Another funny one. I kind of remember a great Thai over the harbour, but whether covid killed it or I remembered it greater than it was, we ended up here.
My dad's favourite food is thai, so I've eaten a lot of it over the years, so I potentially come with higher expectations than most, but I was also convinced by the high scoring Google reviews.
We sat, tsingtao and 7up, and a high pitched buzzing thag only stopped if the kitchen door was open. We had a sharing starter, which was nice apart from the spring rolls, which were not worth the scald, but I'm always over eager and never learn with fried food! The fishcakes were nice, but not as nice as the ones we had had the night before. I'd say this was a good range, but a bit over priced at £13.90 for the two of us.
Our mains, I had scallop pad cha- the sauce was lovely, but the scallops were hugely overcooked and rubbery, and I know scallops are expensive (although these smaller ones, I think they looked like frozen patagonian ones, which are about the size of a ten pence coin, are much cheaper) I did feel like I'd been shafted out of £18.95! The coconut rice was good, and the massman curry was okay, but not the best I've had. Altogether the meal was £64.80, which is fairly standard these days, and we were given a complimentary baileys, which was kind and festive, but compared to our absolutely epic meal at seaview the night before, which at 3 courses, plus a "snack" and wine, I did feel a little short changed.
However, we may have caught them on a bad night, hence 3 stars rather than 2, although I did feel it was a 2 star experience we had on this occasion.
Also worth noting, they're currently cash only, which feels the opposite of everybody else currently! read more
