i took my car to this repair shop on 04/06/16. I told him that my check engine light was flashing and I needed him to check it for me. They called me back and told me that my catalytic converters were bad and they needed to be replaced at the price of $600 plus tax. I specifically asked if this would fix my issue, the person told me yes. So reluctantly I agreed. I then started to do some research about the converters and found out that the reason they go bad is because something is causing them to, which is likely a misfire. Well someone previous clear my board so my check engine light was not on when I took the vehicle to this shop, which wasn't mentioned to be an issue at. So they called me shortly afterwards and told me that my car was fixed. I left work early to pick it up. When I arrived there, I paid him. I then also asked again about what could be causing the converters to go bad because I read that if that issue isn't fixed then I will have to buy converters again. He then said that he would check the car with his machine and put it on a small computer and said that cylinder 1 was misfiring. I asked if he fixed them, he said yes. Well to me if that is the issue then it should have been repaired when I asked him to fix the car. The owner Mark, then told me to drive the car until the check engine light comes back on, which is extremely odd to me, but I did. And I ended up calling back 30 minutes later and telling him that something was wrong and he assured me that I needed to have that light on before they could help me. I could not drive the car any longer because I felt mislead #1 because I asked him to repair the car and he could not because he actually needed that check engine light to come on as he exclaimed, which was not told to me prior to me pay $650. #2 i called several times throughout the day and he told me to keep driving it even though it was faulty. Had this company told me that there is a separate issue that would cause the car to continue to malfunction i would not have paid $650 for the repair because in the end the car IS NOT FIXED! I took the car back to this shop on the same day and left the key. he called me today about 2 and told me that he has been driving my car around all day and they it is running fine to him. *(however we know that something isn't fine and he hasn't replaced the actual problem because he claims I have to get the check engine light on again.) I spoke with Mark and advised him that i was not happy with the services and asked that he remove the pieces and do a refund. He has since refused and told me that this is a first for him and that he can't understand why I'm not happy with the service. He is refusing to refund any of my money therefore forcing this issue to court. This may be a very specific issue, but if in fact his company has been around since 1979 then the courteous thing to do is to be up front with the customers. Had he alerted me prior to fixing the car for 650 dollars that it wouldn't resolve the issue, i would have waited to complete the repair because $650 is hard to come by especially knowing that at any moment the car will break down. read more
