The Center became one of the most prominent institutions in NYC, for the training of LCSWS, PHDs in the study of Psychotherapy. He established a sense of community and collegiality among the collective. It changed the way we practiced, it elevated ethics and values of the profession. I treasure those whom I became acquainted with while studying back at the center in 1984, after graduating Columbia 1983.

As someone who suffers from ADD/ADHD (what is it even technically called?), when you're met with roadblock after roadblock on the course to treatment you eventually just... stop looking. That's actually what happened to me. A professor of mine noticed that some symptoms I was exhibiting matched that of a fellow student who also struggled in the class. He suggested I seek a diagnosis as it could help provide me the necessary resources in college to overcome something I was up against. Growing up in the 90s, I, like many others my age, was told that we were just lazy, not trying hard enough, and that ADD/ADHD wasn't real and eventually I believed it. Now, a teacher of about the same age (I'm back in school thanks to the panny), is suggesting I seek treatment. So I started looking. I looked for months. Nobody had availability. I actually was about to give up when my partner came found Modern Integrative Psychiatry on Yelp. Normally they're crazy booked out, but thanks to whatever circumstance, I was able to secure an appointment with PMHNP Ashley Winn. I've been seeing her for around 6 or 7 months now and honestly it was the best decision I ever made. She makes seeking treatment painless and effortless. We meet remotely so even though I no longer live in the best city in the universe, I'm able to see her from campus, my car, or wherever I have access to the internet. It's been a great experience and I can't recommend this office or Ms. Winn enough. For those, like me, who may have suffered for too long without seeking treatment due to the stigma: give it a shot. You'll be happy that you did.

For example, I was running low on medications and my prescriptions from the last appointment did not get processed; the receptionists helped to get in contact with Dr. B and arrange my prescription that day. That brings me to Dr B. Himself. Cheerful, jubilant, and thoughtful. His words are positive and encouraging and I can tell he takes my concerns seriously. He has helped me choose a plan of action that has been so far effective. I'm sure the other practitioners are equally as receptive and kind.

The billing never makes sense and fluctuates, one day they'll call you to ask about the $300 you owe them even though you already paid your $20 copay. Then the charge disappears when you push back on it. At my last appointment Dr. Sharief said it he would send my medication to a pharmacy in the state I was moving to. Three weeks later he refuses to fill my last perscripion because I'm out of state and is insisting I need to schedule another apointment. So I paid for 4 appointments with the Dr. Sharief but only got 3 perscriptions. Now I'm left scrambling to find a new dr. and will 100% run out of meds before I get in to see one. Extremely disappointing and completely unacceptable way to treat patients that have been with the practice for years.

If any problems arose, I could call the Syosset office, speak to someone there, and the problems would be resolved quickly. However, they seem to have changed their system such that no one answers at the actual office anymore, and all calls get re-directed to a call center, which leaves messages for somebody else to get back to you within 24 business hours. The quality of these calls is poor, with calls routinely dropping on their end. There is also something strange going on with their appointment scheduling, as I have not been able to see James O'Shea for the past two visits, due to errors on their end. The first time, someone scheduled my appointment on a day that he does not work - 2:15pm on a Friday. The call center said they would re-schedule my appointment for the next free day he had, which was today (the following Wednesday at 11:30am). My appointment time rolls around and I haven't received any email or text message containing the URL to the TeleHealth visit, so I call the Syosset office. No one picks up the phone, and I get re-directed to the call center. I explain my situation to the woman who answers, and she tells me that I had been scheduled for a therapist I have never even met or spoken with before named Hasan Ali. I explain that I have no idea who that is and that I was only seeing James O'Shea for medication management, but she just keeps reading whatever is on the computer screen in front of her. Eventually I was able to make another appointment with James O'Shea, this time for next Monday - but honestly at this point I'm just expecting more problems. This new system is clearly not working for them and I might have to seek out a new company for medication management.

For years I suffered from major depression. A depression that took away relationships, work,…read morefriends, a marriage, and a considerable toll on my physical health. While regular therapy and medication helped to keep my head above water, I was tired of the constant drowning feeling, that hopeless feeling. I started to research TMS, and quickly found TMS Long Island Corp. Let's start with the practice...The staff and doctors at this practice are nothing short of amazing. From every step of the way, I felt like I was a part of their family and was very well taken care of. Their office manager, Marianne, took care of scheduling, making arraignments, and explaining the process while her counter-partner, also named Marianne, took care of the billing and insurance pre-auths. Dr Kristin jumped in for an initial evaluation and went over my goals, expectations, and pro/cons of the treatment. At no point did I feel pressured by the practice to move forward, and Dr Kristin encouraged me to take some time to think if I wanted to move forward. I always felt that the care of the patient was their number one priority rather than pushing you into something just to collect money as some do. After I decided to move forward, Dr. Stephen took me in for a further consult, the initial mapping, and my first TMS session. He further went over expectations and continued to check in throughout the treatment to see how I was feeling personally, and not just relying on the scores in my reports. As far as the TMS sessions...The sessions themselves were pretty quick but did take a considerable time commitment. 30 mins a day, 5 days a week, for 7 weeks sounds almost impossible to do as a busy, working, single father, but it was worth every second. It was like going to the gym to work out your brain. Everyone reacts differently to it, but I did not find TMS to be painful or troublesome at all. It was similar to someone lightly tapping on your head with a slight headache. The techs, Josephine and Lydia, were amazing also. They made me feel so welcome, warm, and caring like I was part of their family. They made sure I was always comfortable, always checking on my progress, and would watch the Headspace programs on Netflix that were on during the treatment with me. They always commented how it would put them in such a great mood. I'm so glad, I took the path of TMS with TMS Long Island Corp. Although, not everyone has the same results, and improvement in mental health can be sometimes a personal feeling...but for me, my depression symptoms have completely disappeared, I am happy, healthy, energetic, and have a healthy outlook on life again. I am no longer drowning, I no longer feel like there isn't hope. I simply can't recommend TMS Long Island Corp. enough to go on your TMS journey with. For anyone struggling with these feelings or researching TMS, there is help, there is hope, TMS as a treatment can help, and I am living proof of that! The doctors and staff at TMS Long Island Corp. have certainly changed and saved my life, and I am forever grateful!
