First of all, can we take a moment to truly appreciate the genius name of "Shear" Decadence? Genius. Secondly, let me give you context to this review. I've had my hair bleached and colored for a very dark brown to silver, blue, and blonde more than 10 times in the past 4 years in Los Angeles and Dubai. I love expressing myself with my hair color, usually outlandish, and my hair's health is the utmost priority. If you told me I'd find Kristen, Heather, and Liz's knowledge of coloring and bleaching a drive away from my mom's home town of Kilgore, TX, I'd think you didn't know what you were talking about. OK, context given, let's jump into the experience. I LOVE AUTOMATION. The salon is fully set up to take appointments online. There was a small hiccup in that I didn't find "coloring" in the online options, but it was sorted in a 5 minute call that was answered right away. Whoever answered was super sweet (maybe that's just me being new to Texas) and very clear in what was in store. I chose Kristen from the list after I checked her bio on the main website. The salon space itself is welcoming and super clean and super chic without being annoying. I was seen immediately by reception, and Kristen was ready. We spent about 10 minutes talking about what I intended and Kristen walked me through what might be different for me compared to the pictures I showed. I love how often Kristen checked in to how I was feeling as I do avoid asking for things because I'm just funny that way. She was very clear about what services she was starting that would cost more and she was ready for me to say no if I wanted. I never felt pressured and I felt very clear on what was going on. Once the bleaching was done, my hair color, as you can see from the photo, was complicated. There was such a nice vibe of teamwork as different people chimed in and it was really nice to see how open Kristen was to input, especially mine. When the agreed time was going to be extended just because that's life, I was told immediately when Kristen knew. I thought my hair was completely hopeless and it was not only broken at the ends and fried and super dry from the chemicals but it also had an orange-yellowish tint to it that no cover ups or toner could cover up or lift. Let me tell you, she was not only a savior in helping bring my hair back to life, but she also made it look amazing, feel super soft and manageable and brought it back to health completely. I live in Los Angeles, and we were excited about relaxing and being pampered for a bit. Despite the fact that the spa sits in the midst of a complex with hard-to-find addresses and absolutely no signage outside, we managed to locate the place and arrive on time. From the moment we entered, it was obvious that something was off. The reception area was empty, save for a lone masseuse who casually walked past us without making eye contact, and a receptionist who continued her phone conversation for ten minutes before bothering to look up--no greeting, no "I'll be with you in a moment", no smile, no nothing. Seemingly oblivious to our presence, along with the fact that we were now running into our appointment time, she chattered on. When at last she hung up the phone, she looked up and asked if we were there for appointments. We confirmed that we were, and she informed us that, unfortunately, there was a problem. She stated that there was only one masseuse present (apparently the one who had completely ignored us when we entered) because the other one doubled as a midwife and had left to deliver a baby. (You can't make this up!) When asked why we hadn't been notified before our arrival, she stated that they had tried unsuccessfully to reach my sister's phone. Given that it was my brother-in-law who actually made the appointments, we asked if they had called him. No, they hadn't. No reason. She went on to state our options: one of us could receive treatment as scheduled, or both of us could either return later in the afternoon or the following day. Neither option worked for us, so we left. To be clear, I understand that unpredictable things happen. However, the chilly reception, the blatant rudeness we were met with from the moment we walked in, and the failure to contact us ahead of time left a very bad taste in my mouth. I can think of many ways I would rather have kicked off my final day of vacation in beautiful Tyler, Texas. If you're looking for a spa that will honor its appointments and treat you with courtesy and respect, I suggest you look elsewhere.

I love the peaceful grounding vibes throughout the place from the different treatment rooms, cozy quiet space (waiting area), aromas, coffee and tea bar and serene music playing. I like how a robe and slippers are provided to relax in. It definitely has a very fancy vibe which I wasn't sure about at first, but the whole experience has been good! The stylist cut off six inches. I didn't catch it in the salon because I trust her, and she finished my hair in curls, so I assumed it looked shorter because of the styling. I later checked my hair length after the curls had fallen, then measuring to where my hair reached previously and found a six inch difference. A trim is one to two inches. My hair is also very healthy, so there were no damaged ends that would have justified removing that much. It will take me over a year to grow this back. I won't be returning.
