Kaplan misrepresented twice on the phone that the classes are suitable for kids who get extended time on the SAT. They are not. They do offer accommodations but only through a special form that they did not offer us until the class started. Phone reps are compensated on a commission basis, which in retrospect explains a lot. It takes several weeks to process an accommodation request by which time the class would have been complete, and in any case it was clear to my son that no meaningful accommodation is possible within the class. My son attended two classes and the initial test diagnostic (which despite our phone conversations on this did not include extended time) which we thought would fall within the 2-class guarantee -- it turns out the initial test counts as a "class" and they are offering zero refund. We are now disputing the charges for the class with our credit card company. I am shocked at the bureaucracy and lack of customer service within the national organization. The local teachers may (or may not) be fine (it depends who you get -- they seem to train an ever-revolving group of college students). Overall, for the price, I think any students (those who need accomodations and those who don't) will be better off by hiring one of the many local tutors who do one-on-one teaching (some of these people are former Kaplan teachers). read more
