It was time to have my driveway replaced, and I have a large driveway. From Brenda to Jason to all who performed the work it was 5-Stars. The team was helpful from beginning (obtaining the village permit) to end (repairing some cracked tiles). The driveway looks great (a Unilock neighbor commented he did the wrong thing!) and any time I need re-sealing or anything else, the promptly respond. Terrible have been trying to get them to do a job for 3 months! Always an excuse, always no action! They are a very confused, dysfunctional company that does not seem to care one bit about their customers. I would find another vendor! I agree wholeheartedly with all of the other one star reviews. This company should not be in business . They have no skills regarding paving or customer service. I would never ever use them again. My driveway was cracking and rising in some places and settling in other places within two years. It puddles in several places after each rain. Edited 10/2016: We've developed two large cracks in the driveway and also wanted to hire Kaplan to seal coat it. We were scheduled for 10 days ago, no one showed up. After at least 10 calls and voicemails to the office I'm about to give up with them. They never answer the phone and never seem to return voicemails either. Changing this from a 5 star review to a 1 star, would not recommend them anymore based on this service. Written 5/2016: Kaplan did a great job on our driveway. They always had a supervisor on location and the crew was very polite and extremely clean. We had to reschedule a few times and they were extremely patient with that. Price was very reasonable as well. All in all a really great experience thank you for the new driveway! read more

Had them out to pave part of our driveway ($2,000) and a year later it was falling apart. It was very difficult to arrange for someone to come out to inspect the driveway. I made repeated calls but had no follow up. Someone finally came out several weeks later and he agreed that they would replace it for no charge. He said it could have been a bad batch or completed on a cold day. Asked for an estimate to extend the area they worked on and have still not heard from them two weeks later. They claim to provide great Service but it was never evident on our job. Will look elsewhere once they fix their poor original install. read more

I wish I would have read the reviews first. We confirmed a date for service when we would be out of town for a couple of days. They confirmed by phone that service was done and what day we could drive on driveway. We came home and nothing was done. We have left numerous messages and someone is always "busy" We paid in full which was a mistake. I would give zero stars if I could. I'm surprised by negative reviews I have read for Kaplan. We had a basic driveway removal and replacement. I had a very positive experience with them: timely, professional, great job, great follow up. Of the 3 bids I had for this job, Kaplan was the lowest. I had several quotes for removing my broken concrete driveway and paving with asphalt. They were all around the same price, but Kaplan offered financing, so I went with them. The driveway is now complete and has passed the Village inspection. The work is excellent - the transition into the garage and across sidewalk to the apron are seamless. My biggest challenge by far was communication. From mis-information from the estimator that required multiple visits to a major lack of responsiveness from the office staff, the whole experience was incredibly frustrating. As I say, I have a lovely new driveway, but it was a major headache getting there. The office staff didn't return calls or respond to emails promptly (or at all), I received inconsistent information (the email I received the night before the work began was for commercial parking lots, rather than a private driveway), and I had to call way too many times to follow up on things (and then still ended up calling the Village on several things because Kaplan never followed up as they told me they would). Billy, who came out to do the final inspection, was a bright spot in all this, and he explained and clarified many issues, but I've made my own notes to call to schedule sealing in the spring because I have no faith the office staff will call me. read more

Kaplan Paving has excellent workers who really know how to do a first rate job. Both crews, the crew that took the old driveway out and the other crew that put the new driveway in did excellent work. I also appreciate that the utilities were called and the city was coordinated with regarding inspections. Am very happy with the final result. read more

Kaplan was our 5th quote for the driveway, and they were the only company to give us a good solution to our concern of water runoff from neighboring homes, erosion and correcting the steep grade. From the initial phone call to request a quote, they were quick to respond with a quotation, good followup on installation days, great work, the workers worked together efficiently we could tell they were professionals, and the followup a week later on how to care for the drive. The drive is beautiful, the water runs off nicely and the grade has been corrected. Kaplan deserves 5+ stars for this project. read more

We had Kaplan Paving replace our existing asphalt driveway and add a spot for a third car next to the garage. After reaching out to many paving companies online, they were one of the first to respond. After having someone come out to provide us a quote, there pricing was very competitive. During the process of getting some questions answered, and discussing some changes I wanted made to our project, I got some wrong information, that was later corected, and everything was made right. I think they are a busy company, and sometimes internal communication suffers. We had a pretty tight budget, but they helped us stay within in, while getting everything we wanted from our new driveway. After coming out and doing the work, I am very pleased with the finished product and the crew's that came out. One edge isn't perfectly straight, but it's not the end of the world. Once the grass grows back in it will be far less noticable. The work was done only about a month ago and so far so good, but time will tell how well the new surface holds up. read more

