Upon walking inside you at first feel like it might be only a bar, but as you turn to the right you see a dance space big enough for about maybe fourty people. On the other side you see tables with mostly groups of people who already know each other sitting at the 4 person table which some have been pulled together making them longer. Most of these people didnt really start dancing immediately, but when they did, everyone danced. No cover at the door, but we were EARLY :)). From all i can tell this club is what they call tejano,I guess for the live bands which sometimes play there more spanish than english, but i didnt hear to much spanish music the night i went. They have large round picnic tables, high bistro type tables, and a bar seating area. The bistro tables have very uncomfortable chairs. They are those small metal stackable chairs. Some have backs and others have no backs. Even the tiniest butts would not find those seats comfortable. I stood for the majority of the time. Dollar bills are stapled to the wall and ceiling from previous customers each with a saying, a name, and/or the date. They have one unisex restroom downstairs. There was a line each time I needed to go. The crowd seemed to be locals and people who work there and recently got off their shift. I think that is pretty common in these type beach bars. The energy was happy and everyone was nice. They play great music. During our stay, I heard Elvis (twice!), ABBA, Willie Nelson, other 70's artists, and some country. They also have live music. We left before the set started because we had to get home to Houston. The service was good. Our waitress was very attentive. We had the ceviche and shrimp Jammers to split. The Jammers are fried with gooey goodness inside. 5 Jammers to an order. They are really good, so I highly recommend those. The ceviche was refreshing. It came with tortilla chips and a large slice of avocado. They have very good drinks, plus whatever you might like bottled. The two of us each had two drinks. There was a wide range of ages on a Friday night when we were there. My group had a range of 49-55 years old and we fit in comfortably. There were a few older but mostly younger than us. However, we did not feel out of place given the age mix. Kicks does have a strict dress code. It seems to be enforced because I did not see anyone dressed in a way that broke the dress code. Make sure you read their website on the dress code. The dress code includes both women and men. It also includes a ban on pocket knives of all kinds. There is live music Thurs-Sun. The sign on the door says the doors open at 8PM and entry is not allowed after 1:30AM. The band that was there when we were there played three sets. During their breaks, the dance floor was still packed while music from current country hits were piped through the speakers. There was a good mix of couples and line dancing. The floor can get really crowded but fun was still had by all. Security seemed to be present and aware at all times. I was pleasantly surprised with the lack of heavy smoke. The smoke seemed to be much heavier in the pool table area but I did not venture to the back to see that area. The dance portion of the club seemed to be relatively smoke-free. I did not see anyone smoking in the dance area. I'm not sure if it isn't allowed or if it was just coincidence on this night.
