When I asked about Reiki, she explained to me that whatever it is we need is within us, that it doesn't come from her, that she just holds the space to help us heal ourselves. She said that our energy can get blocked for lots of different reasons, and we don't feel grounded, or balanced, or centred. Reiki helps to unblock our energy. There's no airy fairy stuff, no bells and whistles, she doesn't make claims or promises, she's just there with you 100 % for the 45 minutes. She seems to know where your aches and pains are, but doesn't make a big deal about it, she just gently places her hands there. She said that energy flows to where its needed, and it's not always where we think we need it. Sometimes its physical, sometimes emotional, sometimes spiritual. She doesn't diagnose or give advice, because she says thats not her place, her place is just to be there with you, and allow the energy to flow. Sometimes during a session it's been like being in a warm bath of love, sometimes a lot of stuff has come to the surface and I've just laid there crying, sometimes I felt really cold and shivered, other times where she placed her hand felt really cold or really warm. She says these things might happen but she doesn't take much notice or make a big deal, she just lets the energy flow and whatever happens is what needs to happen. Nothing seems to phase Karen, so no matter what your issues are don't hesitate to see her. She has worked for many years in medical fields including psychiatry and palliative care. They also have a good selection of oils, candles and interesting artwork in the fairy, gothic, and dragon realms. Its my favorite shop in Picton now and the shopkeeper was a pleasant lass.
