My driveway was seal coated on Aug 23. In under 3 weeks, the driveway has started to peel off. Pictures attached from Sep 12. I emailed the company and after numerous responses back and forth, they refused to provide a resolution or come fix the patch that has peeled off. Fall hasn't started and my driveway is only going to get worse in winter. Their reasoning is that I have over sealed and its my fault for regularly maintaining my driveway. In my many years of sealcoating the driveway I have never faced this problem that I now have by using this company. They did NOT trim grass before sealcoating. They painted over leaves and grass that is stuck to the driveway. They do not get sealcoating on the edge of the driveway to garage or sidewalks. Also very inconsistent on sealcoating to edge of grass. We called multiple times to talk to someone. Said they're not landscapers , but they advertise edging and they do use a leaf blower( landscaping tool). They wouldn't call back to talk about billing. Their guys did a good job in the middle of driveway. Splashed some on garage door and siding. Probably could have done a better job if they gave it another 5 minutes. Driveway Sealcoating was the worst ever! Crew was here 20 minutes for a 1275 sq ft driveway! Cracks were not filled and weeds within the cracks were painted over with Sealcoating. No edging was done and sealcoating was all over the grass. Terrible customer service. read more

Scheduling was a breeze on line. They kept me updated on the status of my service via e-mail as well as text. They were very detailed messages on what was required to do in preparation for my service. This included a rain out and setting up a new appointment. They have always been professional and personable. The service techs were also awesome. They arrived on schedule, introduced theirselves , advised me what they were going to do and immediately went to work. They took their time and did an exemplary job which included filling misc. cracks. They did so good my neighbors thought I re-paved my driveway. Kaplan/Express Sealcoat DO NOT hire this company! I hired them to sealcoat my driveway & asked that they fill the cracks before sealcoat. The "boss" very rudely said No that the cracks were "spiderveins", although many are obviously open & need filler. The helper applied sealcoat to driveway as "boss" directed. Boss then did driveway apron SLOPPY & uneven. Sent a pic to their office telling them I will NEVER use them again..their response was "good luck". We were replacing our 34 year old asphalt driveway. They were timely in coming out to talk about the job, then provide me with an estimate. The rest was up to mother nature. They were able to remove our old driveway, but then the weather decided not to cooperate, so there was a delay of a few days, but they were here today and put down the new driveway and it looks great. My driveway saga began three years ago in 2021. I booked a driveway repaving project with an expansion. First off, they showed up really late in the season (November) below freezing. They did not lay down a proper base which caused a huge section of driveway to sink. Then, it took nine months after complaining for them to show up and fix it. They cut out a huge section of driveway, put base down, and repaved it but did a horrible job blending the two sections together. Now I have a crack that has formed due to the poor job they did. What was their fix after waiting six months for a repair? A couple of guys came out with a flame thrower style tool, blasted the driveway (not the entire length but here and there), didn't bother blending it, and stated they were told the area needing repair was only 18 inches long. I spent 7k on my driveway and now it looks like crap. I am exhausted from trying to get the issue resolved. I would never recommend Kaplan to anyone else. read more

I had the driveway and front sidewalk done by Kaplan. The job itself was fine, in that the workmen who did the asphalt driveway and concrete sidewalk were good, and the job looks fine, (although we will see how it holds up after this first winter.) The men were very nice and professional. THAT SAID, the job took nearly 2 MONTHS to complete. The office people were TERRIBLE. They, specifically Meredith and Cesar, ignored phone calls, and texts. Cesar lied to us, saying he'd emailed us with scheduled dates, and Meredith claimed she'd rushed the job. We had NO DRIVEWAY for nearly 2 months, just the dug out gravel, with autumn approaching, then arrived, and winter on its way. The neighbors weren't thrilled, but happily, the police were understanding. Meanwhile, we are having to park in the street, and even in addition to the worry about the temperature falling, it would be illegal to be there when the plows came through. None of this seemed to matter to Kaplan, and we would go weeks at a time without hearing from them. Meanwhile, we'd have unseasonably warm windows of several days at a time, where the temperature was in the 60s and 70s and the sky was clear---perfect to complete the job. Mind you, the sidewalk alone was $25 a square foot! When they finally WOULD answer us, there were all sorts of excuses, including that the village had not yet completed the inspection, but when I called the village to check, it had been done. Outrageous! Then, before the