We love a country museum and our daughter is just coming to the age where she's enjoying actually looking at the stuff (not that she knows what it is but that's a later age haha)
Kapunda museum is set in the old baptist church which is a really large imposing building with gorgeous detailing.
When you enter the volunteers are happy to talk to you for ages and they know so much about the town and its history. I would just go talk to them to learn if I could!
There is a huge room full of old clothes, telephones, parts of the mining history etc. It even has parts of the old church in an exhibit. There are two rooms at the back, one showing an old bedroom setup and one showing an old dining room setup. If you continue out through the dining room you come across a twisty staircase down to the cellar which is choc a block full of medical/army/farming history.
Everything is painstakingly and lovingly labelled by the volunteers and if you are interested in something they are more than happy to fill you in.
Out the back is farm equipment and to my excitement - stationary engines which whipped me back to my childhood in England attending stationary engine rallies.
With entry you gain entry to an interpretive centre next door called bagots fortune but we didn't get time to visit this time.
$5 entry fee spent well and you get a free postcard! read more
