This office billed my medical insurance almost 3x what the original written estimate was and got paid their agreed contracted rate through my medical. This turned out to be approx what original estimate was. The only outstanding payment due from us was a small copay of 45.00. They told me medical would take care of it all but the copay and any applicable deductible (but we didn't have a deductible)., BUT then they went and billed my dental insurance ABOVE and BEYOND their agreed contracted rate which exhausted my dental benefit for the year! Now I have no dental benefits left. I find this to be a real dirty way to run a business. Be very careful of their business practices ! If you have medical insurance that covers oral surgery ... DO NOT give them your dental insurance information. They will bill both to get as much money as they can despite what their original estimate was. We liked the doctor's bedside manner and had good recovery but would not recommend this office because of their business / billing practices read more

We went to Dr. Berty to have my son's wisdom teeth extracted after reading reviews. I must say that we extremely pleased with our experience. He is very professional, has a very nice manner, explains things thoroughly and leaves time for any questions you may have. Following the procedure, he welcomed our questions, along with my son's. I would highly recommend Dr. Berty as an oral surgeon to anyone. Recently my 19 year old son's dentist suggested we have a panoramic of his teeth done; it clearly showed the wisdom teeth needed to come out. My son has a mind altering fear of needles accompanied by a condition called Convulsive Syncope (when he is stressed or traumatized his blood vessels constrict and it slows the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain which causes him to pass out and convulse). Round 1 of the extraction, one hour passed and Dr. Berty calls me into the room. My son still has his wisdom teeth. 3 attempts to get the needle in for the IV fluids; all 3 attempts successful but no IV fluids are able to flow as my son's veins have collapsed due to nerves, stress and fear. Another note; my son has no visible veins anywhere on the surface of his skin so knowing where they are and how to find them is key to accessing them at all!! Also, the laughing gas, which my son has never had before, has made him feel like he's having a syncope episode and he's going to pass out. Dr. Berty can see it coming and stops everything, immediately pulls the laughing gas off and puts the oxygen on. Dr. Berty says once year he experiences the collapsed vein issue. He is very compassionate and understands my son's fears and feelings and acknowledges they are true and real feelings and fears. He said my son did great but at this point he doesn't want to push the issue further. Dr. Berty says he will re-arrange his schedule to fit my son in the next day. He suggests hydrating more in the hope it will help. That evening Dr. Berty himself called me to confirm the appointment for the next morning and to check on my son to make sure he was OK. I was impressed, how many doctors these days pick up the phone and call!! The next morning we got to the office. They took my son in and 40 mins later they were off and running. They finally found a vein in his hand that had not collapsed and were able to get the IV flowing. Wisdom tooth extraction complete. The entire office took such good care of my son and I really appreciate the time, concern and caring they showed him. Honest words from my son, even though he was still fearful, it was the most trusting he has felt letting anyone try to put a needle in him!! Dr. Berty called us that evening to check on my son, to make sure everything was OK and gave us his cell phone number to reach him directly if we had any issues. He has a great way about him and makes you very comfortable. His staff is fantastic. Third time we have been to see him and I like him more each time I go back. My daughter had oral surgery this morning - and she was not an easy client for Dr Bertie. Not because she was tough - but because her body wasn't cooperating and her mouth would not get numb! Unfortunately my husband has the same issue with local anesthesia. But Dr Bertie did not give up on preventing her from going under general anesthesia - and he was patient, kind and very reassuring towards my daughter. She trusted him completely, and ended up having what could have been a very tumultous and terrifying experience (I've heard horror stories from friends who have children whos dentists were cruel or impatient, causing all sorts of "dental/oral anxieties!!) into the positive experience we were encouraging her to believe it would be. Listen, no one likes to have oral surgery - but if it doesn't have to be traumatic - even better! I highly recommend Dr Bertie to anyone who has children. You can tell he is a Dad by his kind demeanor, and while he's friendly and nice - he treats the kids with respect as if they're adults -- keeps them involved in the process by talking to them and informing them of what's going on - rather than talking "around" them. Additionally, his staff who assisted - were lovely. I know this, because I was in the room holding my daughters hand and watched the procedure. :) Overall, a positive experience - and if I or anyone in my family are ever in need of his care again - I would go in a heartbeat. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Berty and his team. I'm a father of 5 who lives in Andover not far from his office. I've had horrible tooth pain the last couple months. My wife had heart surgery back in February and had some complications, so I was busy juggling work, the house, kids, soccer games and practices, being with her at hospital, etc. My tooth pain was secondary.....Until it wasn't. It finally got so Bad that my wife called around to many places. Dr. Berty's office was able to squeeze me in following day. I went in thinking I'd be put under. Miscommunication between my wife and I that I realized while sitting in his chair. I almost walked out I was so nervous. His staff were so comforting and reassuring that I stayed. So glad I did. Dr. Berty further reassured me when he came in and was so kind. I felt no pain, nothing. It was infected and lucky I came in. I went home feeling so relieved that I went. Reason I'm writing this is because he actually just called me 30 minutes ago. That was suprising and above and beyond. He wanted to check on me and make sure I was feeling ok and not in any discomfort. Gave me his personal cell number and said he wants all his patients to be able to reach him directly after any procedure. Amazing. He is the best. I thank him and my kids thank him even more because for the first time these last few weeks, daddy isn't grumpy and in pain any more. read more

