They're incredibly well stocked and knowledgable with produce from all corners of the world. They're not poncey or crazily overpriced (I'm talking about you Meat N16). They're welcoming and encouraging and they've inspired me to try cooking all sorts of bigger cuts of meat as well as answering all my novice questions. We've made rabbit ragu with meat from Baldwins as well as squab pigeon with cherry sauce, herb crusted lamb, Sunday beef joints, lamb shoulder rogan josh, duck liver pate, turkey mole (with a whole jointed turkey which served an entire Mexican Christmas party) and baby back ribs to serve 7. We had to buy an especially big pan for those. They also sell cheap organic free range eggs, award winning manchego cheese, loads of delicious looking Parma hams and chorizo as well as good store cupboard essentials (the tomato purée in the red tin with the swan on is lovely) and special treats like panettone. Made it acceptable so we don't have to think about the fact that this tasty lamb chop was once baaaing, bleeting and bouncing around a field. Everything is spotlessly clean and the butchers are clean cut with shiny shoes. The meat is hanging behind a glass sliding doors and at the front window the meat is laid out like an artistic mosaic of cuts. You can tells it's still a butchers though, the doggies of Stokie can confirm. As they walk past, their leads pull and noses dampen with excitement. They have a small selection of cheese and drinks and at the back they have a great wine room. It's all set up for tastings so it'll be great to see what they decide to do events wise over the next few months. There is a large outside space so if they use that, this will be a bit of a foodie mecca. I love the fact that the wine is split up so you can pair it easily with your meats. Pork, lamb, beef or chicken - how cool is that!?

The selection varies but they always have good quality minced beef. I have used the minced beef often for BBQs and meatloaf and it turns out wonderfully. The shop is a bit on the grungy side but the butchers are very friendly and are apologetic if they don't have something I'd like. The meat I have purchased has been well priced. That and the convenience of being just around the corner keep me going back to Guzel Kasap.

The staff reflect the ethnic diversity of the area and there is little staff turnover which always indicates the business has a genuine positive ethos and that it is a good and fair employer. It's a busy shop and yet you don't have to wait long. Whatever, its always worth it. If you need advice with how to cook the meat they are always willing to help. If you believe in supporting local business with a low carbon footprint then support this local butcher.

The black bacon is particularly good and you can pick up lots and lots of deep yellow yolked eggs. The man and wife (I assume) team in here run a great shop - they know a lot, their meat is very good quality indeed. My absolute go-to place from now on.
