The Kansas Sampler Festival was a fun a way to explore the entire state in a few hours at one park…read more It moves locations every few years, and this year it was in Wamego, about 15 miles east of me. Eric R. and I found parking in downtown Wamego and walked to the park. Adult tickets were $5 each which is a fair price. There were maps everywhere, with different entertainers at different stages and ampitheatres. Tents were spread throughout the big park, each one highlighting a different area of the state. Inside were booths of CVBs and representatives from various cities. In the vendor/KS products booth, we met the writer of the Kansas Trail Guide book that is not even out on amazon yet. We talked to him about how he explored the whole state for hikes and trails, and we bought his book. We look forward to exploring the state for hikes and Eric R.'s cycling passion. There were some food trucks and booths from around the state. Eric R. tried BBQ from Halverson. We heard the bison burgers were great but the line was too long and we had to go back to MHK. I was intrigued by the Lindsborg tent - there is a Swedish community there a little under 2 hours from us, so we hope to visit Lindsborg soon!

We ordered popcorn for intermission over an hour prior to the start of the show, knowing that it isn't delivered until intermission. They waited until the second act was beginning to tell us they "didn't make enough" and we wouldn't be getting any. They gave us nachos and promised to comp one of the 3 orders, then charged me for it anyway. The nachos were cold and soggy when they arrived about 3 minutes left in intermission. I gave my credit card in good faith when the check was dropped early in the intermission, then had the wrong amount charged to my credit card (over double my actual total) and someone else's credit card presented to me not once but twice. It took 10-15 minutes for the mess to be sorted between the manager and server and the server spent most of that chatting and laughing with what appeared other table involved. The manager also blew off my concerns about their disorganized service and lack of communication regarding availability of the menu. My party and I were not high maintenance, or demanding. There was no obvious reason for the chaos, besides a clear lack of organization and no managerial care for customer experience.

We were all experienced bowlers so we…read morequickly noticed the ball always seemed to drift to one direction, perhaps the lane was tilted. Midway through our bowling session, two feet came out of the bottom of the lane next to the pins. The man who owned those feat must've been "fixing" something wrong with the lane. After that the pin pushing thing stopped working correctly and required fixing. This bowling alley seemed very old and outdated. I could've spent the money I used here on some cigarettes or taken it down to the pool hall.... If you want a good place to go bowling check out west ridge lanes. Some of the bowling animations on the screens made me uncomfortable as well.

The place is clean and it's obvious that people take care of this location. Service/food is garbage. I was taken aback to the disrespectful response I got when asking the food service employee any questions about anything. I asked other people here how service was and they also spoke on how rude and berating the staff was. I will never choose to come here again and will ensure friends and family avoid this place.

The Holley Museum of Military History is a five-room, self-guided museum tucked away inside of the…read moreRamada Topeka. The museum features numerous miniatures, mementos, diagrams and dioramas that are described by a recording that plays on loop throughout the day. At the entrance to the museum is a seat where a curator may have once sat, but next to it is a sign that reads "Will return in five minutes." The individual must have gotten lost years ago, because in all of my visits to the hotel I have never seen anyone sitting there. The museum is a wonderful way to pass twenty to thirty minutes if you have a break in whatever conference you are attending at the hotel. The museum takes guests through each American war chronologically. The collection was started by a Mr. Holley who built models and dioramas in his basement as a hobby. After his death others have added their memorabilia and memories to what eventually became the exhibit that is on display now. There are sections on women in the military, buffalo soldiers, Navajo wind talkers, as well as more conventional military history. If you are looking for a diversion it's a fun oddity to come across randomly as part of the hotel. If you invest the experience with any prior expectations it would be disappointing, however. I definitely enjoyed the museum and if you're in the hotel for other business I highly recommend popping in to check it out.
