I can't say enough good things about my experience at The Music Shop, and especially about my…read moreinstructor, Dave Wheeler. I'm a 72-year-old saxophonist who picked up the saxophone for the very first time after retiring from a 40-year career in biochemistry spanning academia and research. So yes, I came in knowing enzymes better than eighth notes. Dave has been an absolute gift. He brings a deep well of music theory knowledge, practical musicianship, and real-world experience to every lesson. More importantly, he has remarkable patience and creativity. He listens carefully, identifies where I'm struggling, and then designs clear, effective strategies that make practice both productive and enjoyable between lessons. What I especially value is that Dave doesn't teach from a script. He adapts to the student in front of him--age, background, learning style, and goals included. Thanks to his guidance, I've made steady progress, gained confidence, and genuinely look forward to practicing and improving. If you're considering lessons at The Music Shop -- whether you're 08 or 78 -- I can't recommend Dave Wheeler highly enough. He's the real deal. -- Michael Van Allen, student https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelavanallen/

I'm sharing my experience to help others make an informed decision…read more I brought in a ~1-year-old student flute (purchased on the West Coast) for what I now know were minor adjustments. At the time, I followed the technician's recommendation for a full COA. When the instrument was returned, it played essentially the same as when I dropped it off. I brought it back a second time. It came back slightly improved, but still not properly adjusted. A few weeks later, I visited an independent flute technician in Brooklyn. He immediately identified the issues, charged nearly half the cost, spent over an hour on the instrument, and fixed it correctly. It has remained in excellent playing condition since. Based on this experience, I would not return here for service or purchase. I would strongly encourage others especially parents of student players to seek a second opinions and verify the quality of work.

New York Piano City - Bait and switch. Promised that $75 to perform 1 hour of piano tuning. Showed up and demanded for $170 for only 30 minutes of service.

One of the most unethical guys out there scamming customers. When my wife called Mr. Xu for a piano…read moretune up, he said that the fee would be $85. After he came to our house, he made up all different excuses that my piano was old and unserviceable because it hasn't been tuned in years. He demanded $170 from my wife. Since I was not home, my wife obliged, paying him double the amount of what Mr. Xu had agreed on the phone. This is gross and disgusting for people like Mr. Xu to make customer morally committed and shell out double amount of the agreed upon quote. We would have been okay if he indicated on the phone that $85 for piano that has been regularly serviced and for 30 minutes of tuning. In the end, he only spent 30 minutes and still charged us $170 because we have an old piano. Typical bait and switch and I would strongly urge people to stay away from this shop. When I called him and trying to get to the bottom of the story, he screamed at me and saying that I do not know what I am talking about. Nice try, $170 for a 30 minutes of tuning and storytelling.

OK I am a very picky customer, I admit it. I have OCD and I can't help it. But my experience with…read moreNew York Piano City has been wonderful. I found one little imperfection (a small scratch) on my piano after it was delivered, I wasn't sure it was from my dog or the movers. I called the store and ask if they can do anything about it. (I really wasn't hoping for any compensation as I purchased the piano 3 weeks after I found that little scratch). Not only that they send over a technician to check the piano right away, they also offered different discount options for me to choose from. THEY ARE AMAZING