I would highly recommend Dr. Berty. I had an implant done by him and it was a success. As mentioned in other reviews, Dr. Berty calls you himself to check up on you. I have another tooth that my dentist has been pushing for me to extract. Dr. Berty was honest and told me to try and preserve the tooth as long as I could because it has not failed me. After enduring several days of confusion and non-responsiveness from the office regarding our surgery appointment and request for cost estimate, we had given up. Then Dr. Berty himself called to explain and apologize for all the inconvenience, which was related to some massive failures in transitioning to a new computer system. I am EXTREMELY afraid of dentist and even more afraid to be knocked out. Dr. Berty and his staff were professional, competent understanding and compassionate. I went into his office without an appt and never having been a previous patient. He saw that I was in pain and made room in his day to see me, gave me meds and set up an appt to have my tooth extracted. Believe it or not the extraction was actually PAINLESS as was my recovery and Dr. Berty called me the evening of my extraction and gave me his personal cell phone number in case I had any pain or complications. My initial visit with Dr Berty was on a emergency basis as I had a cyst formed in my mouth 5 days after having 3 teeth pulled by Dr Iam Turner in North Andover, Ma. When I called Dr Turner he was not available and the office gave me an emergency number for Dr Berty. It was a Saturday night and the cyst was huge, I could not talk and was in horrible pain. I called Dr Berty at 10:30pm and asked if I could come in Sunday morning and have something done. He agreed to see me first thing Sunday morning at 8:00AM. Ten minutes later I get a call and he asked if I wanted to come in now, Saturday night at 11:00PM and I am not an existing patient. My wife took me immediately and he drained the infection and said the reason he called me back is that he became concern the cyst might burst and spread infection through my system. The 3 teeth I had pulled by Dr Turner were to be replaced by him with implants. He had done 7 implants for me before, 2 were do overs as the original bone transplant did not hold up and the implants were coming loose. Pulling out existing implants is probably the hardest extraction one will ever have as the teeth are put in to never come out. Well, after having 2 implants redone and then having an infection from pulling out 3 more teeth by Dr Turner, decided to not use him ever again. I sent Dr Turner a letter explaining why I would not be using his services anymore. Was disappointed hearing no response from Dr Turner's office after using his services for 7 years and spending over $25,000. I believe the reason for the cyst infection was that after the extraction Dr Turner stitched up the gums instead of putting in a shunt to let it drain of any infection. With no drainage an infection formed and became a huge cyst. Needless to say I had Dr Berty install the 2 implants where the 3 teeth were pulled. I could not believe the difference in how Dr Berty works compared to Dr Turner. Dr Turner can be a bit rough, especially pulling teeth. Well, I need to have another tooth pulled, an eye tooth, and will need an implant so time to call Dr Berty for an appointment. Almost forgot, after completing the 2 implants, Dr Berty gave me three prescriptions, one for pain, one for infection and a freezer bag with a half gallon of ice cream to take whenever I want. It does not get any better than that. read more

I am not a regular Yelper, but I felt compelled to log on and rave about our recent experience with Dr. Karim Berty. My 15 year old son, who has autism, needed an impacted tooth surgically extracted. It was determined that it would be best to complete the procedure in the hospital under general anesthesia. Dr. Berty was exceptional on all counts before, during and after my son's procedure. Not only did he patiently and thoroughly answer all our questions, but he also provided me with his cell phone number and encouraged me to call him regardless of the time of day or night should the need arise. He stayed with my son in the OR after completing the surgery and even accompanied him to the recovery area where he remained until he spoke to both me and my husband in detail about the surgery. Most noteworthy was his willingness to let me bring my son to his office (on his day off!) for a quick look in his mouth to be sure all was well heading into a long holiday weekend despite our having a scheduled follow-up with him a few days later.
