I love their work, but it is a little too dear for my lowly bureaucrat budget. I was a little apprehensive about NYFB at first because I am not a sports guy. I tipped excessively and plan to go back often.

While I hate his beard (lol) I do love the smell of this beard balm (but truth be told, I think you can just use it as a facial moisturizer, you don't actually need to have a beard, haha). The smell of the Black Cherry Tobacco beard balm is fruity and smokey. It's not overpowering and it smells masculine. The tin is $24.99 and $1 from each sale goes to a local group that helps people who are homeless. The barbershop is in an old converted house. The parking situation is not great since it's street parking and sometimes is hard to find. Review #81 (2026)

As a masculine of center…read morewoman, barbershops can be intimidating places, but this place was not only safe and welcoming, but went above and beyond. I was immediately greeted by both Chris and Noah. While I only needed a buzz cut, Noah's conversation skills were exceptional - honestly the best I've experienced at any barbershop. His curiosity and genuine engagement made the whole experience refreshing. As someone who's worked in customer service for over a decade, I can recognize when someone truly excels at connecting with people. Chris was equally impressive - he remembered my name and found moments to connect even while I was with Noah, showing he was attentively listening from afar. You can tell he's intentional about maintaining the high standards that earned this shop recognition. The haircut was okay as the tapering still needs practice. It looked "unfinished," as if we were in our way to great haircut, but then something came up, haha. It's all good, but what really stood out was the relationship-building aspect. If I lived in Ottawa, this would absolutely be my go-to spot. Even as a visitor, I'll only come here when I'm back in town. Highly recommend King's Own - it's clear why they've earned their reputation in the community!

Parking can be a little bit dificult in the Glebe. I'd walk if you can. If not, try to pair your hair cut with your grocery shopping at Whole Foods and they will validate for you.
