I caught a bargain at lunch by stopping by Kan. It is a relatively new high end sushi spot in Sao Paulo voted best sushi by the local Veja magazine.
Reservations are required as there are few seats.
Our English speaking group got along fine once a Portuguese speaking friend made the reservation by phone.
There is no website so calling is the only way to go.
Lunch will run you about 25 real with 3 options - a sushi plate of 8 or 11 pieces, a charashi bowl of rice with fish on top, and sashimi plate. All are served with a delicate clam soup to finish the meal.
I got the sushi and ask for a bit more (11 pieces). It was as fresh as I have ever had and the shrimp and octopus where especially surprising in texture and taste.
I think the charashi is the way to go for a hardy lunch in the future.
In the evening you can only order the chef's tasting menu. A 7 course series of shush bits that is supposedly as good as Tokyo...whatever that means. It will run you 100-125 real. read more
