I'm writing this review to share my honest experience with Kanani Advisory Group. Unfortunately, it was extremely disappointing. They advertise several free services -- including a *free retirement roadmap* and a *Morningstar performance report* -- but none of these promises were fulfilled. Instead, every interaction felt like a push to collect more of my personal information rather than providing any actual value. Over multiple scheduled calls and meetings, they repeatedly asked for additional documents such as my brokerage account statements, IRA information, and even my date of birth, all with the promise that they would produce a Morningstar report. Despite giving them everything they requested, they never delivered **any** report or useful analysis. When I asked about the "free retirement roadmap" they promote, they simply told me it was "too early" for that -- even after several conversations and after I tried to engage with them as a serious prospective client. It became clear that their main goal was to gather personal information and convert me into a client **before** offering any of the services they advertise. No transparency, no follow-through, and no deliverables. I genuinely approached them with the intention of hiring them as my financial advisors, but their lack of professionalism and failure to keep their promises made me lose trust in their process. HEARTBROKEN OLD WOMAN Mr. Kanani: Six years ago, after my divorce, and in order to establish financial independence, I contacted you in order to use your experience in investing the little savings I had. You accepted my business, and added that you would assist me as you would your sister. You also added that you would invest my fund in a portfolio, the interest of which would allow me to use its interest on monthly basis, and it would ease my financial condition. At the end of the first year, I received a statement from the financial institution where you had invested my savings, which showed a monthly charge of $100. Instead of apologizing for a bad investment, you responded that you could invest my funds in a different portfolio, however I had to pay you again for your services. I had to call the investing company myself to prevent them from charging my account each month. After six years, the balance of my funds in this account is less than what I originally invested six years ago. I asked the representatives of that investing company as to what they predicted my balance would be at the end of the ten years, and they responded that it would equal the amount I originally invested. Mr. Kanani; I trusted you as a countryman, especially when you mentioned that you would treat me as your sister. Now, whether you do not have a sister or you have one but you don't like her. You abused my trust. It seems to me that you are no different from male chauvinist Mullas who abuse women. It also seems to me that your higher commission was the primary reason for such a bad investment. As I have not done any wrong to you, I am amazed that you can abuse your elderly compatriot in such a way. It is shameful. I was looking for a place to invest my money and seek professional financial advice when I found Mr. Kanani's firm. Unfortunately, the outcome was different from my expectations and financial goals. Long story short, without much detail: he (verbally) promised me a minimum of 2%- maximum 6% interest rate. However, NEITHER was the outcome. After a year my money virtually remained unchanged despite his promise. I understand the state of economy. As you can imagine, I was confused as I had entrusted Mr. Kanani. His information needed to be corrected and more accurate. There was no transparency and honesty in this case. I am deeply disappointed in the time and financial sacrifices/loss I have experienced. He has always been a straight shooter. when he moved to California, he offered us the opportunity to choose another advisor. I don't recommend investing with this firm. Claims to act in the best interest of the client as a fiduciary. This is deceiving esp. since the firm collects the sales commission upfront for each investment. I asked for clarification for one of the investments multiple times, however, never received written answers. Was originally told that the investment (a REIT) will be sold within 2 years. On a recent phone call I am now told that it will take 5 to 7 years. In the mean time, the value of the investment keeps going down even though the market is clearly moving upwards. I understand that investments always come with risks, however, the least I expect from an adviser is to provide clarification when requested. read more
