The Japanese restaurant that looks like a house...You wouldn't think much of it, which is probably why I've always just walked or driven right past it in my hunt for food...but DAYMN! I only wish I'd tried it earlier so I wouldn't have wasted my meals at some of the restaurants in the area. You can bet this is now my go to whenever I eat around here. The service could've been better, but not a negative enough for me to pass up this place in the future.

We started with some Spring rolls and they were out within 5 minutes. Not bad, seemed pretty fresh and tasty. For the mains we ordered papaya salad, red duck curry, and pad Thai. The Pad Thai and red duck curry were both really nice but I have to say, the papaya salad was excellent. This is my wife's favourite dish and normally when we order it at other places I find it way too spicy. The one here was beautiful though. With just a touch of spice, it's made my night. Finished of dinner with a nice little treat of sticky rice. Yum! And away we went. Definitely stop in if you're in the area. PS - be careful if you're here when they get busy...looks like the service drops off a cliff edge.

The spring rolls and ginger stir fry was good too. There are about half a dozen tables in the restaurant which were all full but it looks like a lot of their customers get take away. There is a steady flow of people taking away, so the kitchen is flat out. I ordered Chicken Panang curry with rice, as a lunch special it was only $8.90. The curry was tasty, with some coconut milk drizzled over the top providing a sweet and salty taste to the continuous curry sauce. The sauce was nice and think, and it was garnished with lemon grass which was a nice touch. The serving was big, with the only downside being that there was probably too much sauce for the amount of rice. Want to go back and try the noodles, they are served in an oval bowl and look delicious. There was a police sergeant of some description eating lunch here - always a good sign as the local coppers always eat well no matter where you are! It's also BYO with no corkage.

Since I love Yum Chan, I do not really mind their rather casual (even abrupt) customer service in a typical Chinese restaurant. However, at this restaurant, you might be a bit surprised with their warm welcome as soon as you enter. No wonder this place was full of local customers when we had dinner last week. Some of them behaved like they were regular customers there. All of the staff were very attentive and I felt they were taking a good care of customers. Another great thing about this restaurant was their sophisticated dishes. All the dishes we had were properly cooked and I could taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients used. Great foods with a gentle service cannot go wrong, even though the price was set a bit higher than average Chinese restaurants.

Firstly the portion sizes were substantianly smaller then usual, I thought that it was just me but I waited for my wifes response first before I said anything, she brought his subject up also. Then what I saw next totally floored me, Food recycling!!! While we were eating the 2 staff members began clearing up the table next to us when I noticed that one of them picked up a plate of bean sprouts and lemons and started picking through it. He picked up one piece of lemon which looked squeezed, they said something to each other and he placed it on a dirty plate, he picked through the bean sprouts again on the plate and found 2 other pieces of lemon which were not squeezed and put them back in the sprout plate with his bare hands. He then took the plate back to the kitchen and returned to help the other man clean the rest of the table. Sorry folks, that's enough for me, time to move on.

I am left with one thing, write down a review. The food: 1. Very ordinary. Of course you will cook your own. The point is, if you go to a Korean butchery, same meat, marinade, cut that they serve. As if they bought it straight and marked up the goods. Not even a house special. 2. Very expensive drinks. We went for cola and still expensive. Why? They maybe just bought it from regular groceries on sale. Service: 1. You need to catch the staff, they are not so visible in the area. Pretending to be busy. The place: 1. Someone has to re-think on the design of the place. The obvious. Ventilation (you should see when more customer cooking all together). 2. The facade looks inviting, better think again when you look at the menu before coming inside.