driveway was done, they actually sent me the final bill! Can you imagine? Also, this was NOT a fluke. When I told the workers about the delay, they said they hear this every day from all their customers. Yes, the job looks nice, and I have nothing but good things to say about the workers themselves. However, I would NEVER, EVER, EVER use Kaplan again! They are certainly not cheap, and customers are NOT valued. At all. The office is SO BAD, it is not worth your time and trouble. Although the crew that installed the driveway was professional and courteous. I will not recommend Kaplan the reason is that the counter service and office staff are the worst I have ever seen. The scheduling is a total disaster. He forgot to call for inspection until my wife called and reminded him so the driveway took a extra 4 days. And finally after getting finished. 5 day have passed and no final inspection yet. Oops. Maybe he forgot to call again. I feel horrible for anyone that gets talked into using this company. I spent $80,000 on a high end driveway only to have it completely fall apart after a year. I asked them to fix the issue. Owner Scott Kaplan came out and told me time will fix the issue. I've been waiting for 2 years to have it resolved. The driveway has only gotten worse. I now have to engage my attorney. I have no complaints about the work this company did, 2 separate times at my house. The last job they did was almost 3 years ago, installing a new driveway, patio, and sidewalk area. The cost was $25,000. They offered me to work with Synchrony Bank allowing me monthly payments with interest free rates. I have now learned from Synchrony Bank that the information given to me by Kaplan Paving was quite different from their terms and as a result I will end up owing the bank an extra $21,000, not to mention the $25,000 that has been paid. Over the past week, I have called Kaplan 7 times and left messages with 5 different people, including sales, accounting, and dial by name. No one has called me back. I see no alternative but to call my attorney. Make sure you get every detail in writing as well as names, which I already did. Terrible customer service. We had our driveway replaced last year. The initial job was good. But a year later I have small cracks forming along the edges of my driveway. It took 6 phone calls and voicemails over the period of a month to actually talk to someone. Annette was initially helpful. They asked for photos. I sent them. Followed up by phone and email and have received no response in 5 weeks since I sent the photos. I wanted to have them seal coat my driveway once the repairs were done but I will likely take my business elsewhere. Update - A Manager, Jason, called and took responsibility for this going unresolved for so long. They offered to cover the cost of our first seal coat and take care of any warranty issues. Update 2 - 5/26/20. So although Jason offered a free seal coat, it's still not done. They couldn't get it in last season but said I would be first in line for spring. No one called - I had to schedule through their online portal and first available date was may 19. That got rained out and I did get an email with a new date of 5/23. No one showed up. Called multiple times today with no answer and their mailbox is full. This is hilariously bad service. I paid $4,000 three years ago for the removal and replacement of an asphalt driveway. I now have very large cracks in the driveway that the previous 17-year old driveway never had. After repeated attempts, mostly via Facebook messenger, I did eventually receive a callback (1 month later) that indicated the following: 1) I should have taken out the optional 3-year warranty extension at the time of installation. Shame on me as I thought this company used quality materials and that their work would last longer than 3 years. 2) I didn't use their sealcoating service each year after installation and that also negated their need to repair their inferior product and installation. When you buy a car you have the right to take it to any grange for an oil change without invalidating your warranty. 3) "They don't make asphalt like they used to?" I agree with others about terrible customer service. Why have a "Contact Us" section on your website if you're never going to return any requests? My neighbors used Superior Paving at the same time I chose Kaplan and their driveway is in perfect condition. Do your self a favor and look elsewhere. read more

I contracted Kaplan to do "Brick Maintenance--Repair and PWSTS Wet & Dry" in spring of 2021. They failed to communicate between spring and July 2021, when job was done. The workers did a poor job on half of the patio and especially at north end where repair was needed most and promised. In places it looked like they skipped a step, because the sand between the bricks looked uneven and sloppy compared to work done at the beginning of the job. By spring 2022 my patio looked worse than before Kaplan's work. I sent photos to Kaplan. I had plenty more to share! Kylie promised the job supervisor would call me. He never did, and the office never responded to my phone message or email, informing them I was being overlooked. I am very disapointed with the the response that I have received from Kaplan Paving. My Driveway was only a year old, when I noticed a very long