I had Masala Dosa, and tilapia cooked in a banana leaf. The flavors were incredible. The service fast, friendly and willing to suggest if you are not sure what to pick. I've been to Kayal a couple of times now and been mightily impressed each time…read more The cuisine is from the Keralan region of India and its excellent quality and unique flavours have seen the restaurateurs play host to both the Hairy Bikers and Gordon Ramsey. The restaurant is larger than you first think as it extends on two floors into the back, but its always advisable to book as its full most evenings (weekends at least). The first time i visited i ordered the Thali which comes as a 3 course meal (which a thali main) and then on my second visit i ordered one of the richest most delicious indian lamb dishes i've ever had. You cant go wrong as every dish on offer is delicious! The only difficulty we had was understanding the layout of the menu. Its a little difficult to navigate, so i recommend taking a quick look on the simplified board outside first.

There are three Indian…read morerestaurants in Alfreton, and while the other two are ok, Mumbai Masala beats them hands down in my opinion. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming, the atmosphere and decor is lovely, we never feel rushed, and the food is absolutely mouth watering! I should also mention that Mumbai Masala is an award winning restaurant - and it is highly deserved. The prices are also very reasonable! If you have never visited Mumbai Masala, I would highly recommend that you give it go.....I can guarantee you'll be back!

All the food is made fresh to order from the best ingredients. The owner Farooq will invite you to look at the kitchens and they are very clean. He has a fully computerised ordering system that makes sure the drivers know exactly where they are delivering the food and it always comes piping hot. The quality of the food is excellent however most main means especially the house specialities do tend to be on the hot & spice side so if you prefer a milder curry it is best that you say so when ordering. I've tried a lot of other Indian takeaways over the years and none have been as authentic or delicious as Spice takeaway.

Amazingly friendly (almost personal) service, extensive menu of classic dishes and exquisite chef's specials in a relaxed, old fashioned atmosphere. Can be a little pricey compared to some others, but once you've tried it, and if you appreciate good Indian food, it doesn't get much better than this. Regulars have been coming back for 20 years. Tandoori chicken on the bone starter is to die for. Lamb dishes are sublime and the meat falls apart with delicate flavouring. Not a place for super-hot lager swilling louts. If you want to appreciate the flavour and texture, this is it.

The menu is not huge, but there is certainly a wide enough choice. Portions are very generous, and this is one of very places that are not stingey when it comes to dishing out the rice. It's not the cheapest place going, but you really do get your money's worth. I highly recommend this place, beats most of the trendy Indian's in the area hands down, and without the pretetious decor.
