BOLD color and clean line work defines the imagery adorning my arms and legs. Placement of the work flows with the body to highlight the details of awesome shading and creative color choices that make the images POP. Paul's hand moves quickly, making his large pieces come to the finish line ahead of schedule. The shop is clean and comfortable, making it worth the 3 hour drive from Madison on a rotating two/three week plan to make my works complete. Thanks again Paul for your dedication to your craft and art fullness. read more

We are actually finished with my back piece! Paul Dhuey has been my artist for years. It finally is finished. I've shown its progress at each tattoo shop he worked for. Now he is at Katana Tattoo, LLC. I am so pleased! He is an incredible artist, I trust him with my body. I wanted to post my back finished, I didn't want to post it under a shop he no longer works for. I have seen the work of the artist there and its amazing. I recommend Paul Dhuey to anyone, his technique is awesome, I can handle three hours at a time with him. He rules. He makes you feel really comfortable and relaxed. He has a way about him, and not only that he is incredible at what he does!! Paul really does take his time to ensure you get the best quality tattoo. My biggest concern was that is it went with the contour of my body, I didn't want to look like a block. He made sure there was fluidity. He listens and I trust him. I highly recommend Paul! This has been a work in progress since 2006, the color still looks great. Not only his tattooing is amazing, his art work is amazing as well. I bought a piece. Thank you Paul!! read more

So you want a tattoo? This shop sets the standard for fine work. There are great shops in the area but Katana has grown into something special. Want a large scale piece well conceived, positioned and proportioned? No one does it better than Paul. Whimsical, traditional or tribal? Micah has it dialed in. The new kid, Jonathan, brings a new dimension to portraits, dark themes and awesome depth. I've been under Paul's needle for years working on large scale pieces and his art is impeccable. He has a strong sense the art and will give you something you will never regret. If you want your first tat or want to add to your collection do yourself a favor and check this place out. read more

I've been getting work done by Paul for 20 years, and I cannot think of anyone else I trust as much when it comes to creative design and talent. I've not trusted my skin to anyone else, and would be hesitant to do so without his recommendation. His approach is one that I've not seen from many other artists - he considers future work into his design so that no one piece/image stands out as "odd" when an arm or leg is complete, even if it comes at the expense of not making a quick buck. Most importantly, he takes the time to ensure the image he is working on flows with existing tattoos and the shape of the body part he is inking. I also appreciate his honesty - he'll tell you if something isn't going to work in the big scheme of things, but in return he'll throw out one or more better ideas/designs as an alternative. I didn't realize I wanted a magician with a crystal ball on my outer left thigh until I saw the image he sketched - I couldn't be happier. Lastly, I've found that the inks he uses stand the test of time if you take necessary care with lotions and sunscreen. Some of the work he did in the late 90s still looks fresh on my left calf. Thanks Paul! read more

Decided to get my first tattoo for my 50th birthday, and I am so glad I went with Jon Gilbert at Katana Tattoo. Funny, professional, and incredibly talented, he was the perfect choice for this nervous old lady...LOL To be fair, it was a pretty big tattoo for my first. Only took a little over two hours, and I barely felt it, surprisingly. Already saving up for my next one. Thank you, Jon! read more

Impressed is an understatement with the quality of work from Jon Gilbert. He turned my specific vision into reality I love and am complimented on daily. In fact, I've trusted two very important pieces to him and he hasn't disappointed. I can't wait to bring him more work. read more

What a class act! Super impressed by the owner, the artist and the facility. I've been to a bunch of parlors all over the country and this might be my fav experience. I communicated my wants via email. He was super responsive. Took about 2 seconds to design my tattoo. Personable. Talented. And his partner is hilarious. I'll be back!! read more

So if you want a small unreadable piece of flash just to have a tattoo this is not the place for you. Katana is all about the best large, original scale tattoo artist around. Paul's aesthetic is pretty clear and his interactive communication style will make sure your work will stand up over time in terms of content and quality. His years of experience and endless research while creating the tattoo is remarkable. Personally I have three larger pieces and they approach flawless. Again this is not a shop for the thoughtless quicky ink job a kid would get in an altered state. Paul Dhuey is the consummate artist and professional. So if you want a tattoo that will stand up over time, be admired by all who see it Katana is the place to go. I have stopped by the shop on and off over the last few years developing ideas for more work and met customers of his from Europe, Canada and distant places around the US. These folks sought him out based on reviewing his work. When I first went to Katana I was not aware he has a national reputation for keeping large scale work in proper proportions. Well worth the trip just to look at his art and portfolio. read more

My favorite artists in Green Bay. Micah is a great guy to work with and can take ideas and run with them. Both artists have unique styles, and you know you're going to get top-notch work every visit. The space is great, extremely clean, and they're always listening to great music. I can't recommend this place enough. read more

A little over a year ago, I decided to get a large dragon tattoo which I started with a good local artist. After all of the line work was done, I decided that what I really wanted a full Japanese body suit and started looking for an artist to add a suit around the original dragon work. Living in Chicago, I thought I'd have to travel to the coasts to find someone specializing in large scale Japanese work, but was happily supprised when I found Katana Tattoo Studio, close by in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and the phenomenal work of Paul Dhuey. I contacted Paul and we spent some time discussing ideas before settling on a Four Guardians of the Compass theme. Due to the position I had requested for the dragon, working the other three Guardians in was a bit challenging, but I'm really happy with how it's worked out. I'm not artistic, so, for the most part, I've depended on Paul's skills and recommendations, and I have to say I could not be any happier. I love the work he's done and have received many, many compliments. I should also mention that the studio has a good vibe, is super clean, and a great Green Bay location. The other resident artist, Jonathan Gilbert, does exceptional portrait work. He's obviously not working on me (there's no more room!), but I get to see his work when I'm getting worked on - if you're looking for fine portrait or black and grey work, check out his portfolio. read more

Paul Dhuey is the best artist around...hands down. From the no pressure, honest consultation to the relaxing atmosphere in a great location there is no other place I will go to have work done. Definitely not your traditional tattoo shop covered in flash and catering to walk-ins and one off pieces picked from the wall. Katana Tattoo is an extremely professional studio for people that are serious about the art of tattooing. I have been a client of Paul's for the better part of 2 years now and the time I have put in there and the artwork done has been nothing short amazing. A one of kind artist. read more
