Amazing doctor who, I believe, saved my life. He was the o my doctor(after having a colonoscopy with another) who found my cancer.

I'm honestly shocked to see positive reviews here, because my experience with Dr. Deepa Shah was…read morethe complete opposite. For months I was under her care, and it was nothing short of frustrating and discouraging. From the beginning, she had poor bedside manner and made me feel like a burden whenever I expressed my concerns. We did multiple breath and stool tests, yet she still couldn't figure out what was wrong. Her "solution" was to tell me that everything came back negative, suggest I "eat healthier," and to call back if my symptoms continued. When I did reach out to explain that my pain was still consistent, she was dismissive, rude, and basically told me she couldn't help me anymore because I was "fine." Communication was a nightmare. It took weeks of phone tag just to get ahold of her, and when I finally did, she was impatient and short with me. On top of that, I received conflicting voicemails from her staff -- one receptionist even casually told me that I had IBS ! What !?! I still have the voicemail saved as proof. When I confronted Dr. Shah about this misinformation, she brushed it off and stumbled over her words instead of taking responsibility. The most shocking part was when she told me the only "next step" would be a colonoscopy, but then dismissed it, saying insurance likely wouldn't approve it since I was young and "didn't have the symptoms." I told her multiple times that I have family history of colon cancer (my grandmother passed away from it!!!) and yet she still acted like my concerns weren't valid. Colon cancer is rising among people in their 20s and 30s, and it was appalling to see her lack of empathy and ignorance. At the end of the day, I felt like just another number -- not a patient whose health and wellbeing mattered. I finally gave up and went to a naturopath. After ONE appointment, my naturopath ran a more advanced stool test (that Dr. Shah never ordered) and found that I have a severe bacterial overgrowth in my gut which is causing my gastro issues. Finally, I had answers -- and a treatment plan. My naturopath was shocked that a gastroenterologist at HonorHealth didn't look deeper.... Looking back, all the tests Dr. Shah ordered were too generic, repetitive, and ultimately a waste of time. She provided no solutions, no real plan, and no compassion. I would never recommend Dr. Deepa Shah to anyone seeking gastrointestinal care. If you've been dismissed by doctor after doctor and feel hopeless, please know there ARE providers who will actually listen and dig deeper to help you. Unfortunately, in my experience, Dr. Shah was not one of them.

This factors in to discussions when being asked about scheduling procedures. Say, a colonoscopy. I'll circle back to that. Now, I will say people were pleasant enough. I will also say absolutely NO ONE bothered to introduce themselves to me besides the actual physician I saw. They use an automated blood pressure cuff which I absolutely loathe because I find them to be wildly inaccurate & I can never feel my fingers. On occasion, my fingers even turn blue. But hey, who's looking at that. The doctor uses AI so for transcription during the appointment so he no longer has to dictate or write & somehow the AI technology knows to stop transcribing when not discussing medical issues. On one hand, that's great because it saves time for a lot of people. On the other hand, I loathe my voice being recorded & am not looking forward to the day when there is an inevitable security breach & my private conversations with the doctor become public along with everything else. But huzzah for technology I suppose. Back to the colonoscopy appointment. This is part of adulting. Routine checks are good to make sure no polyps or cancer. I ask the doctor very specifically, is this going to be an issue because I am single & have no one to drive me or care for me. I am assured it's not an issue. People use Uber/Lyft/taxi all the time. Appointment set. Then I'm directed to the website to complete my information for the colonoscopy appointment & am met with the inevitable "You MUST have a responsible person drive you and care for you for 24 hours after the procedure". I call the endoscopy place where the appointment is & am told "it's fine, you just have to stay here until anesthesia wears off & then we'll call to check on you." Ok, but your policies & waiver say differently. Response, "no, it's fine, I can have the charge nurse call you when she's not in a room, & she'll tell you the same thing." Hours go by & no call. I call the doctors office & they also say it's fine. No, it is not fine. I'm being told to falsify documents because you verbally tell me it's ok that I don't have someone with me that I MUST have someone to care for me 24 hours after the procedure. Make it make sense. Why are you written documents, policies, & waivers saying one thing & you verbally tell me something else? I'm told someone will call me back. No call back. I call to cancel & I'm told I need to give a reason why. Here is my reason: "you are discriminating against single people." Response, "we would never..." you're right, you gave me a choice of falsifying waivers & other legal documents based on your verbal (contrary to the written word) that it would be fine to do what I needed to or I MUST impose on someone else." Thank you. Thank you for reminding me that being single can cost me medical care. Thank you for reminding me that if I falsify documents, it will be ok except for that one time it won't be but because I signed a waiver, I have no one to blame but myself. Thank you for making it abundantly clear that people who choose to be single must do without and must go without medical care because really, they're single, so who cares anyways?
