After having one botched experience in Berlin, this place really made me feel good! Sacha, who gave…read moreme a checkup, was a pro, spoke English perfectly (he spent time studying at UC Los Angeles), and made me feel at ease. The previous dentist I'd seen a few weeks earlier tried to get me to sign off on expensive cavity repairs, and Sacha told me I did not in fact have any cavities. This was what I was expecting, as I had good care in the USA before moving here and haven't had many problems before. I got a cleaning (the prices were reasonable, which was important to me as my insurance didn't cover it) from Christiane Braun, who was also a real pro. Two thumbs up, five stars, I recommend Sacha to anyone looking for a dentist in Berlin! They also accepted my European Health Insurance card for the checkup, which was a big plus.

Of course, I am lazy when…read moreit comes to flossing and I know there will be that inevitable lecture about how I need to do it more often, but I have been able to live a few decades of my life being OK with that. Yet when it comes to a dentist in Germany, there was admittedly a bit of angst. I was nervous about the language barrier for one, and also, seeing as I went from a twice-a-year dentist-goer to not having been in nearly five, I was anxious to see how bad things had gotten. Good news though: at this office, everything was good. I showed up and the people in the office were friendly, the receptionist explaining a couple terms I didn't understand on my questionnaire. The cleaning itself was brutal, but that was to be expected. The lecture on flossing was also there, but it (at least for now) has inspired me to floss daily. I also have a check-up in two weeks, so I want to do my homework... I didn't actually meet with or see Dr. Akdeniz - I am assuming that happens next time I go in? I chose him specifically for proximity and rumors that he speaks English, but even so, I survived my interactions with the dental hygienist in German just fine, so... I only have two complaints, the first being that I had to wait a good 30+ minutes past my appointment time, in the lobby, waiting to be seen. But I understand appointments can back up, and this seems to be the quintessential doctor experience for me anyway. The other is that the patient bathroom has a toilet with no actual seat... there's the cold porcelain, but nothing over that, which I found weird and kind of gross. Next time I will just have to remind myself to go at home first.

No matter what issues you might have, they guys there will look after you very well. Nihad chief dentist has impeccable English and was very straightforward to deal with, very honest, with a good sense of humour too. The practice is spotlessly clean but also quite impersonal too with nice relaxing waiting area. An excellent resource to have, particularly for expats in Kreuzberg/Neukölln area and this place certainly makes visiting the dentist a much more pleasant experience!!