Decided to give them a try after receiving an offer in the mail. Despite agreeing to the price QUOTED IN THE MAILING, I was called on my way to work the day they were supposed to pave by an obnoxious receptionist who informed me that the price would now be 50% HIGHER. When I asked her why, she wouldn't response and instead kept repeating "Yes, or no. I can't have the crew waiting around. Yes or No" Horrible bait n switch tactics. Buyer Beware! read more

The crew did an AWESOME job laying our driveway. Communication with the office/scheduling people was a whole different story! The sales guy said scheduling was about 3 weeks out (weather permitting)....it took FIVE weeks to get ours completed, during one of the DRIEST Junes in recent memory. I started making calls after 3-1/2 weeks, which was mostly a joke. When the rip-out was FINALLY scheduled, AND when the lay-down was FINALLY scheduled, we asked (BEGGED) to get a phone call when the crew was on their way, so we wouldn't have to miss days of work WAITING for crews who may not even come until the end of the day....that was apparently too much to ask for because we did NOT get a call EITHER time. We will have Kaplan do the first sealcoating, to extend the warranty to 3 years, but I hope they do a better job for us than they did for a BUNCH of other people who wrote reviews. read more

Kaplan paving did a nice job on replacing our crumbling driveway. The finished product looks great. The phone/email communication was a little slow. We had some minor damage during the installation which was resolved without issue. Overall highly satisfied. read more

We had our gravel driveway graded and asphalted by Kaplan. True, the scheduling had some unexpected delays but we are happy with the workmanship. The price was fair also. read more

They admitted that their work was inadequate after numerous calls to have them return to inspect the asphalt paving of driveway. Promptly paid the $2,000+, however, it took a dozen calls and over two months for them to return to inspect, all to no avail. Driveway still has cracks and crumbling. We even did the recommended sealing with the company in order to maintain the "warranty". Clearly, would not recommend unless you want bitter and painful disappointment. Also, they were very dismissive on the phone when calling to inquire about the project. read more

They worked as a subcontractor for a usual contractor. They did not conform to the guidelines of the proposal in terms of supports while the asphalt was curing, and the driveway shows it. It will not last the winter before the edges crumble. Total waste of money. read more

Paved driveway in July, 2015. By spring of 2016, many cracks appeared. I called them and they came out and inspected the driveway in early June. They said the materials were defective and that they would tear out the driveway and replace it. After some delays and a lack of communication, an excellent crew came out and did an outstanding job. The old pavement was removed and the roadbed was rolled flat. Then the new pavement was applied. They smoothed the pavement, creating the proper slope, and matching the level of the driveway to the walkway and patio. I am very happy with the result. They stand behind their work. Just keep their phone number handy and if they don't call you for the scheduling, call them. read more

Kaplan does a fantastic professional job! They put in a new driveway for me, complete with building up the surface so it would drain properly away from the house and yard. They also did a seal coating for me this year, 1 year after putting in the new drive. All my neighbors have commented on how beautiful it looks and what a great improvement it is to my property. After Reading all the other one star reviews I can help clarify where some of the problems may be. One major problem is that Kaplan paving is not owned by Ernie Kaplan anymore. Kaplan Paving was bought out by an investment firm who are trying to make a buck on a business that they know nothing about. They run at least eight different businesses out of their office. Now I'm not sure about you but I know if I was running 8 different businesses I might have some problems too. I mean think about it, out of an eight hour day they're only devoting one hour to each business. That is why customer service isn't a priority after they receive their payment. They are very deceptive in their business practices not only to their customers also to their subcontractors as well. I have heard that they make their own hodgepodge asphalt mix for their driveways and that it is an inferior product. They do not buy their asphalt mix from asphalt plants as do other paving contractors. Since they do not buy their asphalt mix from an asphalt plant there is no regulating the material that gets put into it. The Asphalt doesn't holdup as good because it's not made to the industry standards!! read more

We needed the driveway redone. They came out right away and did the estimate. We were scheduled as soon the weather allowed and my paperwork, permit and deposit were received. They were very respectful of our property. They cleaned up after themselves. The driveway is beautiful. We are happy customers. read more

