worth it and a real pleasure. I would highly recommend her for anyone looking to improve their GMAT score! read more

I LOVE KATE!!!!! She was my guiding angel during the gmat process, and I truly could not be more grateful for her. A few reasons why you should book her... + GMAT GURU: She knows it all and understands how to use your time with optimal efficiency. She can easily access weaknesses, and give you the right resources / training to help you turn a weakness into a strength. (IE, verbal was my general weakness, with sentence correction being my WORST category. After buckling down with her for a few weeks focusing on SC, and having her explain to me her thought process on answering those questions when it came down to the gmat, I got 100% of SC correct. WOWZA) + Patience: She is super patient and gives the most thoughtful answers. I never thought I was asking a stupid question, and when I didn't understand something, she took time to explain it in an easy to understand way. She is truly a one of a kind instructor. + Invested: She is 100% invested in your success. I needed to take the GMAT during a time sensitive period, but there were no spots available. After refreshing the page a few days I was ready to give up... and then SHE CALLED ME AT 8AM and turns out there was a spot available!!!! I was truly touched by how invested she was in the process. I 100% recommend her. I have gone through the GMAT process intensely and cannot recommend a better person. Also, as someone who aspires to go to business school, Kate is just such an inspiring person to be around. She's truly a #badass, and having worked so closely with a successful, smart, talented female the last few months truly inspired me to work hard and dream big. Thanks for everything Kate!!!! read more

Kate is amazing! My 13 year old boy, now entering HS was having difficulty in his math class. We've tried many different tutors. His teachers, other HS kids, his dad whose pretty much a mathematician... and nothing worked. We found Kate through my son's friends who were getting tutored by her. She's patient and she communicates very well with him. My children tell me that they can tell that she actually enjoys tutoring. His math grade shot up from a "D" to an "A"!!!!!!! Totally worth every penny! I have three kids, and now she's agreed to take on my 5th grader! My kids are in good hands. We do this all over video conference. We live in CA and she's in MI! That should say it all folks! That's how awesome she is! read more

Kate is a great tutor. I've had a handful of tutors for various reasons and Kate definitely tops the list. She's very accommodating when it comes to scheduling. Her demeanor makes it extremely easy to ask questions and she tailors her tutoring to however you learn best. Also, she's very responsive by phone and email. I had tutoring for GMAT testing and felt much more confident after just the first few sessions. I don't write many reviews, but I will when I feel it's well deserved. The work Kate does and the effort she puts into her work definitely deserves it. read more

Kate is helping our 4th-to-5th grade son during the summer to make sure that he doesn't backslide on his knowledge and to prepare him with more confidence for his 5th grade year. So far it's been great. I really appreciate Kate's use of multi-part problems to challenge my son. They feel like a good basis for his education going forward. read more

With out a doubt, Kate is the math tutor you want in your home. Flawlessly skilled, fluent in math and patient as can be, Kate takes the daunting and breaks it down into simple language, concepts and visuals. Kate uncomplicates the process of learning math by giving voice to the far-off fears kids' have around new concepts, theories and applications. We first started with Kate for our daughter over a year ago. Fast forward and our kid now says, without hesitation, that math is her favorite subject. We added our son to Kate's line-up and see equally strong results both with classwork, homework and test scores. Yeah, we're big fans of Kate. You should be too. read more

Kate has been helping our son, a sophomore in high school, with his accelerated algebra class, The material is very difficult (even my techie husband with an engineering background had trouble) and yet Kate has been able to explain it to our son. If only we had found her sooner! We are extremely happy with Kate. She is patient, professional and flexible with scheduling. Most importantly, she knows math and can break it down in a way that confused kids can understand! I would highly recommend her to anyone and plan to ask her to help my son and his little brother over the summer. read more

Kate was friendly, professional, and easy to work with while I studied with her for the GMAT for around two months. Kate is great! I contacted her a few weeks before entering a college level calculus class because in order to be fully enrolled in the class we had to pass a readiness test. When I looked at the readiness test online, it was super confusing and tricky. She met me wherever was convenient for me(house or cafe close to work) was always on time and ready to help me learn math. She explains things really well and definitely knows her math. She cares and checks up on you to see if you need any extra help outside the session. I will be using her again for my actual calc class! read more

Kate is amazing. I took the GMAT twice last year after taking a Manhattan Prep course and came out at 690 both times. After working with Kate on Quant for ~10 weeks, I got a 730. Math improved from ~41-42 to 47. Not only did Kate provide highly effective strategies for test taking success, she was a pleasure to work with. Kate was incredibly flexible and always willing to do "just one more!" even when time was up. Thank you Kate! read more

Kate is an outstanding teacher! Kate has been tutoring our son for over a year now since the end of six grade (pre-algebra) right through throughout the seventh grade (advanced pre-algebra). He was struggling to keep up with the pace of the concepts that were being introduced in school, and my husband and I were struggling to help him at home. Kate immediately had a handle on what his needs were. Kate has helped him to develop a deeper comprehension of the pre-algebra concepts and his problem-solving skills. He communicates directly with Kate where his challenges are from week to week; she listens are responds accordingly. They work through problems together, so he really understands how to apply his knowledge to problem solving. Kate also helps him prepare for weekly school tests. His confidence in his math class and his high math grade speak to the success he has had working with Kate. Kate is extremely professional. Always punctual. Always great to deal with. Quite simply, Kate is awesome! It has been a pleasure working with Kate. I cannot recommend her highly enough! read more

Kate was an awesome tutor in helping me study for a business math class. She took the time to review the lesson plan and homework before our meetings each week, explained the foundations of the subject matter in terms that made complete sense, and went above and beyond by sending me follow-up content to review that was extremely relevant to my studies. She made herself extremely available and will come to wherever is easiest for you to meet. I highly recommend Kate for your tutoring needs and will definitely work with her again! read more