crack. I reached out to Kaplan about the problem. They seemed very interested in rectifying the situation and scheduled a repair. Then took me off the schedule!! We rescheduled, but no one showed up!! I have made multiple calls, left multiple messages, trying to get someone, ANYONE, to repair my driveway. I wish I could give them a higher rating as the final product (resetting pavers) looks great. However, they were not easy to work with. First, you really need to read their contract carefully as it's very one-sided in their favor. I made numerous edits to avoid being legally bound to essentially anything goes. Despite explicit discussions to circumvent property damage, they did exactly that and initially denied the obvious. Then it was a battle to hold them accountable. The site supervisor's attitude was completely unacceptable and the complaint went up their corporate ladder to work out a settlement. If you choose to use Kaplan Paving, make sure that you are covered for the unexpected...... long waits, inefficient workers, extra charges, final product different than discussed and in my case, property damage. They were very expensive for what was done and should be held accountable for the quality of their services and as well as for the negligent damage they do to client's property. We have a great experience working with both Trish and Joe on our new asphalt driveway. Our village of Arlington Heights has been a little bit challenging to work with, but Joe and Trish have handled all the paperwork pieces and emailed us consistently with updates and directions for what we need to do. They are extremely helpful on the phone and Joe has been to our house at least twice to measure and design and re-design when the village of A.H. was being difficult. When I started my driveway and sidewalk project I contacted 12 different paving companies. Kaplan was the only company that sent a sales representative to meet with me. Jill (the sales representative) came out and listened to what I wanted and offered a couple of other ideas. Due to complications with the village, the project was delayed a couple of months. Jill stayed in contact to check on the status of the project. When I finally got the village's approval, Jill was notified and project got started. Just prior to finishing the project Jill and the paving, and brick paver foreman met with me to go over everything to make sure we were on the same page. Customer service is abysmal and their communication is worse. My wife and I moved into our home two years, and we have done multiple repairs around the house. Our biggest mistake as new home owners has been hiring this company to fix our driveway. We had our driveway done over two years ago and we are still dealing with this company. Part of our agreement is that they seal coat our driveway every year for 125$. The last time they came out to do this, they did not call to let us know. Not only that, they seal coated over my drain (one they installed that is faulty to begin with) causing it to clog. I called multiple times to have someone come fix the drain and no one ever did. I have never written a review good or bad on yelp before. I am doing this because I do not want someone to make the same mistake my wife and I made in hiring this company. This company is a scam!!! Scott Greengburg sent me an email threatening to trespass and "rip out" the driveway they installed. I have been suing this company for 4 years and have spent almost $60,000.00 over a $2300.00 driveway. The city of Palatine ILL was refusing to approve the installation and wanted to do a second inspection. This was about a 2 week delay. I had already paid them 1,300.00 up front leaving $1000.00 once Palatine approved the driveway. Scott went nuts and was calling almost every day making threats and telling me he didn't care if Palatine approved the driveway, he demanded payment even if Palatine didn't approve it. They did this knowing my mother was in the hospital and couldn't stop these lunatics. Over the last 4 years I have paid almost $60,000.00 over a $2,300.00 driveway. Kaplin just made an offer to pay me $3,000.00 which I rejected!!! My lawyer tried to accept the agreement without my approval, and I fired him on 7-26-23 he said he was going to go to court and officially quit, but instead of quitting he decided to get a continuance. He thinks he is going back to court on 8-08-23. My scum bag lawyer also illegally accessed my facebook account and removed the negative review I made about kaplin 4 years ago. I went to my mother's house the same day the driveway was finally approved by Palatine, only to find it sliced up and badly damaged. At that time, I had already paid them the last $1000.00 and they had received it just a few hours earlier. I booked a small patio job with them late last Fall with the expectation they wouldn't do the job till Spring. Spring sprung and out they came. They did a very good job of installing our new paver block patio. The patio is about 370 sq. ft. of slightly odd shape. Overall, they did a good job. They took reasonable care to keep from harming any more landscaping/grass than they had to to get materials to the job site. The crew was very cooperative and communication with them was appropriate and cordial. They were quite interested in delivering what the customer wanted.