Kaplan did a nice job to two of our rental houses. They were reasonably priced, timely, and cleaned up after themselves. I would give them five stars, but they did forget to pave a part of the driveway. They apologized and corrected the mistake promptly. Just is a seam joint now that I would prefer not be there. The FIRST time Kaplan paved my driveway, it did not pass inspection (Fall 2015). The SECOND time they paved (Fall 2015) my driveway crumbled over the winter because they used poor quality asphalt. The THIRD time (Late Spring 2016) they paved the job was done well, but not without several rescheduling issues on Kaplan's part. As compensation for my patience and inconvenience, I was promised that the driveway would be seal coated for free in the fall. The co owner stood in my driveway and shook my hand promising to make it all right. In early October, I am told I will be scheduled in the next 2 weeks and will receive a call the night before. I finally get the call and am scheduled for NOVEMBER 10th, which just so happens to be the LAST day that they are scheduling for this year. The guy shows up to tell me that they cannot do a good job seal coating because the wind is blowing the leaves around too much. I will have to be scheduled for the spring! In the meantime I have had to reseed my lawn all along the driveway because of all the tear up from 3 pavings. So for me it is more than the worlds worst scheduling. It's a total lack of integrity or customer service. read more

They have a great warranty and work with you to make sure you get the result you want. I wish I would have read the reviews, all the people were nice but they don't communicate with each other within the business, I signed my contract in September and at the end of November I'm still having problems. I did a dbl thickness driveway because we have trucks joe the sales guy said it will last 20 years,problem number 1) We had trees removed and de stumped on the side of our old driveway but a root grew underneath joe said they'll use their bobcats to remove it, they paved over it, problem number 2) was told to have it pitched in one direction and when it was paved to the other side they put a drain system in at their expense. (to me it's an eyesore) and now was told that they couldn't do it the way I was told in the first place, whoever did the left side of the driveway it looked good, problem number 3) the right side was so crooked and not tampered down that when I emailed the pics to Brenda I got an immediate response, in the middle of November they came out again to straighten the right side it looks good now, but now they incorporated my chain link fence in with the asphalt, as my inspector said when I decide to get a new fence my driveway will have to be cut. Do yourself a favor read the reviews and save yourself lots of time and headaches, I wish it was something I could return and have another co. come out. We had to take out a loan for this and we are soooo aggregated I'm giving one star cause there is no negative ones read more

After I got a quote and singed all the paperwork and deposited 1/2 of the bill I was promised the job will get done within 2 weeks weather permitting. They showed up after 1 week to remove the old asphalt and level the gravel before laying the new asphalt. Before laying the new asphalt had to get pre-approved from the village of H E that the underlaiment is in good shape and it will hold the new asphalt. The inspection failed because we had a lot of soft spots on the underlaiment and what inspection said the driveway wasn't going to last the winter. It took about 1 1/2 to 2 weeks and so many calls for some one from the company to show up and identify the problems. They lied to me saying that the village inspector told them that they needed to remove the whole new underlaiment and start over and wanted 3000$ extra for that job before the layed the new asphalt. After checking with the village inspector my self he denied that he said to the company to start over the job but to fix only the soft spots on driveway. Another week goes by till they decided to come and fix the soft spots in the underlaiment for 900$ extra. And they made it sound like it was my fault for the soft spots. When they failed to do the job wright the first time. I had to agree for the 900$ extra charge before they did any extra work on the driveway. Finally someone showed up an added some more gravel on the soft spots, you can tell that was gravel they removed it from someone else driveway and pit it on mine. Finally the inspection past. Another week went by and every day calling till I got scheduled for the asphalt to get poured. Finally. And all this time I had to park on the street not happy at all read more

I had Kaplan rip out and put in a new driveway, plus expand it a bit. It looked great at first, but within months, the driveway developed long large cracks where they had expanded it leading me to believe that it had settled. I figured since it happened so soon, they would at least patch the cracks for me, I wasn't expecting a re-pour or anything. All of my calls were ignored so I eventually took a day off from work and showed up at their door. I finally got the patches done, but it only lasted a few months before they came back. I left it that way for another couple years until I needed some other maintenance. I thought maybe I should give them a try again and it would be OK since I'd be paying for it. They made an appointment to come out and look at it, but came on their own during the day when I wasn't home, and didn't bother to tell me. I sat around my house waiting for them for most of an evening, but they never showed. I finally got the estimate and was ready to go but had a couple questions. They never bothered to respond so I decided not to use them. They're extremely inconsiderate. I would have to agree with the person who said they have no customer service. They are very frustrating and irritating to deal. It all worked out as it forced me to try and find someone else, which I did. The other company did a good job (for 40% less!) and treated me well too. read more