I was ready to give up on applying to MBA programs until I met Kate. I had started (and never completed) various programs with Manhattan and other private tutors - but Kate is the only one who pushed me to the finish line. This is not only because she has the most comprehensive grip on the material tested on the GMAT, but also because she is keenly aware of the MBA application process. Kate creates accountability through goal-setting and realistic scheduling (of homework, practice exams, etc.). She is incredibly flexible with meeting times and locations and will make sure you do not fall behind on a session or material. At the outset of your sessions, she will review the general test-taking skills and best studying practices in 1/10 of the time it would take a GMAT course to cover. After each session, I completed her diligent follow-up (beyond practice tests, she would send specific materials and problems related to problem areas diagnosed) and stayed on the schedule we set together. More impressively, Kate was able to keep me on track GMAT-wise while I applied to more than a handful of programs in tandem, balancing essay-writing and test-taking. Ultimately, in fewer than 12 weeks with Kate, my score improved by 60 points from a 650 to a 710 and I was admitted to both Booth and Wharton because I followed her advice to a T. read more

Kate is compassionate, patient, engaging and amazing at what she does. Kate tutored me in statistics and research methods courses that I was taking as part of a Post-Baccalaureate program at UC Berkeley. As a result of my learning disabilities I have always struggled with math and I was very apprehensive about taking advanced statistics courses. However, Kate made very challenging material easy for me to understand and her calm, kind and optimistic attitude made each session enjoyable. I received an A+ in both classes that Kate tutored me in and I would not have been able to succeed without her. I have worked with many tutors over the years and I can confidently say that Kate is simply the best! read more

A little over a year ago I gave up trying to tutor my son in math. I just was not getting through to him. I realized that this needed to be handled by a professional. I used Thumbtack, and after interviewing a couple of tutors, decided on Kate Greenthal. Her resume was impressive and her personality seemed like it would be a good fit for my son. I wasn't wrong. My son has gone from a an A capable student struggling to get a C to an A capable students dent cruising to an A. My son does not yet find the joy in Math that Kate does but he does show flashes. Retaining Kate e is one of the smarter things I have done. read more

I studied with Kate for two months, and improved my GMAT score from a 560 in my first practice, to a 670 on my first GMAT, and then a 720 on my second GMAT. I reached out to Kate after scoring 590 on my first GMAT test. I had completed the Manhattan Prep live course and studied on my own for about 2.5 months. I definitely needed some structured help to break down my Quant weaknesses and turn them into strengths. Kate was able to do just that. She didn't try to mold me to her process, but rather tailored her teaching to my style of learning. She was patient, knowledgeable, and able to think outside the box to help me understand difficult concepts. I met with Kate 5 times before my second GMAT attempt and was able to improve my score to 680. My Quant score jumped 9 points between tests. I would highly recommend working with Kate if you're looking to improve your GMAT score and test-taking abilities. read more

Kate was an excellent match for our fifth grade daughter who fell behind in math due to several years of inconsistent instruction at school related to SF's teacher shortage. Kate increased our daughter's confidence after only a few sessions. She did a great job assessing and remediating the gaps in learning from third and fourth grade and helped our daughter keep up with and understand most of the fifth grade curriculum despite spotty instruction at school. Kate's teaching style is very student-centered, interactive, and builds on strengths. My daughter actually looked forward to her weekly math tutoring session with Kate and we are very grateful for how she helped turn things around. read more

Kate tutored my 4th grade son in math for a few months this spring. Over the course of the school year he had developed a very negative attitude about math - it was boring, he hated it, he was bad at it, etc. As a result, he was acting up in class and missing some of the concepts he was supposed to be learning, which then reinforced those negative attitudes because he was even behind. Kate was a miracle worker. She was great at engaging him, making math fun and exciting, helping him to learn the concepts, giving him confidence that he was good at math. It shored up and strengthened his understanding of the math concepts he had missed (manipulating fractions), and renewed his confidence in and love for math. I highly recommend Kate for your math-resistant student! (Also, Kate was very professional and easy to schedule.) read more

Kate is a terrific tutor. In 2 sessions she helped me increase my GMAT score from 620 to 680. I attribute this to 2 things: 1- Kate made herself available beyond our tutor sessions. If I had questions I was comfortable calling/emailing her and she would field them. She was vested in my success and it showed. 2- she helped me develop a targeted study plan. She did this by first reviewing the statistics from my ManPrep practice tests. With this she identified my strengths and weaknesses and developed a strategy to maximize the efficacy of my efforts. I could not have done this without Kate. She then gave me specific homework, review topics and study schedules. I did several months of self study before meeting with Kate, but my practice scores were stagnant around 620. Kate helped me synthesize the knowledge I already had, and her practical and targeted study plan were very effective. I highly recommend Kate for your GMAT prep. Good luck! read more

I was so excited when I found Kate as a Stats tutor! Concepts were really broken down, and she used a lot of real world examples, which helped me. She knew how to explain the material so that it made sense intuitively. I loved that math felt natural, and that I was comfortable with certain concepts more than before. Kate is truly the most amazing tutor you will find. I searched for weeks for someone to help me with a graduate school prep math class, and although there were many options, the people I talked with seemed difficult to relate to and even though they seemed intelligent, I didn't know if I could learn well from their style of teaching. Then...I found Kate. She not only knew all of the material that I had to learn, but was able to explain things in a way that I understood. She is extremely patient and actually made the material as interesting as possible. I would absolutely recommend her for GMAT prep, any college level or grad school math. Her background says it all but when you work with her you see that she is much more-it is her personality and ability to break concepts down that really make the difference. It was also very easy to schedule and communicate with her. read more
